If that goes to plan, everything should move forward on the sale. He was one of the most promising forwards in football - one who seemingly had it all. He's quick, strong, happy to run with the ball, can get on the end of chances consistently and has all the energy you'd want in a modern forward. If he could fix his finishing to find the net consistently, you'd be looking at one of the world's best. That was the scenario when Liverpool signed him in 2022. The problem is that three years later, Nunez is still all of those things and the scenario is pretty much identical.

Rape and sexual assault: Villarreal responds after signing Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey In response to criticism following the signing of Thomas Partey, Villarreal breaks its silence to offer an explanation. The signing of Thomas Partey by Villarreal this Thursday has not received unanimous support in Spain. While awaiting trial for rape and sexual assault charges, the Ghanaian midfielder joined Villarreal as a free agent. Even though the Spanish club saw the deal through to completion, it was necessary to address the situation to silence the critics. "The club is aware that the player is involved in legal proceedings in England," the statement read. "The player vigorously proclaims his innocence and denies all accusations made against him. The club respects the presumption of innocence as a fundamental principle and awaits the court's decision, which will clarify the facts of which he is accused.", Villarreal announced.

Barcelona fans question club's decision on new captain
Droves of supporters of La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday called into question the club's decision-making. This comes after the new captain in Hansi Flick's squad was officially unveiled. The subject of the captaincy situation in Catalunya's capital has of course dominated the headlines across all of Spain for several days now. This comes after widespread reports were forthcoming, confirming that the Camp Nou brass were giving real consideration to stripping the under-fire Marc-André ter Stegen of his armband. In turn, it came as little surprise when an announcement regarding precisely as much was forthcoming on Thursday afternoon. As per a statement across Barcelona's website and social media platforms: 'FC Barcelona hereby announces that, following the disciplinary proceedings opened against player Marc-André ter Stegen, and until this matter is definitively resolved, the club, by mutual agreement with the Sporting Direction and the coaching staff, has decided to temporarily withdraw his role as first-team captain.' Also confirmed as part of the Blaugrana's statement was the fact that, for the time being at least, Ronald Araújo will take over captaincy duties in Hansi Flick's squad. Safe to say, however, that news of as much has not exactly gone down well with many of a Barca persuasion… With Araújo not considered first-choice at present, and fresh off something of a disappointing individual campaign in 2024/25, many have been quick to call into question the call for him to take up such an important role in the Camp Nou dressing room.
