‘Tremendous accomplishment;' Part of busy interstate reopens after Ohio River bridge fire

The southbound lanes of Interstate 471 approaching the Daniel Carter Bridge reopened Sunday night, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
As originally reported by News Center 7, the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge sustained 'significant damage on the Ohio approach,' Matt Bruning, ODOT spokesperson, said on Nov. 1.

The opening came exactly 100 days after a fire damaged the roadway.
'Reopening southbound access to this bridge in just over three months is a tremendous accomplishment,' said Governor DeWine on Friday. 'The closure of these lanes wasn't only an inconvenience, but also a disruption to the supply chain. I applaud our ODOT team and their partners for working hard to finish the project ahead of schedule.'
ODOT, Great Lakes Construction, and at least two dozen sub-contractors worked to design both the bridge's demolition and reconstruction.
Our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati reports that crews put the finishing touches on the bridges.
This included 'grinding and grooving the newly cured concrete deck and some final welding below the expansion seal,' WCPO said.
ODOT crews took down barricades, signs, and cones from the closure on Sunday. They also painted the line markings for the interstate.

Major construction project on I-90 starts Monday
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – A years-long rehabilitation project to completely re-do a portion of Interstate 90 west of Cleveland will begin on Monday. A stretch between Hilliard and West Boulevards near Rocky River and Lakewood will undergo a complete overhaul of the pavement from the ground up, according to ODOT. On Monday, contractors will begin adding temporary pavement to be able to divert traffic. By Friday, both the eastbound and westbound lanes will be shifted toward the outer shoulders. That new traffic pattern will stick around until next spring, Brent Kovacs said. Kovacs, the public information officer for ODOT's 12th district, added that this portion of the road was put in in the 1960s and 70s. 'The thing motorists may not understand is that the surface may look smooth that they drive on, but it's really the base material that is starting to fail and that we need to replace,' he said. 'It has well exceeded its lifespan, and once this project is done, it'll be decades and decades until we have to come back and do something here.' Traffic alert: I-5 shut down south of Goshen due to car crash
I-5 was closed in both directions south of Goshen due to a car crash on July 29, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation. The closure was about 2 miles south of the Oregon 58 interchange near Goshen at milepost 186. ODOT officials said the closure could last several hours.
