Mumbra train accident toll five as 52-year-old succumbs to injuries after 10 days

More, a Vasind resident on the Kalyan-Kasara route, worked as a peon at a school in Kalwa for 32 years. He was travelling on the Kasara-CSMT local and reportedly was near the footboard in order to alight at the next station, Thane, when the accident occurred.
He was one of the eight passengers who fell off the train at Mumbra station, an incident that left four dead and four injured at the time. Six others suffered injuries but they either stayed on board or were saved by co-passengers.
The trains were reportedly moving at 75kmph to 80 kmph on a bend near platforms 3 and 4.
More and another passenger sustained serious head injuries and were first taken to CSMH hospital in Kalwa before being shifted to a private hospital. More remained in the ICU for 10 days in critical condition before passing away. He is survived by his wife Bharati, an anganwadi sevika, and two children, Ashish and Asavari, both students.
Neighbours in Vasind's Siddharth Nagar complex remember him as jovial and helpful.
Activists criticised the railway administration for neglecting local train services beyond Kalyan towards Kasara and Karjat, which mostly run at longer intervals — insufficient for the growing population.
"We demand shuttle services from these suburbs to Kalyan or Thane to ease crowding," said railway activist Rajesh Ghangav.

"Also, Diva halts for Kasara-Karjat and Khopoli trains should be removed and replaced with services starting from Kalyan, Titwala, or Ambernath."
More's neighbour and passenger activist Sachin Ghegade questioned delays in medical aid, noting More was injured around 9.15 am but treatment started only after admission to the private hospital. "He was first taken 7 km to Kalwa hospital, then another 4 km to the private hospital, losing valuable time," he said.
The railway police were in the process of filing an accidental death report, said officials.

Youth critically injured in koyta attack
A group of youth allegedly attacked a young man with koyta (machete) near Vinayak Mitra Mandal, Nighojkar Mangal Karyala, on Kumthekar Road in Narayan Peth area at around 8.45pm on Monday. While govt appears to backtrack, BMC seeks police cover at GPO
Mumbai: While the govt appears to be backtracking on the issue of feeding pigeons in public places, BMC teams continue to crack down on the practice and has, in fact, broadened its effort to tighten the vigil at more spots. The BMC's A ward has written to the local police station seeking assistance in taking action against individuals feeding pigeons near the Kabutarkhana outside CSMT's GPO — another of the city's most prominent pigeon-feeding spots. Assistant municipal commissioner Jaydip More said while they do not plan to cover up the Kabutarkhana near GPO, they have sought police assistance to take action against those throwing feed at the spot. Civic officials said the site continues to draw large numbers daily, leading to sanitation issues and health concerns from prolonged exposure to pigeon droppings. More said the BMC has stationed civic staff to keep a watch and enforce the court's directives. "But enforcement alone is not proving sufficient, which is why we've sought police support," said More. TCS breaks silence on viral pic of employee sleeping outside Pune office due to 'no money'
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said that the company is in touch with an employee who was filmed sleeping outside its Pune office as a form of protest. Pictures of the employee sleeping on a sidewalk had been widely shared on social media earlier this week. TCS has responded to viral pics that show an employee camping outside the company's Pune office.(Instagram/@beingpunekarofficial) The employee, Sourabh More, claimed that TCS had not paid his salary for months. In a handwritten letter that was photographed next to him on the sidewalk, the employee wrote: 'I have informed HR I don't have money and will be forced to sleep and live outside TCS on footpath.' In a statement shared with TCS said that the employee's payroll was suspended as he took unauthorized absence from work. The IT services company said that he has since been provided with accommodation and is no longer camping outside the office. What the TCS employee claimed More, who worked at the TCS Pune office, claimed in his letter that the company had been withholding his salary. He said that he had 'reported back to TCS office' at Sahyadri Park Pune on 29th July 2025, but his ID was not active on Ultimatix and TCS systems. More further claimed that he had met with the human resources department which had assured him that his salary would be paid, but that had not happened. TCS responds to allegations In a statement to TCS said that the employee's payroll had been suspended in accordance with standard procedure after he was absent from work without authorization. "This is a case of unauthorized absence where the employee has been absent from office. In accordance with standard procedure, payroll was suspended during this period. The employee has now reported back and requested reinstatement. We have provided him accommodation for now and are supporting him in addressing his situation in a fair and constructive manner,' a spokesperson for TCS told The employee is no longer camping outside the office.
