Josele Ballester declines Korn Ferry Tour membership via PGA Tour U
Josele Ballester won't be playing the Korn Ferry Tour this summer.
The recent Arizona State grad, who recently capped his college career with a T-4 finish at the NCAA Championship and a quarterfinal exit by the Sun Devils, officially declined the KFT membership he received as the No. 3 finisher in the PGA Tour University rankings, GolfChannel.com has learned.
With Ballester declining membership, several PGA Tour U grads improved their status. Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon was bumped to fifth, which comes with a full KFT card and now an exemption into final stage of PGA Tour Q-School this December. LSU's Algot Kleen moves to No. 10, now receiving full KFT membership in addition to his exemption into second stage of Q-School. Ole Miss' Kye Meeks goes from nothing to No. 25 and full PGA Tour Americas status.
Auburn's Brendan Valdes, Florida's Ian Gilligan, Vanderbilt's Jackson Van Paris, Arizona State's Preston Summerhays, Louisville's Sebastian Moss and UCLA teammates Omar Morales and Pablo Ereno are the other newly minted KFT members from this PGA Tour U class.
North Carolina's David Ford won the PGA Tour U points list this season – Ballester was in the running for this until Ford won three straight events in the spring – to earn his PGA Tour card for the next season and a half. He made his pro debut two weeks ago at Colonial and will join Gordon Sargent and Luke Clanton, two PGA Tour U Accelerated achievers, in this week's field at the RBC Canadian Open. Auburn's Jackson Koivun also has earned 20 points through Accelerated, though he's returning for his junior year.

The vibes surrounding the Auburn Tigers ahead of this weekend's super regional are high. From fan support to national media, many are singing the Tigers' praises after the program made a turn from missing the postseason last year to being two wins away from its third College World Series appearance since 2019. Among those that are aboard the Auburn hype train are college coaches around the country. Select coaches, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their thoughts on the Tigers with D1Baseball ahead of this weekend's Super Regionals. One coach spoke on the team's chemistry and the pitching staff's ability to mix pitches to their advantage. 'Auburn is a connected team. Their entire team, their dugout, they are one connected unit. Pitching-wise, they throw a ton of strikes and they can mix both ahead in the count and behind in the count.' Another coach complimented the team's mix of older, mature players and young studs who are contributing at a high level early in their career. One particular Auburn infielder caught the attention of one coach, who credited him for being a hard out. 'They have the perfect mix of older and just aggressive, not scared freshmen. Just super talented. (Eric) Snow gives them good at-bats. I feel like the guy never swings and misses.' Auburn's game one starter, Sam Dutton, has become one of the SEC's top arms since transferring to Auburn last offseason. After struggling to find a place within LSU's rotation, he became Auburn's Friday night ace and has produced quality numbers on the mound: 3.84 ERA with 92 strikeouts with an OBA of .336 in 82 innings with a 7-3 record. One coach broke down what makes him a special arm and how an "early outing" in a game brought a sigh of relief. '(Samuel Dutton) is a mix artist. He's a pitcher. He's going to throw a bunch of different pitches at you in all different counts. You can't just sit on one pitch with him. It cannot happen. He threw versus us in a short stint, and literally, we weren't even close. And then they didn't put him back out there and I'm like 'thank God they took him out.' He was electric. He was phenomenal. He carved us up about as bad as anybody.' Auburn baseball will look to keep its hot streak going this weekend against Coastal Carolina in the Auburn Super Regional. Ex-Auburn tight end Sal Cannella earns postseason nod from UFL Cannella had a great season in Arlington, which led him to receive an all-league honor. Earlier this week the United Football League announced their All-UFL Team that featured a former Auburn Tiger. Arlington Renegades tight end Sal Cannella was named to the team after the productive season. The team was selected by executives, coaches, and broadcasters. It is the second time he has been awarded an honor like this one. In 2022, he was named to the All-USFL Team when he played for the New Orleans Breakers. Cannella finished sixth in the UFL with 474 yards and one touchdown. He was also second in the league with 44 receptions. The Renegades ended their season on Sunday with a 23-6 win over the San Antonio Brahmas. They ended the season with a 5-5 record and missed the playoffs. Canella had five receptions for 86 yards in the finale. Cannella played for the Auburn Tigers from 2017 to 2019 after transferring from Scottsdale Community College. During his time at Auburn, he caught 25 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns. He was impressive when he had the ball. His head coach was Gus Malzahn, who was not known to feature tight ends often in the passing game. He scored a touchdown for Auburn in the 2019 Iron Bowl. That was a game the Tigers won 48-45. After leaving the Tigers, Cannella bounced around leagues and teams. He has spent time on the practice squads or off-season rosters for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has played for Arlington since the 2023 XFL season before the merger with the USFL. The Renegades won the XFL Championship in 2023. He led the UFL in receiving touchdowns in 2024 with six.
