'I thought Miley might have been selected ahead of Willock'

BBC News01-05-2025

BBC Radio Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck says he was surprised Joe Willock started ahead of Lewis Miley on Saturday.Joelinton was not named in the squad against Ipswich, and it has been reported he could miss the rest of the season through a knee injury. With four games left to play, his absence could be a huge blow for Newcastle in their pursuit of Champions League football. On who should replace Joelinton, Raisbeck said: "I thought Lewis Miley might have been selected on Saturday against Ipswich. I'm not questioning the decision, but he's so highly rated and I think we all want to see more of him. "I'm a big fan of Willock. We all want to see him get back to the level he was at two years ago when Newcastle got in the Champions League because he was terrific on the left side, going into the forward line. Because of injuries he's had a tough couple of years and hasn't really been able to get to that level again, which is a real shame. "Willock will always be a goal threat, but could Miley help Newcastle in possession against Brighton?"Sean Longstaff's last Premier League start was in December against Brentford. He's not a first-choice player anymore."Listen to the full clip on BBC SoundsWho would you select in midfield? Make your choice
