India Extends Ban On Pak Aircraft From Entering Airspace Till August 23

NDTV22-07-2025
New Delhi:
India on Tuesday extended the ban on Pakistani aircraft from entering the domestic airspace till August 23.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said, in a post on X, "Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting Pakistani aircraft from entering Indian airspace has been officially extended until 23rd August 2025."
"This extension reflects continued strategic considerations and is in line with prevailing security protocols. Stay tuned for further updates," the minister informed.
This action followed Pakistan's earlier decision to bar Indian flights from its airspace.
Pakistan has extended the closure of its airspace for flights operated by Indian airlines by another month, till August 24, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said last week. The ban will remain in place till August 24 at 5:19 am (India time), the PAA said.
Meanwhile, NOTAM has been issued for a large-scale Indian Air Force (IAF) exercise scheduled in Rajasthan along the India-Pakistan border for July 23-25.
The Indian Air Force is set to carry out a major military exercise in Rajasthan, covering areas from Barmer to Jodhpur.
The region witnessed Pakistani drone and missile intrusions during Operation Sindoor, where Pakistan launched several drone attacks targeting Rajasthan's Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar districts.
A NOTAM is issued when a specific airspace needs to be cleared of civilian air traffic. Similar notices were issued during previous tensions with Pakistan to ensure that no passenger aircraft would be caught in the middle of potential aerial operations. It helps prevent civilian casualties by keeping commercial aircraft away from zones of military activity.
NOTAM was issued against the backdrop of India's 'Operation Sindoor', which was launched on May 7, in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam, where Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 innocent people.

Trump says open to negotiations to India, but also links tariff ‘penalty' to BRICS membership

Following his announcement of a 25% tariff rate on India plus an unspecified 'penalty' tariff for India purchasing Russian energy and arms, U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration was still negotiating the final tariff rate with India, while at the same time linking India's membership to the BRICS group of countries as another reason for the penalty. 'Well, we're negotiating right now,' Mr Trump told a reporter who had asked what the additional penalty for 'support to Russia' would be. 'There's also BRICS. You know they have BRICS, which is basically a group of countries that are anti The United States, and India is a member of that, if you can believe it,' Mr Trump said. 'It's an attack on the dollar, and we're not going to let anybody attack the dollar. So it's partially BRICS, and it's partially the trade... this trade situation... it's a deficit, we had a tremendous deficit,' he added. India and the U.S. are in the process of negotiating a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), a process that was launched in February during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the White House. On April 2, Mr Trump announced a 'reciprocal tariff' schedule for America's trade partners — with a 26% rate for India. This was put on hold pending the agreement of a 'mini trade deal' initially due to be announced in early July. On Wednesday, Mr Trump said that the Prime Minister was a friend of his, but that India did not do much business with the U.S. India sold a lot to the U.S., but did not buy from the U.S., Mr Trump said, blaming high Indian tariffs for this and saying there were among the highest in the world. The U.S. is India's largest trade partner and India had a trade surplus of $41.18 billion in the last fiscal year, as per government data. Mr Trump is known not to like trade deficits the U.S. runs with other countries and has based tariffs on the magnitude of these deficits. 'Now they're willing to cut it very substantially, but we'll see what happens. We're talking to India now we'll see what happens. It doesn't matter too much whether we have a deal or whether we charge them a certain tariff, but you'll know at the end of this week,' Mr Trump said. The President said August 1 (Friday) was going to be a very big day for the U.S., because money was going to 'pour into' the country in an unprecedented way. Asked again if he was open to negotiations with India on the tariff front, Mr Trump said he was.

'Maybe they'll be selling oil to India some day': US, Pakistan strike 'massive reserves' deal; Donald Trump hints at future exports

US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that the US had struck a deal with Pakistan to develop "massive oil reserves", further hinting at exports of the same to India. This comes after Trump slapped 25% tariff rates on India and warned of additional penalties for the country's continued trade with Russia for arms and crude oil. "We have just concluded a Deal with the Country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive Oil Reserves," he said in a post on TruthSocial. "We are in the process of choosing the Oil Company that will lead this Partnership. Who knows, maybe they'll be selling Oil to India some day!" he added. Earlier, Trump said that the US was in trade negotiations with India, noting that India's Brics membership was an important consideration. He mentioned that India was ready to make significant tariff reductions and hinted that more details would be revealed by the end of the week. "We are negotiating right now and it's also BRICS. Since February 2022, Indian refiners have been snapping up discounted Russian oil, taking advantage of lower prices as many global buyers avoided Russian crude due to Western sanctions following the Ukraine invasion. Russia now supplies about a third of India's oil imports, a sharp rise from under 1% before the conflict. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
