H M Sultan Haitham presides over Royal Horse Race Festival
Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik presided over the Royal Horse Race Festival showcasing Oman's rich equestrian heritage at Madinat al Adiyat Race Course in Seeb on Tuesday.
The event began with a grand procession. Royal Camel Corps accompanied His Majesty the Sultan's entourage to the gates of Madinat al Adiyat Race Course, followed by Royal Cavalry and Royal Guard of Oman escorting the procession to the main venue. Upon His Majesty's arrival, he was received by senior officials, including Nasr bin Hamoud al Kindi, Secretary-General of Royal Court Affairs, Hilal bin Mohammed al Wa'eli, Head of Horse, Camel, Farms and Garden Affairs at Royal Court Affairs, and Dr Sarhan bin Salem al Zaidi, Director General of Royal Cavalry.
The festival commenced with a ceremonial performance of the Royal Anthem and a series of captivating cultural presentations, including traditional Omani folk arts such as Al Nadba, Hambal al Khail, Qasafi al Razha and Muharrab al Khail. Dancing horses and Razfah camels added to the vibrant display.
Five races were conducted in the festival. Royal Cavalry owned 'Soko' emerged winner in the prestigious His Majesty the Sultan's Horse Racing Cup competed over a distance of 2,000m. Sayyid Saud bin Harib al Said's 'RB Blast Off' secured second place, while Sunny Du Loup, also owned by Royal Cavalry, claimed third.
The event featured stunning equestrian performances, including peg-picking, archery, sleigh skills and show jumping by male and female riders of Royal Cavalry.
The Al Muriyat Race was dedicated to female riders from Royal Cavalry covering a distance of 1,100m. It was won by 'Atheer', ridden by Ma'ather bint Saeed al Shamakhiya. The second and third places went to 'Al Tariq' and 'Al Mouna', ridden by Asmahan bint Jumaa al Balushi and Hiba bint Salem al Rahbi, respectively.
In the Al Mughirat Race for Purebred Arabian Horses over a distance of 1,100m, 'Amusylah', owned by Royal Cavalry, secured first place, followed by 'Al Araiq' and 'RB Sdeik'.
The 1,600m Qadihat Race saw 'Muthabir' of Royal Cavalry claim victory. Sayyid Saud bin Hareb al Said's 'RB Kinsman' came second, while 'RB Yas Man', owned by Sayyid Shihab bin Hareb al Said, finished third.
In the Safinat Race for Purebred Arabian Horses over 1,600m, 'Jethjath', owned by Abdullah bin Ali al Maamari, won. 'Al Grain' and 'RB Free Bird' secured second and third places.
The festival included performances by school students and children with hearing disabilities and Down's syndrome, who presented a touching tribute to His Majesty the Sultan. Special displays featured Royal Cavalry's prowess in horseback relay, camel carriages and basketball on horseback.
A magnificent parade formed the number 11 to symbolise the date of His Majesty's assumption of power, alongside a formation of 'Haitham' and '2020'. The festival concluded with participants performing Omani al Azi art, expressing loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan.
His Majesty presented trophies to the winners and accepted a commemorative gift bringing the festivities to a close as the Royal Anthem played.

Omani pavilion wins award at London Design Biennale
Muscat – Oman's pavilion – titled 'Memory Grid' – has won the Best Design Award at the opening of the London Design Biennale 2025 last week. The pavilion presents these traditional forms as metaphors for protecting what is valued, both in the past and present. In a modern context, the installation proposes that data is the new essential resource – requiring safeguarding much like water once did. Through the immersive experience, visitors are encouraged to reflect on how heritage, knowledge and identity are passed through generations. The project represents how traditional symbols can guide modern questions about preservation. The win at the biennale highlights Oman's increasing engagement with contemporary art and design on a global stage. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth said the pavilion represents the strategic direction to elevate creative output by young Omanis to international platforms.

Al Harthy awaits for the '24 Hours of Le Mans' race
Global motorsport's greatest and most challenging race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the famous Circuit de la Sarthe in France, is mere days away for Oman's Ahmad al Harthy who intends to mount a major bid for silverware with team-mates Valentino Rossi and Kelvin van der Linde. Marking the halfway stage of the FIA World Endurance Championship season, round four of the 2025 campaign, this year's visit to Le Mans — the race begins on Saturday, June 14 — will be Al Harthy's third attempt at the endurance racing classic where he is a past podium finisher. Memorably, of course, he made history on his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut back in 2023 when racing to a sensational second place result in the then GTE Am class — success which he happily dedicated to his Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Now competing in LMGT3, the successor to GTE, the Omani's second season with Team WRT in the No.46 BMW M4 LMGT3 has been impacted by some misfortune but there has been celebration as well thanks to a fantastic second place — a mere 0.3 seconds shy of victory — at Imola in Italy in April. Climbing to sixth in the LMGT3 standings at that point, having had to settle for 11th place during the season-opening event at Lusail in Qatar, a podium bid last time out at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium ultimately became ninth due to a pit-lane speed limiter glitch which resulted in a luckless penalty. While there have been frustrations with some of the misfortune, the overall pace and performance across qualifying and race conditions from the Team WRT entry has been outstanding and Al Harthy himself has been extremely satisfied with the level of his own personal performance thus far. Supported as always by OQ Group, Sohar International, Omantel, Oman LNG, BMW Oman, Oman Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), and Experience Oman, Al Harthy is very much looking forward to welcoming plenty of key partners to the 93rd staging of the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this week. This year's race entry features a combined total of 62 cars across the Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGT3 classes, with 24 in LMGT3 alone — the biggest class of the three. The No.46 BMW LMGT3 will be battling competition from the likes of Aston Martin, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.
