Mario Bautista unfazed Patchy Mix's pre-UFC 316 hype, trash talk: 'Words mean nothing'

Mario Bautista unfazed Patchy Mix's pre-UFC 316 hype, trash talk: 'Words mean nothing' Mario Bautista remained confident amid Patchy Mix's hype pre UFC 316. Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Mario Bautista post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Mario Bautista spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Patchy Mix. NEWARK, N.J. – A lot was said in the lead-up to Mario Bautista's clash against former Bellator champion Patchy Mix, and most of it was not favorable for Bautista. Mix (20-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who debuted for the UFC this past Saturday at UFC 316 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., had tons of hype entering the fight against Bautista (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), as some thought he was already the best bantamweight on the planet. Being the last Bellator bantamweight champion and having arguably the best resume outside the UFC, there were high expectations for Mix. The betting odds reflected that chatter and hype, as Bautista entered as a sizable underdog despite being the UFC veteran. Mix also had plenty to say, already angling a championship fight and saying he was "looking through" Bautista. There was a lot of noise, but Bautista kept grounded. "He was saying he was looking through me, but the whole time I was thinking, 'Well, I'm going to run through you,'" Bautista said at the uFC 316 post-fight press conference. "So I don't know. I can't pay attention to that stuff. At the end of the day, we get in the cage and the words mean nothing. I trained hard for this fight, and that was pretty much it. I won." Bautista shut down Mix over the course of 15 minutes and ended up taking home a unanimous decision win, while extending his winning streak to eight in a row. The MMA Lab product thinks it's time he gets a step-up given his body of work and wants a five-round fight against a title contender. "I definitely want a top-five (opponent)," Bautista said. "I think if Patchy would've won this fight, they would've shot him all the way to the top, so I think I took his spot and all that hype. I definitely deserve a top-five. I'm on an eight fight win streak, and there is no one else above me with a streak like that except for the champion."

Merab Dvalishvili lauds ex-champ Aljamain Sterling for UFC 316 title prep

Merab Dvalishvili lauds ex-champ Aljamain Sterling for UFC 316 title prep Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Merab Dvalishvili post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Merab Dvalishvili spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his bantamweight title defense over Sean O'Malley. NEWARK, N.J. – Merab Dvalishvili has set the bar high for gifts at his pal Aljamain Sterling's upcoming wedding. Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) on Saturday defended his bantamweight title in a rematch with ex-champ Sean O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) in the UFC 316 main event. Dvalishvili beat O'Malley with a dominant decision this past fall, and made things look even easier with a third-round submission in the rematch. Afterward, the champ credited his longtime good friend and training partner, former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling, for working with him during training camp – and pledged to give him half of his $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus as a wedding gift. When Sterling was champion, Dvalishvili said he was content to not fight for the belt as long as his friend held it. But O'Malley was the one who dethroned Sterling, which paved the way for Dvalishvili to make his title run – and sent Sterling to featherweight. "In this training camp, my friend Aljamain Sterling helped me so much," Dvalishvili said at his post-fight news conference at Prudential Center. "He doesn't have a fight (booked) – he's getting married. He doesn't really like sparring, but he was sparring with me three times a week (to mimic O'Malley). He was two times better than Sean O'Malley's striking. He was not trying to shoot on me, take me down. "That proves again that it's not always the best fighter who wins. O'Malley got really lucky against Aljo. But I'm grateful for my friend Aljamain Sterling." Dvalishvili has become known for his relentless pace and cardio – but also has been criticized for the lack of finishes on his resume. The submission of O'Malley broke a streak of five straight decision wins for the champ. Overall, 15 of his 20 career wins have gone the distance. His only UFC finish prior to the O'Malley rematch came against Marlon Moraes in 2021. Check out Dvalishvili's full post-fight news conference above.

Texas A&M baseball loses utility player to the 2025 transfer portal

Texas A&M baseball loses utility player to the 2025 transfer portal The 2025 college baseball transfer portal is officially open, and several Texas A&M Aggies have entered their names in hopes of finding a better fit for the 2026 season. As a reminder, entering the portal does not mean a player has to leave; however, entering early gives them the best chance of finding a landing spot. On Sunday, Andrew Riedell of College Baseball Central reported that utility player Jamal George has entered his name into the transfer portal after his lone season at Texas A&M. The former Alabama State Hornet competed for the starting outfield role and played in 34 games with 17 starts. However, with the emergence of freshman Terrance Kiel II and Caden Sorrell returning to the lineup, George could not hold a starting position. He always brought the energy that was sorely missing all season long, but he could not back it up with consistent play. George finished the season with a slash line of .231/.277/.307, with four RBIs and two stolen bases. Below, you can see the official announcement from the CBC Transfer Portal X account.
