Walmart set to open 5 stores and 1 new Sam's Club: Here's where

Walmart is set to expand its footprint, with five stores slated to open by the end of September.
The big box giant's CEO John Funer said in a January 2024 press release it plans to build or convert more than 150 stores.
Furner said in the same press release that Walmart plans to renovate more than 650 locations across 47 states.
In April, the company said in a press release that it will renovate all 600 Sam's Club locations, open 30 new clubs as originally announced in 2023 and build "a pipeline to open approximately 15 new clubs each year."
"We are not limited by our physicality — we are enabled by it," Sam's Club President and CEO Chris Nicholas said during the company's 2025 Investment Community Meeting. "Our omnichannel model creates more opportunities to engage with members where they are, and how they want to shop."
Here's where Walmart and Sam's Club are opening new locations.
A Walmart spokesperson told USA TODAY that the company is set to open 10 locations by the end of the year.
The spokesperson confirmed that the following locations are set to open by the end of September:
Walmart Neighborhood Market – 8600 Hwy 69, Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Mid-June
Walmart Supercenter Conversion – 600 Showers Dr., Mountain View, California – July
Walmart Supercenter – 9399 North Spring Run Parkway, Eagle Mountain, Utah – August
Walmart Neighborhood Market – 6275 US-90, Milton, Florida – August
Walmart Neighborhood Market – 4239 Berryhill Road, Pace, Florida – September
The company also confirmed that a Sam's Club location in Tempe, Arizona is set to open in early August.

Now US Switch 2 pre-orders are being cancelled, with just days to go

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Quick Summary US customers are complaining that their Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are being cancelled. Walmart, Target and others are allegedly cancelling orders due to payment issues. It's best to check your own ahead of Thursday's launch date. There are just two days to go before you can get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 – although that's looking more unlikely for some. As with some UK retailers, it's been revealed that several stores in the United States are also cancelling pre-orders of the highly anticipated new console. Even at this late hour, posts from disgruntled US customers have started to appear on Reddit and X, claiming that their Nintendo Switch 2 orders have been cancelled by the likes of Walmart and Target. For example, E1_guwop posted on Reddit (via Eurogamer) that their order was cancelled by Target – although they only found out after checking whether the payment had cleared. It seems the issue this time was that pre-orders were initially taken with no payment needed – customers had to authorise payment afterwards to secure the console. It seems to have been a communication issue, with replies thanking the poster for the heads up. It seems to be a similar story with other retailers. Walmart has reportedly cancelled some pre-orders citing payment issues. These seem to be different types of cases to those emerging from the UK. Game has reportedly cancelled several pre-orders without explanation – with some suggesting that it overestimated stock levels. We've been lucky here at T3 – I have had an email from Argos in the UK over the last couple of days, confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 I pre-ordered over a month ago is due to ship on launch day. It's the same with a colleague. I am also awaiting delivery of the Pro Controller and wireless GameCube Controller on the same day (both were pre-ordered from Nintendo directly). If you've also had a similar confirmation email from your retailer of choice, you will likely also get the console this Thursday 5 June. If you haven't yet ordered the console or accessories, you'll likely have to wait however. Accessories on Amazon, for example, are now listed as a 7 June delivery date (for Prime members).

Switch 2 Pre-Order Got Cancelled? You Could Get a Reward

With only days remaining until the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, major retailers have announced a wave of pre-order cancellations. However, that doesn't mean you're entirely out of luck—some buyers got credit applied to their accounts. The cancellations have affected buyers in both the US and the UK. Walmart, Target, Game, and plenty more retailers have had to cancel their customers' purchases. Walmart was one of the retailers that needed to cancel orders. When one Reddit user called the company to find out why their order had been canceled, they were told it was happening to many purchases. That same customer received a $25 credit as compensation. In other words, call the retailer and ask what they can do, ideally in a kind way—the customer service representatives already have to deal with a lot of upset people. A pre-order used to be a guarantee that you'll receive that console on the day of release. Retailers accept your money early to agree to the guarantee, and if you can argue such, you might get money. Remember that every retailer has their own rules for these agreements, and many may have wording that prevents it from being seen as a guarantee. Demand for the Switch 2 was extremely high, which likely surpassed expectations despite the difficulties many faced in securing pre-orders before the release. Game, a major UK retailer, first posted a public apology on social media, admitting that some Switch 2 pre-orders had been canceled and promising to restore as many affected orders as possible. While Game initially said they would reach out to affected customers with updates, they later removed their apology tweet. According to Eurogamer, the now-deleted post said, "We sincerely apologise for the recent cancellation of some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. We understand how disappointing this is, especially for those who have been eagerly awaiting their order. We're currently working hard to reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible. If your order was impacted, please know that we're doing everything we can and will be in touch with further updates and next steps. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this. We truly appreciate your support.' Since the tweet is gone, it is likely that purchases will not be reinstated. There's just not enough product for the amount of pre-orders that went through. You should keep an eye on your own purchases because more pre-orders will likely be canceled as time goes on. The chip shortage has been long over, but it seems like limited consoles will just be normal at release. Nintendo will likely open orders again when there is stock available to buy, but keep in mind that making these takes time and shipping them could take even longer. While it is tempting to buy from scalpers, we know that more are coming, so patience is likely the smarter move. Source: Eurogamer, Los1man on Reddit
