How to watch Google I/O 2025
It's still May, which means it's still Google time. After showing off Android's new look at The Android Show, the company still has its developer conference to check off the list. Google I/O 2025 is scheduled to start on May 20 at 1PM ET / 10AM PT, and Engadget will be covering it live, via a liveblog and on-the-ground reporting from our very own Karissa Bell.
Google included some Gemini news in The Android Show — the AI is coming to Wear OS, Android Auto and Google TV — but artificial intelligence should still be the focus of the company's upcoming keynote. too. Expect news about how Google is using AI in search to be featured prominently, along with some other surprises, like the possible debut of an AI-powered Pinterest alternative. The company made it clear during its Android showcase that Android XR, its mixed reality platform, will also be featured during I/O. That could include the mixed reality headset Google and Samsung are collaborating on, or, as teased at the end of The Android Show, smart glasses with Google's Project Astra built-in.
To find out for yourself, you can watch Google's keynote in the embedded livestream above or on the company's YouTube channel. The event starts at 1PM ET on May 20 and the company plans to hold breakout sessions through May 21 on a variety of different topics relevant to developers.

Amazon to invest $10B in North Carolina for AI data centers
Amazon is investing $10 billion to create data centers in North Carolina aimed at expanding its artificial intelligence and cloud computing technology capabilities. The move, announced Wednesday, is its latest attempt to compete with rivals Google and Microsoft in the artificial intelligence space. It will also significantly boost its presence in the state, creating at least 500 new high-skilled jobs that range from data center engineers and network specialists, to engineering operations managers and security specialists. "This investment supports the [Trump] Administration's vision to strengthen American infrastructure and further safeguard our nation's data," said Shannon Kellogg, Amazon's vice president of public policy. "This deployment of cutting-edge cloud computing infrastructure will strengthen North Carolina's position as an innovation hub." In January, Amazon Web Services announced plans to invest an estimated $11 billion to expand its infrastructure in Georgia. Big tech companies have invested tens of billions of dollars in AI. Amazon Rolling Out Ai-drive Alexa+ Service In a 2024 annual letter to shareholders, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said "generative AI is going to reinvent virtually every customer experience we know, and enable altogether new ones about which we've only fantasized." Leveraging this technology is one way to stay competitive, according to Jassy. "If your customer experiences aren't planning to leverage these intelligent models, their ability to query giant corpuses of data and quickly find your needle in the haystack, their ability to keep getting smarter with more feedback and data, and their future agentic capabilities, you will not be competitive," he wrote. This AI tool is like Perplexity, NotebookLM, and ChatGPT put together — here's why you need it
I don't know if you've noticed, but there are a lot of AI tools out there. An overwhelming number, some might say. So choosing the right option for you can be surprisingly challenging. Of course, there are the obvious options like ChatGPT, Gemini, or one of the other major AI brands, powered by billions in funding and massive supercomputers. However, that doesn't mean they are always the best option for what you need. For example, for students looking to get an edge on a research project, there are lots of other great options out there. After spending some time testing it, one of my new top picks is Logically. Logically, formerly known as Afforai, is an AI workspace. It can be used for both research and writing. In the Logically app or desktop system, you can have everything you need in one place. Start a new document, and you can set headings, write text, add bullet points, tables, images, code, and pretty much anything you would need to write a book, article, research paper, or essay. This alone is seen in countless places like Notion, Word or pretty much any other AI-powered writing software. Logically stands out by combining its writing technology with AI research tools in a few ways: Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Chatbot functionality Much like NotebookLM, you can add research documents, papers, or links for the tool to comb through. Alternatively, through the built-in chatbot, you can ask questions using AI models like Gemini, GPT-4o, or Claude 3.5. This is paired with Google search functions to work in the same way as you might use ChatGPT or Gemini to research a project. Research like a scholar Equally, you can use a feature called Semantic Scholar. Instead of searching the web and the training data of whichever AI model you're using, it will comb through a database of 200 million peer-review research papers. In this mode, it will not only offer the research papers that best answer your question, but it will also offer the reference, the best quote from the paper and allow you to save your reference straight into a bibliography if needed. Document retrival Finally, if you have an exact list of research documents you want to use, a third tool will change the chatbot to only answer questions from your list of research sources. This will also provide citations and references for any information it provides you. Referencing is, quite frankly, a nightmare. Trying to remember where you found a quote, figure or concept can take forever if you don't note it down. Even if you do, there is then the formatting to make it correct for the document. Part of the benefit of Logically is that it does it all for you. Upload documents and links to your project and it will keep them all in one place. By doing this, you can search these documents using the in-built chatbot or just use them for referencing down the line. You can also add tags to different sources, keeping them all organised in different categories. With all of the incredible things AI can do right now, this is hardly ground-breaking. In a lot of ways, this is a tool that is simply taking the best of other AI systems and using them all in one place. But, that is what works so well. Why split your time between ChatGPT, NotebookLM and Perplexity, when you can have them all in one place. On top of all those research tools, youa also have your actual project in the same place too. For the occasional quick project, this isn't all that useful. But if you're in school, working towards a PhD or in a research role that requires you to be constantly deep into a project, Logically feels like it has nailed the formula.

Amazon Vows to Tackle Fake Reviews After UK's CMA Probe
Inc. has vowed to improve its systems to tackle fake reviews on its online marketplace and act against sellers who 'hijack' good reviews following four years of the UK antitrust watchdog's investigation. The Competition and Markets Authority said Amazon gave undertakings for to make it easier to report fake reviews and sanction businesses that use good reviews for one product for an entirely different product. Alphabet Inc. 's Google gave similar commitments in January.
