Mohandas Pai slams Bengaluru metro authorities over Yellow Line delays, calls work culture ‘lousy'
Former Infosys CFO and civic commentator Mohandas Pai has sharply criticised the Bengaluru Development Minister and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) over the latest setback in the launch of the Yellow Line of Namma Metro. Pai, known for his outspokenness on Bengaluru's urban infrastructure issues, took to X to express his frustration over what he called a 'very bad lousy work culture' and demanded accountability from those responsible for the repeated delays.

In a scathing post tagging Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Pai wrote:
'Minister @DKShivakumar, what is happening? Is there no value in deadlines? Delay after delay! Is there any management at all? They are letting you down very badly again and again. Please suspend the official responsible. Very bad lousy work culture. This could have been done long back.'
Pai's outburst comes amid yet another delay in the launch of the 19.15-km Yellow Line corridor, which connects RV Road to Bommasandra. Initially expected to be operational by mid-2024, the project is now facing a likely pushback to late July or August, according to a Deccan Herald report.

The latest hurdle stems from critical issues with the train signalling system. BMRCL officials confirmed that Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) approvals are still pending due to glitches detected in software datasets during the review by Siemens India Ltd, the contractor responsible for the signalling system.
'Train operations rely entirely on software. Even a small error triggers the system's fail-safe mode,' a senior BMRCL official explained.
Though BMRCL has reportedly completed all other statutory tests, the ISA certification remains a key requirement before the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) can give the final clearance for operations.
This fresh delay is particularly embarrassing given Deputy CM D K Shivakumar's public assurance that the Yellow Line would be operational by May 2025. However, with a history of missed deadlines, the project is once again in the spotlight — and under intense public scrutiny.

DMK's general council meeting dynastic drama, diversion tactic: Union Minister Murugan
Chennai: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan launched a scathing attack on the DMK following its general council meeting in Madurai, accusing the party of engaging in dynastic theatrics and diversionary tactics to mask its failures. Calling the meeting a 'coronation event', Murugan alleged that the DMK had convened it primarily to reaffirm that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's son would inherit party leadership. The DMK held its general council meeting on Sunday, where it adopted 27 resolutions. 'It was a political drama to promote the 'prince' and pacify second-tier leaders who act like local feudal lords,' he said. The minister condemned the resolutions passed by the DMK, especially those criticising the Central government, calling them attempts to distract the public from the state government's poor performance and deep-rooted corruption. 'This is classic boogeyman politics -- when there's nothing real to show, invent an enemy,' he said. He accused the DMK of lacking moral standing to speak on caste-based census, education policy, or federalism. 'What did they do when they were part of the UPA government? Nothing. Today, they raise hollow slogans while clinging to Congress, the very party that removed education from the state list,' he added. Murugan also dismissed the DMK's rhetoric on issues like the Waqf Act, Hindi imposition, and Katchatheevu, saying the party was using these topics to deflect attention from corruption investigations. 'If you're innocent, why fear probes by the ED or IT? The law will take its course,' he said. He questioned the credibility of the resolution to declare Karunanidhi's birthday as Classical Tamil Day, arguing it reduced Tamil pride to a family legacy. 'To the DMK, Tamil Nadu is Karunanidhi Nadu,' he remarked. Slamming the party for selective outrage, Murugan noted the DMK's silence on sexual abuse cases in state institutions was selective. He concluded with a strong political message: 'The people of Tamil Nadu are ready for change. In 2026, the AIADMK-BJP alliance will secure a historic victory and end this era of corrupt, dynastic rule.'

"Kamal Haasan's Film Won't Release Without His Apology": Karnataka Film Body
Bengaluru: The row over legendary actor Kamal Haasan's "Kannada is born out of Tamil" remark shows no sign of dying down. A Karnataka film body has now warned that if the actor does not apologise for his remark, his upcoming movie Thug Life won't be released. "If he doesn't apologise, Thug Life won't run Karnataka. This is for sure, this is not about the industry, this is about the state. Even political parties are opposing, pro-Kannada organisations are making it clear that he has to respond. The movie's release is difficult without his apology. Our exhibitors or distributors are not ready to screen it. How can the movie release here?" Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president M Narasimhalu said. During a promotional event for Thug Life, which stars Mr Haasan, Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR, the legendary actor said "Kannada was born out of Tamil". The remark sparked a massive row as politicians cutting across party lines slammed the actor. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Kannada language has a long history and that Mr Hassan "doesn't know about it. Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra has demanded an apology. "One must love their mother tongue, but flaunting arrogance in its name is a mark of cultural bankruptcy. Especially for artists, it is essential to possess the ethos of respecting every language," he said. The BJP leader said Mr Haasan acted in films of several languages, including Kannada, but his remark shows "blatant arrogance". Several pro-Kannada organisations have hit out at the actor and demanded an apology. The actor has, however, made it clear that he has no plan to apologise. "It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I've been threatened earlier too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise, if I'm not, I won't," he has said.

Tamil Nadu govt offers aid to Madrasi Camp residents after Delhi demolition, Tamilians demand jobs
New Delhi [India] June 2 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu government has announced comprehensive support for residents of Madrasi Camp in Delhi's Jangpura, who wish to return to their native districts in Tamil Nadu following a demolition drive on June 1. The demolition, carried out to clear illegal encroachments along the Barapullah drain as per a Delhi High Court order, has displaced hundreds of families, predominantly of Tamil Nadu origin. The state government has pledged assistance for livelihood and other essential needs, with coordination facilitated through the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi and district collectors. Mani, a Tamil resident affected by the demolition, expressed frustration over the lack of opportunities in Tamil Nadu, stating, 'They should give jobs to those already in Madras right now, and then they should call us. Why are people roaming around there? First, they should handle Tamil Nadu, then they should look at Delhi. If they had given us jobs, why would we have come to Delhi from Tamil Nadu?' On Sunday, the demolition drive at Madrasi Camp in Jangpura, South East Delhi, was carried out as authorities acted on court orders to clear encroachments along the Barapulla drain. The operation was carried out to resolve the flooding issues caused by the narrowed drain, which obstructs water flow during heavy rains. A total of 370 encroachments have been demolished, with 189 residents deemed eligible for resettlement and allocated flats in Narela, while 181 are ineligible for resettlement. Anil Banka, District Magistrate of South East Delhi, on the ongoing demolition drive at Madrasi Camp in the Jangpura area, said, 'This action is being carried out as per the court's orders, and we are removing the encroachments solely based on those directives. The Barapulla drain had become narrow, hindering its cleaning and causing issues with water flow. During heavy rains, flooding spreads across the area due to these obstructions. The matter was under consideration in court, which has now permitted us to proceed with the removal starting today. We have also allotted flats in Narela to all eligible residents affected by this drive.' He further said, 'Notices regarding the encroachments were already given to residents, and until now, 370 illegal encroachments have been demolished. While 189 are eligible for resettlement, 181 are not eligible.' (ANI)
