Two boys were abused by an adult, then left in a Pontiac home alone, deputies report
Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore, 38, was arraigned Sunday on charges of second- and fourth-degree child abuse and is being held in the Oakland County Jail on $100,000 bond.
The charges result from circumstances Thursday night, in which the two children were left alone at a Pontiac home without an adult. One of them eventually walked to another home to get help, and that homeowner called deputies.
Once officers arrived, they found multiple injuries on that child who said he had been beaten with a belt and struck with a broom handle by an adult who later left the house. The boy also explained there was a younger child still in the home.
The older boy was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for his injuries and was listed in stable condition.
In the meantime, younger child was found to have cigarette burns on his back and legs. He was turned over to the custody of a relative.
Moore was arrested later that day.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A man who killed his wife and two children in 1994 after she sought a divorce is scheduled for execution in Florida under a death warrant signed Tuesday by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Edward J. Zakrzewski, II, is set to die July 31 in the ninth execution scheduled for this year in the state. He pleaded guilty in 1996 to three counts of first-degree murder and received three death sentences in the killings of wife Sylvia Zakrzewski, son Edward Zakrzewski, 7, and Anna Zakrzewski, 5. The man beat his wife with a crowbar and machete and strangled her to death and killed the children with a machete June 9, 1994, in Okaloosa County. He eventually turned himself into law enforcement after the case was profiled on the television show 'Unsolved Mysteries,' according to court documents. Another man on death row, Michael Bernard Bell, 54, is set to die by lethal injection July 15 at Florida State Prison. He's convicted of killing two people outside a bar. Thomas Lee Gudinas, 51, who was convicted of raping and killing a woman in Florida, was executed following a lethal injection at the same prison last week. The state also executed six people in 2023 but only carried out one execution last year.

Bryan Kohberger Prosecutor Had Another Controversial Plea Deal With Death Penalty
The Bryan Kohberger plea deal in Idaho is not the first controversial bargain struck by the same District Attorney's Office ... because the top prosecutor made a similar deal nearly 29 years ago to the day ... and it also involved murders and the death penalty. TMZ did some digging and we found out that back in July 1996, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson -- who still holds the same position today -- struck a deal to spare the life of a man who admitted to killing two people. The parallels here are eerie ... because in that case, two Chinese nationals were stabbed to death in their Moscow, ID apartment ... and a former University of Idaho student copped to the murders. The killer, Wenkai Li, was charged with first-degree murder, and capital punishment was on the table if he was found guilty ... but he struck a deal with Thompson where the death penalty was taken off the table, and he pled guilty to second-degree murder. The families of the slain victims in that case were furious, and they ripped Thompson in a letter to the judge, saying they were "extremely upset and dissatisfied with the plea bargain" ... which they said betrayed the truth. In Kohberger's case ... he was charged with first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing deaths of University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves. The students were killed inside their off-campus home in Moscow. Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty, but they made a deal with Kohberger where he will plead guilty in exchange for prosecutors removing capital punishment from the equation ... and the families of two of the victims are up in arms. Thompson is the common denominator here and it kinda makes ya wonder ... is this the D.A.'s modus operandi ... taking the death penalty off the table and plea-bargaining to avoid a trial?!? Woman critically wounded in Auburn Gresham stabbing, police say
A young woman was stabbed and critically wounded Tuesday night in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city's South Side, according to Chicago police. The victim, 27, was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown offender in the 7800 block of South Sangamon Street around 6:30 p.m. when the attacker grabbed a sharp object and stabbed the woman in the abdomen, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition, officials said. Police could not immediately say whether anyone was in police custody as Calumet Area detectives continued their investigation. tkenny@
