Meet Bollywood director who was once on a gangster hit list, quit filmmaking, took CID training to save his life, his name is…
The director who once faced threatening warnings from gangsters was none other than Rajiv Rai. The director said that he had received death threats from gangsters. Not only this, when Bollywood was getting threats from the underworld, his office was also attacked, after which he shifted to the UK. But he has now returned to India. Rajiv Rai on One of the Scariest Times in His Life
In the interview, while recalling his terrifying experiences in the 90s, the director revealed that the police had instructed him not to answer calls from the underworld and even advised him to undergo CID training for his safety.
He said, 'The problem started after the film Gupt. After that, I did two films which were not as expected. So, this was also very disturbing for me. The next day I got a call on my landline. No one asked for money. I didn't say anything, I never came on the phone, we never talked. I immediately called the police and they told me not to talk.'
He further said, 'We had recorders in our office; everything was recorded and sent to the police. I must have said hello on the first call, I understood something was wrong. I talked for four seconds, then I pretended as if I was someone else. I think whatever calls I used to get at that time, the motive must have been money.' When Rajiv Rai Was Attacked
Rajiv Rai recalled the time when he was attacked in his office in 1997. The director said that he was attacked by a bunch of men with guns and bullets. However, he was not very comfortable talking about the same.
On leaving the country due to threats, Rajiv Rai said, 'I left because of pressure. My father was not well. I had to take care of him. I could not bear his death. I thought if I get shot then who will take care of him. My son was also not well. He is autistic and I had to teach him. There were a lot of threats. So I had a lot of reasons. I thought I should take a decision.'

CB-CID would complete caste killing probe in 2 months: State to HC
Madurai: The state on Tuesday informed the Madras high court that the CB-CID would complete the investigation and file the final report within two months in the caste killing case of C Kavin Selva Ganesh, in Tirunelveli. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by S M A Pon Gandhimathinathan. The petitioner sought a direction for a district judge to monitor the CB-CID probe into the caste killing incident and to provide compensation to the family members of the deceased man. The petitioner also sought a direction to the state to enact special legislation to prevent caste killing incidents. During the course of the hearing, the state informed that following the incident, swift actions were taken by the Palayamkottai police, who registered a case and arrested the accused, Surjith, on the same day of the incident on July 27. Police also arrested Surjith's father, Saravanan, who was working as a sub-inspector of police, on July 30. As per SC/ST Act and Rules, interim compensation was paid to the family members of the deceased. Subsequently, the case was also transferred to the CB-CID, who registered a case and commenced their investigation. However, the petitioner's counsel submitted that Surjith's mother, Krishnakumari, who is also a sub-inspector of police, was not yet arrested in the case. He submitted that an inspector of police, Kasipandian, threatened the deceased before the date of occurrence and acted in favour of the accused's family. This aspect should also be looked into by the investigating officer. Since it is a gruesome caste killing, a district judge should monitor the CB-CID probe in the case. A division bench of justice S M Subramaniam and justice A D Maria Clete observed that the CB-CID commenced the investigation in the case. Taking into account the fact that the petitioner had not raised any allegation against the investigating team, the judges directed the CB-CID to complete the investigation in the case and file a final report within two months, as per the state's submission.
