Yahoo4 days ago

Newly released court documents detail the moments that led up to a Renton man's death during a robbery as police continue to look for a second suspect involved.
On March 5, the body of 23-year-old Axel Chirino-Banegas was found inside the Sunset View apartment he shared with his uncle.
Chirino-Banegas' cousin had been trying to get in touch with him several times but hadn't heard anything. His cousin went to his apartment to check in him himself, and found the door unlocked, which was odd, he told investigators.
When he went inside, he found Chirino-Banegas facedown in the kitchen, bound at the hands and feet with duct tape over his mouth.
He ran out of the apartment to call 911.
When officers arrived, they found that the apartment had been ransacked-- furniture was moved, and drawers and cupboards were wide open, according to court documents.
Chirino-Banegas was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was determined to have died from asphyxia and had multiple blunt force injuries.
Surveillance video showed a vehicle with two people inside, one with backpacks, heading up to the victim's apartment.
That surveillance video was able to get plates on the car and help identify a suspect. A search warrant for phone records also put the suspect at the scene, according to court documents.
The suspect was identified as 56-year-old Huy 'Alex' Huu Nguyen. The second suspect, the person driving the vehicle, has not been identified or apprehended.
It's unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other. The victim's uncle said he did not know of anyone by that name.
According to court documents, Huu Nguyen allegedly pawned off the stolen items at three different stores the same day the victim's body was found.
Huu Nguyen has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree trafficking in stolen property.
Bail was set at $2 million.
'Defendant poses a risk of violence to the community and bail should be maintained. Defendant's release also risks interference with the administration of justice. Another conspirator is yet to be identified and apprehended. Release of the Defendant absent a bail amount risks outstanding evidence of the unidentified conspirator to be further concealed or destroyed," prosecutors said in court documents.
His arraignment is set for June 18.

Suspect arrested in murder of 23-year-old Renton man

A man has been arrested in connection with a Renton murder that occurred in March. On March 5, 23-year-old Axel Chirinos Banegas was found dead by a family member in his apartment on Edmonds Ave. NE. Investigators believe he was specifically targeted and that it was not a random attack. Video surveillance footage shows the suspect leaving with two safes containing watches and other valuable items. After serving a search warrant on the suspect's apartment, interviewing neighbors, family, and friends, and evaluating the evidence, detectives developed probable cause for murder. Detectives arrested a 56-year-old man on investigation of murder. He was booked into jail without incident. This is a developing story. KIRO 7 will have updates as they become available.

Small plane crashes near airport in Renton, WA

The Brief All occupants are safe after a small plane skidded off the runway in Renton. The aircraft reportedly slid partially into Lake Washington. Environmental and law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the crash. RENTON, Wash. - A small plane crashed into the water after skidding off the runway at an airport in Renton on Sunday afternoon. The pilot and passenger on board were both able to escape the plane and are doing well after sliding into Lake Washington at the north end of the Renton Municipal Airport near Permiter Road, according to Renton Police Public Information Officer Meeghan Black. A Boeing fire department truck and a large tow truck with a crane arrived at around 4:15 p.m. on June 1 to pull the plane from the water. Renton Police spokesperson Meeghan Black says the plane is a Cessna. It's unclear what may have caused it to take a dive, but the investigation continues. What they're saying We talked to one neighbor who was surprised to see a plane crash into the water there. "Well, it was really strange. This is the only one I've heard of here. And I understand the two people in the plane got out," said Naaman "Shep" Shepard. Representatives with the Environmental Protection Agency were called out to the scene to investigate any leakage of toxic materials in or near Lake Washington. Also, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were notified and will be following up with an investigation into what caused the incident, according to Renton Police. As for what happened prior to the crash, police say the pilot stated that she was on a training flight and was practicing emergency landings before the plane went into the water.
