Pittsburgh Steelers $132 Million Acquisition Named Among Best Offseason Moves

Pittsburgh Steelers $132 Million Acquisition Named Among Best Offseason Moves originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan had an awfully busy offseason. In March alone, Khan made six new free agent signings, wasting no time trying to fine-tune a roster that has won 10 games in each of the last two NFL seasons. Advertisement The biggest splash of Khan's offseason was trading a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Seattle Seahawks, acquiring DK Metcalf, who singed a four-year, $132 million dollar extension with the Steelers. Metcalf is one of the most physical and dynamic receivers in football and will immediately be slotted in as Pittsburgh's No. 1 receiver after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Despite the prospect of a Metcalf-Pickens duo tearing up NFL defenses, the Steelers couldn't afford both. Pittsburgh still needs to find another capable receiver to pair with Metcalf. But in the meantime, the Steelers are being lauded for this move. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport ranked the top moves of the offseason, and this deal made the cut. Regardless of who Pittsburgh's quarterback was going to be in 2025, it needed to upgrade at wide receiver, especially given all the smoke (which was correct as it turns out) that George Pickens' days were numbered in the Steel City." Davenport wrote. "Metcalf's 2024 campaign wasn't a great one, but he has three 1,000-yard seasons in six years and is the true No. 1 wideout the team was lacking before the deal. Advertisement Metcalf had a down year in terms of production in 2024, but still managed a great season. He hauled in 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. His touchdown mark was the lowest of his career. Metcalf has never had a season with less than 900 yards in his six-year NFL career. Acquiring Metcalf and signing him to a longterm extension took a lot to get done, but it should be worth the cost. The 27-year old will be the best receiver to suit up for Pittsburgh since Antonio Brown. Paired with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Metcalf should be primed for a productive 2025. Rodgers loves targeting his No. 1's, especially showcased by his play for the New York Jets last season after they acquired Davante Adams. Rashee Rice Sends Clear Message to Chiefs WR Amid Offseason

Rashee Rice Sends Clear Message to Chiefs WR Amid Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Coming off their surprising blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a pretty big dent in their aura of invincibility. Advertisement But while there are those who predict them to take a step back this coming season, the reality is that they still have a very strong roster. If anything, they could become a little bit better, mostly because wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected back after a knee injury in Week 4 of 2024 prematurely ended his season. Teammate Marquise Brown took to Instagram to post a message as the Chiefs continue to gather for organized team activities (OTAs) with the start of the 2025 campaign three months away. "Hope these voices in my head go quiet 🥷🏿🌪️," he wrote. Rice responded with the comment "My Bloody!🤞🏾♥️." After trading superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill in 2022, Kansas City has had what has seemed like a revolving door at that position. But Rice has given them hope that he can become a major go-to guy. Advertisement After he was a second-round draft pick in 2023, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie while starting eight of 16 games. Until his injury last fall, he had 24 receptions, 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games. He isn't quite as speedy as Hill, but he has shown plenty of promise in one season and change. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice (4).Kareem Elgazzar-USA TODAY Sports The new speedster in Kansas City is wideout Xavier Worthy, who set a new NFL scouting combine record by running the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds in 2024. As a rookie last year, he had 744 total yards and nine total touchdowns. In that Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, he posted eight receptions, 157 yards and two touchdowns. Racquetball's U.S. Open coming to Springfield in 2026

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–A year from Tuesday, the best racquetball players in the world will be in Springfield for the U.S. Open. Executive Director Jeff Collins made the announcement. And he expects up to 500 racquetball players from around the world to gather in Springfield in June of 2026. Missouri State's racquetball courts at Plaster Stadium will host preliminary matches. And the championship matches will be in a special glass-encased court at the Expo Center. Grandstands will be built around the special court. Racquetball's U.S. Open has not been held since 2022. So it'll also be a reunion for top level players. 'It's always been that kind of pilgrimage for all the racquetball players that they want to go to the U.S. Open. They want to compete to be crowned U.S. Open champion for either their age bracket or their skill division. But it's also a chance for family to get back to together,' said USA Racquetball's Stewart Solomon. 'You know the name U.S. Open is so recognizable. And in racquetball, like other sports, the prize money is doubled, tripled quadrupled. Along with that it's doubled, tripled, quadrupled the points. And when all that stuff is added in there, it just matters more. And play gets more intense,' said former racquetball pro Cliff Swan. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
