Sheikh Hamdan Launches Hewi Dubai
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), announced the Hewi Dubai initiative, marking a bold new vision for public spaces in Dubai.
The initiative seeks to revive the vibrant spirit of the traditional Emirati fareej (neighbourhood) in a modern, human-centric way by creating new community spaces that strengthen social bonds and promote an active lifestyle.
Sheikh Hamdan said: 'Community bonds are among the core values Emirati families are raised on. We must pass on these values to future generations and design public spaces that bring neighbours together, where families can gather, elders can meet, and children can create endearing memories in a safe and welcoming environment.
Sheikh Hamdan added: 'These new spaces will be anything but conventional. They are intended as vibrant extensions of our cultural identity and future aspirations, reflecting our values and redefining what public spaces mean to our city.'
As part of the initiative, Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4, which will be developed by DFF in partnership with Dubai Municipality, represents a new model for public space creation, one that is co-designed with residents, informed by comprehensive data, and grounded in culture.
Located between a mosque and a residential neighbourhood in Nad Al Sheba 4, the site was selected for its walking-friendly vibe and natural sense of community. The park embodies a shift away from one-size-fits-all spaces toward a new generation of neighbourhood parks that prioritise comfort, belonging, and the rhythms of everyday life.
Each element of the park has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the needs and values of its surrounding community.
A shaded gathering area near the mosque, known as Al Decha, is designed to bring generations together and offers a calm retreat where elders can share stories over Arabic coffee or tea.
Al Saaha, a flexible indoor-outdoor space, has been designed to accommodate community events, workshops, and celebrations.
The space invites neighbours to take ownership and host moments that reflect their lives and values.
For families, Al Yalsa provides a comfortable seating area overlooking the children's play zone, which is ideal for relaxation, watching over the kids, or informal meetings.
Meandering paths and nature-based play areas encourage exploration, movement, and intergenerational bonding, transforming the park into a space that feels both natural and deeply familiar.

Sharjah Public Libraries Launch Exhibition On Arabic Script Evolution
As part of its centennial celebrations, Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL) has launched an engaging exhibition titled 'The History of Letters and Movement', currently on display at Al Rahmaniyah Mall until 20 July. The exhibition is held in collaboration with the Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah and traces the evolution of Arabic script over 14 centuries — from early abstract forms to one of the most expressive writing systems in the world. Open daily from 10am to 10pm, the exhibition offers a deep dive into the milestones that have shaped Arabic writing, highlighting key developments such as the introduction of diacritical marks, refinement of calligraphic styles, and the script's elevation through its use in the Holy Quran. These transformations turned Arabic script into both a medium for knowledge transmission and a form of artistic expression, preserving cultural identity across generations. The exhibition underscores the pivotal role of the Holy Quran in standardising and enhancing the Arabic language. Through its linguistic precision and aesthetic excellence, the Quran has significantly influenced the tools of writing and pronunciation, helping Arabic evolve into a comprehensive and eloquent language. Rare manuscripts and artefacts from the Holy Quran Academy's collection are on display, showcasing the artistic diversity of Arabic calligraphy. These exhibits reveal how the written word has preserved heritage and served as a mirror of societal and intellectual shifts in the Arab and Islamic worlds. Eman Bushulaibi, Director of SPL, said: 'The exhibition is part of SPL's ongoing efforts to introduce the public to the rich artistic and cultural heritage embedded in Arabic writing. The development of Arabic script reflects a cultural movement that played a key role in the intellectual and scientific renaissance of the Arab and Islamic world.' She added that despite the limited tools available to early scribes — just reed pens and inkwells — they succeeded in creating a legacy of knowledge that continues to inspire. 'We hope visitors will reflect on this enduring power of writing and its vital role in preserving identity and sharing ideas across generations.' SPL encourages residents and visitors of all ages to explore the journey of the Arabic letter, from stone inscriptions to printed books, in this unique celebration of a living linguistic heritage.

Zayed National Museum Announces Abu Dhabi Opening
Zayed National Museum will open its doors to the public this year. The UAE national museum announced its opening for December 2025 in Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi, which houses one of the highest concentrations of cultural institutions globally. The Zayed National Museum will honour the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his commitment to education, identity and belonging, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said in a statement. The museum will operate through immersive exhibitions, active research, and public programming, building on Sheikh Zayed's vision and upholding the values he stood for, including humanitarianism and preserving legacy. The museum's collection features artefacts from across the UAE, including donations that speak to the heritage of the country, in addition to domestic and international loans. 'The cultural legacy of the UAE has been nurtured over decades, from the establishment of its earliest cultural institutions to today's expansive vision for cultural exchange and knowledge. Saadiyat Cultural District represents the next chapter in this national journey, curating world-class institutions that honour the past and engage the future. As the national museum of the UAE, Zayed National Museum is the legacy of our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,' Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi said. 'It is a tribute to his boundless belief in people, in their ability to learn, to uphold the values of unity, compassion and national pride. This museum is more than a place of preservation; it is a promise to future generations, a beacon of our identity, and a space where our story is told not just through objects, but through emotion, memory and vision. This institution will carry our story forward for generations to come,' he added. Sheikh Zayed held a conviction that an understanding of the past was essential to shaping the nation for the benefit of future generations. His passion for exploring the UAE's heritage and celebrating the influences that shaped Emirati culture led to the establishment of the country's first museum in Al Ain in 1971, followed by the opening of the Cultural Foundation in 1981. The museum's collection includes Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age artefacts, many of which were uncovered by archaeological teams over half a century ago. These discoveries, from the world's oldest falaj irrigation system to traces of Bronze Age copper mining, stand as evidence of the ingenuity and resilience of the UAE's earliest communities and reflect Sheikh Zayed's commitment to bringing the nation's history to light. Museum highlights will include the Abu Dhabi Pearl, one of the world's oldest natural pearls, shedding light on the history of pearling in the Arabian Gulf; the Blue Qur'an, one of Islamic art's manuscripts; and a recreation of a Magan Boat, the outcome of the museum's first research partnership with Zayed University and New York University Abu Dhabi. Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners designed the museum. The museum's design embodies the heritage of the United Arab Emirates, which is at the forefront of its sustainable design. Five steel structures rise above the museum and are inspired by the wing of a falcon in flight with falconry considered a practice that is part of Emirati culture. The museum will offer an inclusive and accessible experience that connects people across generations and geographies. Through its galleries, learning programmes and research, it will bring global perspectives into dialogue with the UAE's heritage and contemporary identity. From inspiring young people and engaging People of Determination and senior citizens, to driving international scholarship, Zayed National Museum will stand as a platform for cultural exchange and shared understanding. As part of Saadiyat Cultural District's mission to foster dialogue and promote cultural equity, Zayed National Museum will present collections and narratives that celebrate the region's heritage and represent Abu Dhabi's role as a crossroads of civilisations. It will stand alongside several cultural institutions within the District, including Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, the upcoming Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's role as a global meeting place for culture, ideas, and innovation.

Al Noor Commemorates Excellent Results
TDT | Manama Al Noor International School celebrated the Graduation Ceremony of its eighteenth batch of Grade 12 Arabic Section students, who achieved a 100% pass rate in the Ministry of Education Examinations. The event was held at The Gulf Hotel on Tuesday, 27th May 2025 at 7:30 PM. The ceremony was graced by Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation; Dr. Sana Saeed Abdullah Al Haddad, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Educational License; and Ms. Lulwa Ghassan Al-Muhanna, Director of the Directorate of Licensing Department, Kingdom of Bahrain — alongside the School's Founder Chairman Mr. Ali Hasan. Out of 78 students, 7% scored above 98%, 35% scored above 90%, and 63% scored above 80%. All students expressed heartfelt gratitude and joy over their academic achievements. On behalf of the graduating class, a thank you speech in Arabic was delivered by Sayed Abdulla Ali, and in English by Nasser Mohamed Jawad. The prestigious rolling trophy was awarded to Limar Ammar by the school's leadership. , School Director, shared that the management is committed to seeking even greater academic success in the future. Principal Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Kooheji also took the stage to highlight the school's milestones and progress throughout the academic year 2024–2025.
