Alcoholic beverage company Pernod Ricard India on Wednesday said it will extend benefits of price reduction on imported liquor to consumers following implementation of the free trade agreement between India and UK. Terming the India-UK FTA as a "positive step forward for both the industry and consumers", Pernod Ricard India (PRI) said it will improve access to premium Scotch whiskies "Notably, the FTA is expected to improve access to premium Scotch whiskies by making them more competitively priced, as reductions in import duties on Bottled in Origin products will translate into lower retail prices across most states," said a PRI spokesperson.Under the trade pact, announced earlier this month, India will reduce duties on UK whisky and gin from 150 per cent to 75 per cent, and further to 40 per cent by the tenth year.PRI is the subsidiary of French spirits maker Pernod Ricard. It leads the india market in terms of sales.According to PRI, while the formal details of the UK-India FTA are still awaited, the agreement in principle marks a positive step forward for both the industry and consumers. However, PRI also added that it will have a minimum impact on the prices of IMFL ( India Made Foreign Liquor )."These price reductions will benefit Indian consumers, while having minimal impact on Indian Made Foreign Liquor, which remains at a significantly lower price point," the spokesperson said.In India, retail prices of liquor are controlled by policies of respective state governments. They identify import duty as a separate component of the retail selling price in their respective areas."Once the final terms are officially announced, we will continue to assess the implications of the FTA as they come into effect," said PRI.Earlier British spirits maker Diageo, which owns brands such as Johnny Waker had said it expects a reduction of "high single digit" in consumer prices along with additional volume growth after implementation of the India-UK free trade agreementPernod Ricard's global portfolio comprises over 200 premium brands, including 100 Pipers, Chivas Regal, The Glenlivet, Absolut, Havana Club and Jacob's Creek. It also owns IMFL brands such as Blenders Pride, Imperial Blue and Royal Stag.

Jaishankar calls for deeper trade ties with Central Asian nations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his counterparts from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic here on Thursday and discussed ways to further boost India's cooperation with these Central Asian countries. India is hosting the fourth edition of Central Asia Dialogue to forge a closer, wider and stronger partnership with the region, the Ministry of External Affairs said. Among leaders on the dais were Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign minister Murat Nurtleu, Kyrgyz Republic's Foreign minister Jeenbek Kulubayev, Tajikistan's Foreign minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Turkmenistan's Foreign minister Rashid Meredov and Uzbekistan's Foreign minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. The ministers are attending the conclave to be held in Delhi on Friday. Addressing the Foreign ministers at the India-Central Asia business council Thursday, Jaishankar said: 'India's trade and economic ties with Central Asia over the last decade have actually shown a very strong positive trend. Mutual trade was less than $500 million a decade ago in 2014… now a trade volume which is almost touching $2 billion.' The EAM called for deepening the existing cooperation both in terms of 'volume and in terms of quality'. He also said that they need to 'diversify trade baskets' and introduce greater sustainability and more predictability in economic interactions and that means more long-term contracts and arrangements, cross investments, joint ventures and certainly sectors like energy — whether uranium, crude oil, gas, coal or fertilizers. Flagging digital economy and innovation, the EAM said that E-commerce platforms, blockchains, cross-border digital payments are transforming the way the world interacts, trades and effects payments and India would be ready to partner on platforms like the UPI, Aadhaar, DigiLocker with the Central Asian partners. In the field of Financial Services, Jaishankar said that closer engagements between banks and the financial sector will strengthen economic interaction. And he said they can facilitate mutual settlement of trade in national currencies. On healthcare and pharma, he said that India supplies about 60 per cent of generic medicines globally, called for cooperation between drug Regulators and hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, as well as the supply of medical equipment and devices. Jaishankar also pitched for improving connectivity through INSTC(International North South Transport Corridor). Greater use of Chabahar port will surely reduce travel distance and costs, Jaishankar said. 'I certainly hope that we will get it in time because sometime in the not so distant future we would like to see a Leaders summit between India and the Central Asian Five,' he said. Russia buys Trump claim he brokered India-Pak truce

NEW DELHI: Russia appeared to be buying into US President Donald Trump's claim that he mediated the "ceasefire" in the India-Pakistan military conflict that followed India's Operation Sindoor strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan. A ccording to President Vladimir Putin's aide Yury Ushakov, the issue figured in the "highly productive and positive" talks that Putin had with Trump on Wednesday. In his account of the conversation, Ushakov said other than Ukraine, a number of other international issues were raised "as well as the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which has been halted with the personal involvement of President Trump". Putin strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and also backed India's efforts to bring perpetrators to justice. However, Ushakov's remark about Trump's role is unlikely to go down well with Indian authorities who have repeatedly denied that the US or any other country brought the conflict to an end. India also rejected Trump's offer of mediation on the Kashmir issue, saying it will always engage bilaterally with Pakistan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo External affairs minister S Jaishankar had said earlier that while American leaders were in touch with India and Pakistan, the pause in fighting was directly negotiated by the Indian and Pakistani armies, after Pakistan reached out to India for a dialogue. US secretary of commerce Howard Lutnick had later said on oath in a US court that Trump had used trade to avert a full-scale war between the "nuclear armed" countries. Putin is likely to visit India later this year for the annual India-Russia summit. Before that, as reported by TOI on May 26, foreign minister Sergey Lavrov will travel to India later this month to finalise agenda for the summit.
