5 Google I/O 2025 AI features you can try now in India right away
Google showcased several new features at its annual developer conference, I/O 2025, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence. The updates cover a range of Google products, offering new tools and services for developers, businesses, and everyday users. Here are five key features now available or coming soon in India.
Google upgraded its Gemini AI models with new capabilities. The Gemini 2.5 Pro version includes a 'Deep Think' mode that helps solve complex math and coding tasks by considering multiple possibilities before providing answers. Another version, Gemini 2.5 Flash, offers a faster and more cost-effective option for developers. It handles large texts, images, code, and logic tasks while using fewer tokens, making it a more budget-conscious choice without much loss in performance.

Google also launched Google Beam, the renamed and commercialised form of Project Starline. This product uses six cameras combined with AI to produce a 3D video chat experience that creates a realistic sense of presence. It delivers smooth, real-time tracking at 60 frames per second. HP will release Beam devices for business use later this year. Companies like Deloitte, Duolingo, and Salesforce have already adopted the technology. Although it is not a direct replacement for Zoom, Google Beam aims to make virtual meetings more immersive.

A new subscription plan, AI Ultra, was introduced at a price of $250 (roughly Rs. 21,349) per month. This service provides early access to Google's latest AI tools and unlimited use of features like Deep Research. Subscribers also receive 30TB of storage across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. The plan bundles YouTube Premium and offers access to experimental features such as Project Mariner.
Google Meet now includes AI-powered real-time translation during video calls. The system translates spoken words almost instantly, preserving the speaker's tone and style. Initially, this feature supports communication between English and Spanish speakers. It is currently available in beta for users with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Additional languages will be added soon.

Facebook parent Meta becomes the latest American company to 'go nuclear' for AI
Meta has signed a 20-year agreement to secure nuclear power to meet the growing energy demands for artificial intelligence and other computing needs at Facebook's parent company. According to a report by Associated Press, the deal will also boost the output of Constellation Energy's Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois. Announced on June 3, the agreement is part of a broader trend of tech companies partnering with nuclear energy providers as AI usage surges. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Clinton plant, originally set to close in 2017 due to financial losses, was sustained by Illinois' zero-emission credit program, which expires in 2027, as per the report. The Meta deal, effective from June 2027, will increase the plant's clean energy output by 30 megawatts, preserve 1,100 local jobs, and generate $13.5 million in annual tax revenue, the companies said. 'Securing clean, reliable energy is necessary to continue advancing our AI ambitions,' Meta's head of global energy, Urvi Parekh, said. The report notes that tech giants face dual pressures: increasing energy supplies for AI and data centers while meeting ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals. Constellation, which owns the shuttered Three Mile Island plant, announced in September a plan to restart it to supply Microsoft's data centers, the AP reports. The Pennsylvania plant was the site of the U.S.' worst commercial nuclear accident in 1979. Amazon and Google have also invested in small nuclear reactors, with Amazon announcing plans two days after Google last fall, and Google investing in three advanced nuclear projects with Elementl Power last month, according to the report. The AP report adds that 25 states passed legislation supporting advanced nuclear energy last year, with over 200 nuclear-friendly bills introduced this year, per the Nuclear Energy Institute. However, the U.S. faces challenges in scaling nuclear production, with no next-generation reactors operating commercially and only two new large reactors built in nearly 50 years, completed significantly over budget and behind schedule in Georgia, the AP states. Two arrested for conning women through job scams
Chennai: The cyber crime unit of Greater Chennai Police arrested fraudsters involved in deceiving women through online part-time job scams and the "Google reviews" fraud at Washermenpet and Virugambakkam on Tuesday. The North Zone cyber crime unit arrested 39-year-old S Veeraraghavan from Thirunindravur based on a complaint from 27-year-old K Mohanapriya, a resident of New Washermenpet, who lost more than 4.5 lakh after investing in the scam. Mohanapriya was initially promised 200 for each screenshot she sent of YouTube videos shared in a Telegram group created for this purpose. Gradually, she invested more, paying a total of 4.5 lakh in 49 instalments. When she requested to withdraw her money along with the promised profits, she was asked to invest even more, which led her to file a police complaint. Tracing the bank accounts linked to Mohanapriya's payments, police arrested Veeraraghavan. However, to receive more assignments, victims are pressured to invest money with promises of high returns. In another case registered with the West Zone cyber crime unit, 27-year-old V Nagananthini of Virugambakkam lost 3.61 lakh from her savings after falling victim to a similar online part-time job scam. Police arrested P Selvam, 28, and S Saravanan, 29, from Thiruvannamalai for luring Nagananthini into the scam and cheating her. The accused in both cases were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Meta becomes latest big tech company turning to nuclear power for its AI needs
Washington: Meta has cut a 20-year deal to secure nuclear power to help meet surging demand for artificial intelligence and other computing needs at Facebook's parent company. The investment with Meta will also expand the output of a Constellation Energy Illinois nuclear plant. The agreement announced Tuesday is just the latest in a string of tech-nuclear partnerships as the use of AI expands. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. Constellation's Clinton Clean Energy Centre was actually slated to close in 2017 after years of financial losses but was saved by legislation in Illinois establishing a zero-emission credit program to support the plant into 2027. The Meta-Constellation deal takes effect in June of 2027, when the state's taxpayer funded zero-emission credit programme expires.
