Updated bracketology for LSU women's basketball after loss to Texas
LSU women's basketball was sent home from the SEC Tournament after falling to Texas in the SEC semi-finals. Now, the Tigers await their NCAA Tournament destination. The bracket will be announced on Sunday, March 16.
According to ESPN's Charlie Creme, the Tigers are still in position for a No. 2 seed. Creme has LSU hosting No. 15 Southeast Louisiana in the first-round. Also headed to Baton Rouge are Oklahoma State and Nebraska as the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds, respectively.
Per Creme, 10 teams from the SEC are in the field. The Big Ten leads with 12 projected teams in the field.
Creme has USC as the No. 1 seed in LSU's quarter of the bracket. Duke is the No. 3 seed and Baylor is the No. 4 seed. If Baylor managed to pull an upset, that could position LSU head coach Kim Mulkey against her former squad in the Elite Eight.
The No. 6 seed in LSU's quarter of the bracket is Iowa. That sets up another potential Tigers vs. Hawkeyes meeting in March, though it lacks the intrigue of the last two years with Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark in the WNBA.
LSU was without Flau'Jae Johnson in the SEC Tournament and star forward Aneesah Morrow left the game vs. Texas in the third quarter, but Mulkey expects LSU to be at full strength when the NCAA Tournament gets underway.
