11th Human Development Conference begins in Salalah

Salalah: The 11th edition of the Annual Human Development Conference officially opened today in the city of Salalah. Held under the patronage of His Highness the Governor of Dhofar, the two-day event is taking place at Millennium Resort Salalah and runs from 13 to 14 July 2025.
The conference is organised by Al-Assayel for Conferences, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, and supported by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Dhofar.
It brings together a wide range of participants, including senior officials, human resources professionals, education experts, and training specialists from both the public and private sectors.
This year's theme, 'Developing Human Capital Through Training and Qualification,' reflects Oman's growing emphasis on preparing its workforce for the future.
The forum highlights the strategic importance of investing in people and ensuring their skills match the evolving needs of the labour market. It aligns closely with the national priorities set out in Oman Vision 2040, which places human capital at the centre of economic and social development.
The programme includes high-level panel discussions and interactive workshops covering topics such as future skills development, leadership training, technology integration in learning, and case studies of successful talent initiatives from Oman and the wider region.
The conference targets a wide range of stakeholders. These include senior decision-makers from both government and private sector institutions, curriculum specialists from universities and schools, HR and training managers, talent development officers, professionals working across various economic sectors, student affairs coordinators, supervisors of youth and sports centres, as well as certified trainers and consultants in the field of capacity building.
In addition to fostering dialogue, the conference sets out clear goals. These include empowering individuals with the skills required in today's job market, improving the quality of education and training systems, supporting economic diversification by building a future-ready workforce, and strengthening collaboration between different institutions and sectors.
The event also aims to help individuals prepare for the demands of a rapidly changing work environment, while contributing to broader national objectives, including the implementation of Oman Vision 2040 and the sustainable development strategies of the GCC.

Pioneering initiative by Muriya in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College to empower Omani youth for careers in hospitality Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman – 17 August 2025 – Final preparations are underway for the launch of the new Hospitality Training Center at Hawana Salalah, a flagship initiative spearheaded by Muriya, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College. Set within Oman's largest fully integrated tourism destination, Hawana Salalah by Orascom Development and Omran Group, the new center aims to equip young Omanis with world-class skills and practical training that will enable them to succeed in the dynamic hospitality sector. Scheduled to open its doors in the coming weeks, the center is in the final stages of development, with training facilities and specialized curricula nearing completion. Soon, 100 carefully selected young Omanis will embark on an intensive hands-on program covering front office operations and culinary arts, followed by direct job placements at Hawana Salalah's world-class hotels and resorts. Stretching across 13.6 kilometers of pristine coastline in Dhofar, Hawana Salalah is Oman's largest integrated tourism destination. It features over 2,000 hotel rooms, a state-of-the-art marina with more than 170 berths, the first waterpark of its kind in Salalah, vibrant waterfront communities, branded residences, and hosts year-round international events including IRONMAN 70.3, the SOCCA World Cup, and the IGFA Fishing Championship. This unique offering positions Hawana Salalah as a catalyst for economic diversification, modern lifestyle development, and community empowerment. Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Dr. Mahad Said Baawain, Minister of Labour in the Sultanate of Oman, said: 'This initiative is a successful example of what can be achieved through strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. By creating tangible job opportunities, enhancing skills, and supporting national programs for economic diversification, we are empowering the Omani workforce to thrive.' Highlighting Muriya's role, Eng. SALALAH: Nama Dhofar Services has completed awarding all tenders to connect rural areas powered by diesel generation plants to the main electricity grid in Dhofar Governorate, in a move seen as a major milestone toward Oman's Net Zero 2050 target. The initiative, announced by Chief Operations Officer Imad Said Ausanajali, forms part of a broader strategy to phase out diesel-fuelled generation and cut carbon emissions. The projects are expected to improve service reliability and ensure safe, sustainable power supply for local communities. 'This milestone marks a major step in our journey toward reducing carbon emissions, enhancing reliability and service quality, and ensuring sustainable energy access,' Ausanajali said. By shifting rural supply to the national grid, the company is advancing sustainability goals while reducing reliance on costly diesel fuel. The move also supports Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises cleaner energy and long-term environmental stewardship. Dhofar has relied on small-scale diesel power stations for remote areas for decades. Integrating these communities into the main grid will not only lower emissions but also provide more stable electricity to support local development.

OSHRM opens 5th HR Forum in Salalah on ‘Leading from the Heart'

Salalah: The Oman Society for Human Resource Management (OSHRM), in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, today opened the 5th Annual Human Resource Forum in Salalah under the theme 'Leading from the Heart – The Power of Emotional and Social Intelligence in Communities.' The two-day forum at Millennium Hotel Salalah gathers senior leaders, experts and practitioners in management and organisational development. Organisers said the forum promotes human-centred leadership that empowers people, inspires teams and lifts productivity—aligning with Oman Vision 2040 objectives to develop national talent and enhance institutional competitiveness. The opening featured welcome remarks by OSHRM CEO Faisal Al-Siyabi, followed by a keynote from Her Highness Sayyida Meyyan bint Shihab Al Said, who underscored the value of values-based leadership in driving sustainable development and helping institutions adapt to change. Day One sessions included: • 'When Decisions Differ and Conflicts Arise' by Shaikha Al-Bassamiya. • 'From Content to Inspiration' by Abdullah Al-Rawahi. • A panel on 'Transforming Towards Value-Driven Leadership,' featuring Sheikh Abdullah Al-Rawasi and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zuwed Al-Ma'shari. The forum also honoured Dr Saleh Al-Fahdi for his contributions to leadership thought. Working papers explored emotional intelligence and human behaviour, enabling teams and organisational cohesion, and 'the magic of strategic planning.' A practical session, 'Maximising Personal Impact,' introduced tools such as the Pareto 80/20 principle and the DISC behavioural model. 'We're in Salalah to spotlight leadership from the heart—how emotional and social intelligence help leaders succeed and organisations thrive,' said Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Rayami, OSHRM board member. 'This edition also showcases journeys of employees with disabilities who advanced into leadership roles—practical lessons others can adapt.' Organisers positioned the forum as a strategic platform to translate 'leading from the heart' into actionable HR practices that build capability and support the Sultanate's development priorities.
