American tourist explains why the heat feels so much more intense in the UK than the U.S.
An American tourist visiting the UK has admitted that British weather 'feels different' and the heat is more severe.
Content creator Kalani Ghost Hunter, from Tennessee, has spent months travelling around the UK in a bid to immerse himself in the culture - from sampling afternoon teas to attempting to find the best chippy (a fish-and-chip shop).
The UK is currently experiencing a heatwave, with the nation this week set to reach temperatures of 86°F (30°C).
Americans have been known to poke fun at Brits who complain about the weather with some calling them 'dramatic' and claiming they wouldn't 'survive in the U.S.' - where the temperatures are generally much hotter.
Kalani admitted that although he had 'doubted' Brits at first, he now believes the heat in the UK 'feels different' - and he doesn't know how people 'survive' without air con.
He told his TikTok page: 'I always thought British people were lying when they were saying how hot it gets here but for some reason, it feels like you're melting.
'It honestly feels like my b****cks are sweating out of my pants. Every time I walk somewhere I have sweaty balls.
'I know it gets hotter at home and the humidity is just as bad at home but for some reason walking in these streets and walking into my hotel room it feels like I'm in a f***ing sauna.'
Kalani - who has 3.2 million followers on TikTok - said he simply does not know how Brits cope in the blistering temperatures without having air con their homes or at work - as is commonly in the U.S.
He added: 'I know you don't need it all year around but let me tell you at home, I get that nice relief from going into some cold air.
'Here, it's just misery everywhere and you wonder why Brits complain about the weather so much, it's because it can be f***ing miserable.'
Throughout his time in the UK, Kalani has found that it's easy to strike up a conversation with almost any Brit, simply by mentioning the weather.
He gave some advice to tourists, adding: 'Honestly, if you want the best small talk with a Brit, just look around and start talking about the weather. It's the easiest way to start a conversation with someone here - it's a British pastime.
'I never knew why until I came over here and experienced how s*** this weather can actually be.'
Kalani's clip racked up 1.7 million views on TikTok in less than a day with thousands of comments from Brits who felt validated.
One wrote: 'Wait till you try and sleep with no ac on Thursday night when it hits 28.'
Vindication: Kalani's clip led to thousands of comments from Brits who felt validated
A third said: 'When we say "It's a different kind of heat", we mean it!'

Brixham sea pool set to reopen after issues with the tide
An outdoor pool is set to reopen this weekend after bosses were forced to shut the attraction because high tides failed to refill Pool in Brixham, south Devon, relies on the tide for its water. But this week's calm sea conditions meant the water did not travel high Thomas, operations manager, said: "We had a pool clean on Monday, but the tide didn't come over as expected. "To address this, we've installed a sea pump to fill the pool at high tide and we're working hard to ensure the pool is ready for the weekend." Shoalstone Pool, operated by a charity, remains free for public use. The attraction will undergo significant renovations later this summer. "We'll be closing the pool in August for essential upgrades," Mr Thomas said. "Thanks to a government grant, we'll be installing a new deep end, a raised deck, replacing railings, and reinforcing the walls to ensure safety for future generations."

EXCLUSIVE Revealed: The UK's best BBQ spots this summer... does your town make the cut?
Newcastle has been revealed as the best place in the UK for a BBQ this summer. The latest findings come as Britain's temperature is set to soar into the 30s this weekend, with an amber heat-health alert being issued earlier today. London boroughs nabbed nearly half of the top 10 places to get a grill going, with Camden, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, Newham and Merton all making the cut, according to new data. North and South Tyneside were also strong contenders while locations in the South East like Epsom and Ewell, Hastings and Runnymede were the other top choices for a cookout. These ideal BBQ spots were decided after taking factors like green space access, temperatures, sunshine, rainfall and wind during the summer months into account. Areas in the South East benefit from more sunshine and less rain on average - crucial for a good grill - while the other top spots scored well in their relation to access to public parks. Tower Hamlets recorded the highest number of parks in a 1,000m radius, with 12 parks within walking distance of the centre. Locals could also enjoy the shortest journey to a green space at just 209 metres, though individual parks tended to be on the smaller side. 'What's particularly interesting is how the North East region performs strongly, with three locations in the top 10. 'This challenges the common perception that the south of England always offers the best outdoor summer experience. 'With average maximum temperatures above 27C during summer, these areas actually record higher peak temperatures than many southern locations, while still maintaining moderate wind speeds around 17.7mph.' On the other end of the grilling spectrum, places you might want to avoid setting up for a 'brai' include locations in Scotland, Wales and the South West. The Isles of Scilly, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Cornwall all scored poorly - which may come as a surprise - mostly due to the strong winds that could make an outdoor meal take a bit of a battering. And while many of them are arguably more scenic then a sprawling metropolis, they were all far from a park or public garden. 'Wind speed emerges as a critical factor for BBQ success,' Mr Porcar said. The perfect BBQ spot required 'a balance of factors', he added. 'While weather is obviously important, having accessible green spaces nearby is equally necessary.' The study analysed 371 local authorities across the UK, ranking each based on eight key factors which was then scaled and weighted equally to produce a final score out of 100. This latest data comes after the UK has seen the mercury steadily rising into the late twenties - perfect for getting a grill going. Today, thermometers reached 30.1C (86.2F) by 1pm at St James's Park in London – making it the first day in 2025 to reach 30C and the hottest day of the year so far - and looked set to rise further to 32C (90F) this afternoon. There are expected similar highs tomorrow and 34C (93F) predicted for Saturday. Earlier, the Government's UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) activated a five-day alert from midday today until Monday morning amid concerns that the heat could cause 'a rise in deaths, particularly among those ages 65 and over or with health conditions'. Two women walk in the sunshine at St James's Park in London today as the heat continues A woman sunbathes near the fountains at Battersea Park in South West London today The warning said 'significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures' along with 'increased demand for power exceeding capacity' and 'heat affecting the ability of the workforce to deliver services'. The UKHSA has previously placed most of England apart from the North under a lesser yellow heat-health until Sunday evening, but this has now been upgraded. It is the first amber heat-health alert to be issued for two years since September 2023. The heatwave is likely to officially end after Saturday, but the weather from Sunday into the middle of next week will stay warm with a range of 24C (75F) to 26C (79F). Mum calls for water safety education in schools after son's death
The mother of one of the two children who drowned off Bournemouth beach has called for water safety to be taught in Abbess's 17-year-old son Joe died on the same day as 12-year-old Sunnah Khan in May Mrs Abbess listened to a backbench debate led by Southampton Itchen's Labour MP Darren Paffey about water Minister for School Standards Catherine McKinnell said the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill "will once implemented extend the requirement to teach swimming and water safety to all state-funded schools". "We will never know what water safety advice Joe knew," Mrs Abbess told the BBC. Joe, from Southampton, and Sunnah, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, were dragged out to sea by a rip current that witnesses described as going "from zero to absolute chaos with no warning".Eight other people were rescued by paramedics, and Mrs Abbess said she did not know that rip currents "were a thing around the British coast.""They are ferocious and they are dangerous and people need to be aware," she added. Water safety is only a mandatory part of the curriculum for PE at primary school, something Mrs Abbess said she wanted to see widened ahead of the parliamentary said if Joe had survived he would want to tell people about water dangers."If this can get into schools through education and on the national curriculum for all children in England that will feel like something in Joe's name, in Sunnah's name, in the other children that have died," she said."Ultimately, it will be a glimmer of hope for those bereaved families in the darkness."Speaking before the debate, Mr Paffey said Scotland and Wales had a minister with responsibility for water safety."I'm asking the government to appoint one for England too," he added.
