FRENCH cops paraded around in a buggy paid for by the UK — as dinghy migrants set sail.
On yet another shambolic day, the number of arrivals here hit a record 20,000 since the start of 2025.

Critics said £500million of taxpayer cash given to France had only turned its beaches into 'the world's most expensive sieve'.
Patrols with jeeps, quad bikes and drones were pictured on the sand yesterday as smugglers prepared to launch more dinghies.
On Monday alone, 879 reached British shores, the third biggest daily total in 2025.
We saw patrols at Gravelines near Dunkirk, and Équihen, west of Calais.
The crisis is now 48 per cent worse than this time last year and 75 per cent higher than in 2023, according to Home Office figures.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said: 'Record numbers of young undocumented males have crossed this year thanks to French beaches being the world's most expensive sieve — this is a disaster for the country.
'They are costing us money, making us less safe, and they bring a terrorist threat.
'This will only get worse under the weakest Prime Minister I have ever seen.'
PM Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are due to meet in London next week for a State visit and a summit focused on tackling the crossings.
The UK first signed a deal with France under the last Tory government, with nearly £500million committed to extra patrols, surveillance drones, vehicles and riot vans.

Sir Keir has extended the commitment.
The leaders are also preparing to unveil a new 'one in, one out' migrant returns deal — sending some Channel arrivals to France in exchange for Britain accepting migrants with family reunion rights.
But the Tories have branded the plan a 'fantasy' and demanded their Rwanda scheme be reinstated.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: 'One year into Labour's government and the boats haven't stopped, they've multiplied.
'It's become a free-for-all.
'We need a removals deterrent so every single illegal immigrant who arrives is removed outside Europe.
'The crossings will then rapidly stop.'
Sir Keir has faced pressure to deliver on his promise to 'smash the gangs' fuelling the crisis.

But Downing Street insisted it will take time to solve it, warning 'it's not simple' to dismantle international smuggling networks.
The PM's spokesman said the figures were 'clearly unacceptable', adding: 'But let's be clear, gangs have been allowed to embed industrial-scale smuggling enterprises across Europe, whilst our own asylum system collapsed through failed policies like Rwanda.

'But we are taking action.'
The spokesman pointed to arrests of gang leaders, thousands of boat seizures, and closer ties with France.

Encrochat: Newtownabbey cocaine dealer jailed for eight years

A drug dealer who used the encrypted communications platform EncroChat to smuggle large quantities of cocaine into Northern Ireland has been jailed for eight Patton, 40, from Dorchester Avenue in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, admitted offences, including conspiring to possess cocaine, fraudulently importing the drug and having cocaine with intent to supply also admitted a charge of possessing criminal property, namely £250,000 in at Londonderry Crown Court on Wednesday, a judge said Patton had been operating on a "commercial scale". Judge Neil Rafferty added: "The defendant in this case was centrally involved in the organisation, supervision and control of the importation of significant commercial quantities of cocaine."The court in Derry was told he had committed the offences on dates March and April judge said the Encrochat mobile network was advertised as a highly-encrypted and secure platform, providing a secure means of communication between individuals using the and Dutch police penetrated the Encrochat network and shared with international police forces in 2020.A number of cases are currently being progressed through the year, a self-confessed drug dealer from County Antrim was one of the first to be sentenced in Northern Ireland for offences linked with EncroChat. 'Significant number of people worldwide' Judge Rafferty added: "French police gained access to the network and thereby access to the communications between a very significant number of people worldwide. "Thereafter, the information captured was geolocated and provided to law enforcement bodies."The judge said that, in the UK, the National Crime Agency had been the central agency which received the material. "Each Encrochat user had a different username," he said."In this case the username attributed to the defendant is 'massive-movers'." Patton is currently serving a a 32-month, handed down in March last year at Belfast Crown Court, after he admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply. 'Buy a cash counting machine' Patton, the court was told, had contacts in Panama, Columbia, Spain, the Netherlands, Ecuador and message exchanged between Patton and another Encrochat user referred to the delivery of fifteen bits or tops of cocaine at £45,000 exchange also referred to the bits and tops being collected at junction 17, M1 in the Dundalk area in the Republic of another exchange a user told Patton that he should buy a cash-counting machine. Judge Rafferty said a pre-sentence report compiled by a probation officer stated that Patton "has struggled to come to terms" with the harm his offending has caused to Rafferty said the messages showed Patton "fulfilled a command and control capacity to move multi-kilo consignments of cocaine."I am satisfied that in this case the defendant's use of the Encrochat network was to facilitate and conceal commercial scale drugs criminality."

Migrants being 'whipped' onto dinghies amid record 20,000 Channel crossings

Video has emerged of a trafficker whipping migrants onto a boat, after it was confirmed that 20,422 people made the crossing in 2025 so far. The 20,000 figure was exceeded in record time, with some 440 people making the crossing across the English Channel yesterday alone. Figures from the Home Office found this is up 50% on this point last year and 79% higher than at this stage in 2023. It is the earliest point in a calendar year at which the 20,000 mark has been passed since data on Channel crossings was first reported in 2018. The first year in which at least 20,000 arrivals were recorded was 2022, when the milestone was passed on August 14, and the total went on to hit a record 45,774 by the end of December. The figures come as ministers continue to grapple with Channel crossings, with the situation on French shores worsening. What appeared to be a measure of harsh crowd control, to prevent the 30-foot rubber boat from capsizing, a people smuggler's assistant in the water repeatedly whipped migrants with a cane if they tried to climb on too fast. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video He was seen furiously beating the terrified migrants who were scrambling to avoid the lashings, but could not afford to be left behind. The Government's Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill is continuing through Parliament, and will hand counterterror-style powers to police and introduce new criminal offences to crack down on people-smuggling gangs. It has been reported that the UK and France are agreeing on a one in, one out migrant returns deal, under which migrants who arrive in the UK by small boats are returned to France, in exchange for the UK accepting those with legitimate claims to join family already in the country. French officials have also agreed to changes that would allow police patrolling the coast to take action in the sea when migrants climb into boats from the water, which is yet to come into effect. Days ago, it was revealed that migrants could soon be deported to France from the UK in a 'one in one out' deal. More Trending The deal could see migrants who arrive in the UK by crossing the English Channel in small boats returned to France, but the UK would accept those with legitimate claims to join family already in the country. The government previously vowed to crack down on people smuggling gangs across the Channel, while crossings are at a record high for this point in the year, totalling 18,518. French officials have also agreed to changes that would allow police patrolling the coast to take action in the sea when migrants climb into boats from the water. Under the new returns deal, a joint processing system between the UK and France would be set up to identify migrants who have a valid claim for family reunification in the UK. No 10 says Starmer backs Reeves after Chancellor's tears in Commons

The Chancellor was visibly tearful in the Commons, as her position came under intense scrutiny after the welfare U-turn which put an almost £5 billion black hole in her plans. But allies said she was dealing with a 'personal matter' and No 10 said she had Sir Keir's 'full backing'. Sir Keir, who stumbled on his way out of Downing Street for Prime Minister's Questions, faced questions over his handling of a welfare reform package which has been stripped of key elements to limit the scale of a Labour revolt. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said Ms Reeves looked 'absolutely miserable' and challenged the Prime Minister to say whether she would keep her job until the next election. Sir Keir dodged the question about whether Ms Reeves would be in place for the remainder of the Parliament, saying Mrs Badenoch 'certainly won't'. Changes to restrict eligibility for the personal independence payment (Pip) were abandoned on Tuesday just 90 minutes before MPs voted on them, wiping out the savings that Ms Reeves had counted on to help meet her goal of funding day-to-day spending through tax receipts rather than borrowing. Mrs Badenoch said: 'Today the Prime Minister refused to back his Chancellor, leaving her humiliated. 'She is the human shield for his expensive U-turns. How can anyone be a chancellor for a man who doesn't know what he believes and who changes his mind every other minute?' As the Chancellor left the Commons after Prime Minister's Questions her sister, Ellie Reeves, took her hand in an apparent show of support. Asked about her tears, a spokesman for the Chancellor said: 'It's a personal matter which, as you would expect, we are not going to get into. 'The Chancellor will be working out of Downing Street this afternoon.' Reports suggested Ms Reeves had been involved in an altercation with Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle shortly before Prime Minister's Questions. A spokeswoman for the Speaker said: 'No comment.' Asked why Sir Keir did not confirm in the Commons that he still had faith in Ms Reeves, the Prime Minister's press secretary told reporters: 'He has done so repeatedly. Govt was planning to save ~£5bn in 2029-30 through welfare cuts – would have risen to ~£11bn in long run Now, govt will save nothing this parliament (2029-30 savings from cutting health element of UC (£1.7bn) roughly offsets cost of raising basic UC (£1.8bn)) — Helen Miller (@HelenMiller_IFS) July 2, 2025 'The Chancellor is going nowhere. She has the Prime Minister's full backing. 'He has said it plenty of times, he doesn't need to repeat it every time the Leader of the Opposition speculates about Labour politicians.' Asked whether the Prime Minister still had confidence in Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall, the press secretary said: 'Yes.' Labour has promised that income tax, employee national insurance contributions and VAT will not be increased, restricting Ms Reeves' options for raising money if she does look to hike taxes. The Institute for Fiscal Studies' incoming director, Helen Miller, said: 'Since departmental spending plans are now effectively locked in, and the Government has already had to row back on planned cuts to pensioner benefits and working-age benefits, tax rises would look increasingly likely. 'This will doubtless intensify the speculation over the summer about which taxes may rise and by how much.' Sir Keir declined to rule out tax rises later this year, telling MPs: 'No prime minister or chancellor ever stands at the despatch box and writes budgets in the future.'
