GOULBURN INSIDE MAIL
TWINKLING STAR (5) was just beaten by Fast Track at Kembla and followed with a third to Super Nui at Hawkesbury before a short break. Didn't handle the heavy track when returning with sixth at Wyong. ZO FRILLING (6) worked home from last when third to Inoue at Gosford before a third to Mother Goose at Kembla. LORD VETTORI (1) was good in third behind Imperial State first-up before a well-beaten seventh on a Soft 7 at Wyong. Better effort for second at Dubbo last start.
BET: TWINKLING STAR to win.
TACT (1) led all the way to beat Shangri La Impact over 1400m second-up at Kembla before heading to Wagga for MTC Guineas where he finished a length-and-a-half fifth to Dupli Kate. TOKYO QUEEN (3) was held up for clear running early in the straight when sixth to Dance Dance Dance on debut at Newcastle on Feb 18. Returned 17 days later where she sat outside the leader and fought hard to hold out Literature Tycoon. ANNOINT (5) battled away for second to Cosmeena here last start.
BET: TACT to win.
SIGNOR TORTONI (3) is from a stakes-producing half-sister to the champion Tie The Knot. Raced well in his first campaign with a close fourth to Crepe Myrtle on debut at Randwick before second placings to Gatekeeper and The Enchanter both at Canterbury. Resumes here off a smart Randwick trial win. LONDON BOY (1) debuted with a third to Honey Perfume after racing three-wide. Raced four-wide when runner-up to Let's Go Brandon here last start. Should get a better run from a good draw. OCTA DE LAGO (2) has trialled well ahead of his debut.
BET: SIGNOR TORTONI to win.
READY TO ROCKET (4) made a winning start to his career when he powered home from well back on the corner to beat Veravino over 1100m at Hawkesbury last November. Battled away when third to Moonlight Gambler at Kembla first-up. Inconvenienced late when third to Let's Go Again there last start. SHOUTABOUTIT (6) ran well first-up at Port Macquarie after just one trial. Handy effort when second to Formal at Wyong last start. YES SIREE (1) defied a big betting drift from $1.80 to $3.10 to beat Step Quick on a Heavy 10.
BET: READY TO ROCKET to win.
SHANGRI LA IMPACT (5) was beaten a nose by Tact over 1400m on debut at Kembla before a neck second to Dark Arts in a 1550m Canterbury Super Maiden. Stepped up to 2000m and broke his maiden in beating Tommy Thug in a Class 1 at Hawkesbury. Hard to beat again. TAJWAAL (1) scored a big win at Taree before placings at his three runs since. Will be prominent again. WHISKER TO WHISKER (6) was a handy third to Existential Bob at Wyong last start.
BET: SHANGRI LA IMPACT to win.
THE BEAST (3) ended last campaign with a second at Hawkesbury and a length third to Sounds Unusual over 1900m at Canterbury. Resumed with a third to Mille De Lune at Newcastle after racing wide for the first 600m. BARBRAY (1) was a handy third to Full Hao at Hawkesbury second-up. Was fractious in the gates and was a little slow away when fourth to Dark Arts at Canterbury. Barrier blanket goes on. DWAYNE (2) has placed three from four at the provincials and was a two length fifth at Warwick Farm.
BET: THE BEAST each-way.
CATHEDRAL COVE (10) is knocking on the door after placings in each of his four runs this preparation. Was beaten a nose as a $1.70 fab by Egyptian's Reward over this rip at Kembla last start. PURPLE HAZE (2) will take improvement from his debut experience when third behind Yes Sireee on a Heavy 10 over 1000m at Wyong. He was chasing a fair way out and looks suited stepping up to 1300m. JARED (5) resumes here. Has placed runner-up twice first-up and won't be far away.
SUPERHERO (1) raced fourth without cover and made up ground to finish a length behind Let's Go Again who led all the way when resuming at Kembla on May 6. It was a heavy track and he carried 60kg. Same weight here but will be fitter. GORBACHEV (3) scored a narrow win from Alpine Ski in a Gosford Super Maiden first-up before a length sixth to Puerto Banus in a BM64 at Wyong. Back to a Class 1 here. TRUE AMOR (6) will take improvement from his first-up fourth behind Secure at Warwick Farm on May 7.

$8000 filly earns shot at Stradbroke Handicap with Fred Best Classic win
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Stradbroke Handicap has its latest rags to riches fairytale … and she walks like a duck. Three-year-old filly Spicy Martini, who was snapped up for a barely believable price of just $8000 as a yearling by Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds, surged into Queensland's most prestigious race by scoring the Fred Best Classic at Doomben on Wednesday. Spicy Martini went through an online sale and was sold at a bargain-basement rate because of concerns over her X-rays, despite being a daughter of US champion Justify. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! But Toby Edmonds backed his judgement and secured the filly for a fraction of Justify's $250,000 yearling sales average at the time. Spicy Martini now has a shot at the $1.8m first prize of the Group 1 Stradbroke at Eagle Farm on Saturday week, with her win in the Fred Best earning her a golden ticket into Queensland's most prestigious race. Edmonds has won the Stradbroke before, snaring his first Group 1 when Tyzone claimed the 2020 edition although that was a vastly different race with Covid restrictions playing their part. Toby Edmonds trained the 2020 Stradbroke winner with his son Trent but now Toby and new training partner Stephen McLean have a shot at claiming Queensland racing's biggest prize. Spicy Martini's Stradbroke odds were slashed from $101 to $21 after her Fred Best win and the filly will carry the featherweight of just 49.5kg. Spicy Martini will need a new jockey with Craig Williams unable to make 49.5kg but that was the least of Edmonds' worries on Wednesday as he was overcome with emotion. 'If you have a look at her, she walks like a duck,' Edmonds said. 'She has quite a few issues and takes a lot of managing, but she is very quick. 'We found her online, a Justify filly, which we generally weren't able to buy because they were too dear, but this one just came up. 'This one was one that (breeding giants) Coolmore couldn't put through the sales. 'She is workmanlike, there's nothing flash about her at all. 'She is honest, she is in the Stradbroke now with 49.5 (kg) and I'm very keen to run her as long as she pulls up well.' The Fred Best for three-year-olds was rescheduled from last Saturday when an Eagle Farm downpour and poor visibility caused several races to be called off. Champion jockey Williams said the rescheduling of the race added to the stature of the win. He predicted Spicy Martini would make her presence felt in the Stradbroke. Craig Williams with trainer Toby Edmonds after the win of Spicy Martini. Picture: Trackside Photography 'Everyone that was in this race today had the challenge of being there last Saturday but coming back today,' Williams said. 'It's a great intuitive by Racing Queensland to have this race exempt from ballot from the Stradbroke. 'Toby and his team now have 10 days to get this filly to the Stradbroke in good form. 'Toby asked if I could ride at 49.5 (kg), I said I could have when I was 18 but I can't now.' There had been strong late money for Spicy Martini in the Fred Best, backed from $15 into $10. Bosustow, who won the Gold Coast Guineas by six lengths at his previous start, finished a disappointing sixth after appearing to have every chance. Annabel and Rob Archibald's Queensland stable foreman Todd Pollard said there were no post-race issues found with the colt. Bosustow eased from $9 to $21 in Stradbroke betting and now connections must decide whether to tackle the Stradbroke. Exciting Lindsay Park galloper War Machine firmed even further as Stradbroke top pick on Wednesday without even racing, now a $3 favourite after starting the day at $4. Queensland legend Gorden Tallis calls out Blues enforcer Spencer Leniu
Maroons legend Gorden Tallis has called out Blues bench enforcer Spencer Leniu for coming on 'after all the tough stuff is done'. Tallis dared NSW to pick Leniu as injured prop Mitch Barnett's replacement in the starting side for Game 2 and play him for 80 minutes. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer > It comes in the wake of Queensland controversially not kicking off to Leniu in the series opener to avoid having to tackle the fresh front-rower charging off the back fence. That was after the state's biggest newspaper, The Courier Mail, ran a back page photo of Leniu the day before the game with the headline 'Smash this Blues Grub'. 'I think Spencer Leniu should start and play 80 minutes,' Tallis said on NRL 360 on Wednesday night, which prompted chuckles from his fellow panellists. 'What, can't he play 80 minutes?' 'Will they kick off to him?' James Hooper fired back. Tallis replied: 'Yeah absolutely. If he comes on and starts with those guys in the middle, I'm sure you'd kick to him. '(Instead he) comes on after all the tough stuff is done, after 25 minutes. Start him and play him 80 minutes.' 'You're suggesting he ducks the hard stuff,' Dave Riccio said. 'I never said that. What's so hard? The game goes for 80 minutes,' Tallis responded. 'Why would he play 80 minutes?' Braith Anasta asked. 'Because that's how long the game goes for,' Tallis said. 'If you guys didn't duck the hard stuff you would have kicked the ball to him. What front-rower in the game plays 80 minutes?' Hooper said. 'Payne Haas does. Don't bag your own teammates,' Tallis said sarcastically. 'I'd pick him and play him 80 minutes but all of you three said he can't. They've got no faith in you, Spencer.' 'You're suggesting he's not tough enough,' Riccio said. 'It's only 80 minutes,' Tallis reiterated. 'But he's only playing 25 off the bench,' Riccio replied. 'Oh right, cool,' Tallis said again sarcastically. The Courier Mail headline came six weeks after Leniu's verbal spat with Maroons legend Johnathan Thurston at Suncorp Stadium, the same venue that hosted Game 1. Leniu's hostility centred around Thurston's comments on the Roosters hard man's eight-game ban for calling Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam a 'monkey' in Round 1 last year. Mam was then suspended for nine games this season after being responsible for a drug-driving car crash that injured several people.
