'I don't think it's going to be a problem, to be honest with you. I think Putin is tired of it. I think they're all tired of it, but you never know,' Trump said in an interview with the Fox News Fox & Friends programme.
Trump spoke the day after hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders at the White House for talks on his peace efforts, a meeting that followed his summit with Putin in Alaska last Friday.
'We're going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks … It's possible that he doesn't want to make a deal,' Trump said, adding that Putin faced a 'rough situation' if that were not the case.
After Monday's talks, Trump had said that he had called Putin to help set up a one-on-one meeting between Putin and Zelensky that would be followed by a trilateral meeting to include himself.
Trump said in the Fox News interview he thought relations between Putin and Zelensky might be 'a little bit better' or else he would not have pursued their one-on-one meeting.

North Korea brands South ‘faithful dog' of US, says reunification ‘will never' happen
The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said her country would never see South Korea as a partner for diplomacy, state media reported on Wednesday in what was her latest taunt of Seoul's new efforts to mend ties. Advertisement Kim Yo-jong, who is one of her brother's top foreign policy officials, denounced the ongoing South Korea-US military drills as a 'reckless' invasion rehearsal and claimed Seoul's peace gestures conceal a 'sinister intention' against Pyongyang. Her comments came during a meeting on Tuesday with senior Foreign Ministry officials about her brother's diplomatic strategies in the face of persistent threats from rivals and a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape, the North's official Korean Central News Agency said. On Monday, the North Korean leader condemned the South Korean–US military drills and vowed a rapid expansion of his nuclear forces as he inspected his most advanced warship being fitted with nuclear-capable systems. US, Nato planners start to craft Ukraine security guarantee options
US and European military planners have begun exploring post-conflict security guarantees for Ukraine, US officials and sources said on Tuesday, following US President Donald Trump's pledge to help protect the country under any deal to end Russia's war. Ukraine and its European allies have been buoyed by Trump's promise during a summit on Monday of security guarantees for Kyiv, but many questions remain unanswered. Officials told Reuters that the Pentagon is carrying out planning exercises on the support Washington could offer beyond providing weapons. But they cautioned that it would take time for US and European planners to determine what would be both militarily feasible and acceptable to the Kremlin. One option was sending European forces to Ukraine but putting the US in charge of their command and control, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. The sources added that the troops would not be under a Nato banner but would operate under their own nations' flags. The Pentagon and Nato did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the idea.

US Justice Dept probes whether Washington police falsified crime data
The US Justice Department has opened an investigation into whether police officials in Washington have falsified data to make crime rates appear lower than they are, according to two people familiar with the investigation who were not authorised to publicly discuss an open investigation. Advertisement The investigation comes amid an escalating – and political – showdown between the Trump administration and the city over control of the police department. It was not immediately clear which federal laws could have been violated by the possible manipulation of crime data. US President Donald Trump has claimed that violent crime in Washington is getting worse as he ordered a federal takeover of the city's police department, flooding the streets with hundreds of National Guard members But he exaggerated or misstated many facts about public safety in Washington, where crime rates have fallen in recent years. Advertisement Mayor Muriel Bowser's office declined to comment on the investigation. A spokesperson for US Attorney Jeannine Pirro's office in Washington did not respond to emails seeking comment.
