‘Thought it was firecrackers': Witness recalls 10 shots before panic erupted in Brickfields restaurant
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — A witness to a shooting at a restaurant on Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, last night claimed she heard about 10 gunshots during the incident.
According to Harian Metro, the witness, Letchumi, said the shooting occurred between 10.30pm and 10.50pm while she was speaking with a customer at her salon located on the upper floor of the building above the restaurant.
'I was outside the shop, on the upper-level walkway, when I suddenly heard loud noises — like explosions.
'At first, I thought someone was setting off firecrackers, but I couldn't think of any festival.
'When I looked down, I saw people hiding under tables. That's when I knew something serious had happened,' she reportedly told the national daily.
She said panic soon broke out, with people running in all directions to escape. Some ran into her salon to take shelter, as most of the other nearby shops were already closed.
'Some rushed upstairs, so I called them into the shop to shelter with my customer, who was terrified.
'I called the police. I didn't see the gunman, but I saw one of the victims trying to run.
'I believe he had already been shot and was trying to escape. By the time police arrived, the gunman had fled,' she was quoted as saying.
She added that this was the first such incident in the area, which is usually calm late into the night.
Last night, three men were shot while dining at the restaurant, with one killed and two others injured.
The shooting took place at around 10.50pm. The three victims, all Malaysians aged between 30 and 50, were eating with friends when two men on a motorcycle approached and opened fire.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman said investigations are ongoing, including reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to determine the motive and identify those involved.
'We are confident the suspects will be identified soon. The public should not be alarmed by this incident.
'The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police or the nearest police station,' he reportedly said.

MACC chief Azam Baki had previously said Ling was a witness in a money laundering investigation.

Lawyer urges police to release CCTV of Pamela Ling's abduction as probe hits wall
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — The lawyer representing Datin Pamela Ling, who was abducted more than two months ago, has urged police to make public the CCTV footage and images of her kidnappers in a bid to revive the stalled investigation. Lawyer N. Sivananthan expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in the case, revealing that police had informed him last week they still had no leads. 'It's very frustrating, they have told me they have no leads whatsoever towards locating her or finding out what happened to her,' Sivananthan told Malaysiakini today. He said it was difficult to understand why police were still withholding footage and visuals of the abduction, which took place on April 9 near the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya. 'At this stage, I don't understand why the police can't release the images to ask the public whether anyone can recognise them. 'What have they got to lose at this stage?' he added. Ling was in a Grab vehicle heading to meet anti-graft investigators when the car was intercepted by five other vehicles just as it neared the MACC premises. At a press conference on May 8, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed investigators had retrieved CCTV recordings of the incident. He said the footage suggested that at least eight individuals were involved in the abduction, including two men seen wearing police vests. Police believe the suspects were impersonating law enforcement personnel. A photofit of one of the suspects was also produced, but according to Rusdi, its low resolution rendered it of little use. Police had arrested Ling's husband Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu in connection with the case, but he was released the next day after the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court denied their request for a remand order. The Kuala Lumpur police have yet to respond to queries on whether they intend to release images of the suspects to the public.

Shooting in Bali villa leaves Australian man dead, another fighting for life
DENPASAR, June 14 — An Australian man was shot dead and another one was wounded in a shooting at their villa on the popular Indonesian resort island of Bali early Saturday, according to police who were hunting for two suspects. Local police chief Arif Batubara said in a statement that two men came to the victims' villa in the popular tourist hub of Badung district just after midnight, stormed inside, and shot the victims. 'We still don't know the motive of the attack,' Arif said. The dead victim was Zivan Radmanovic, 32, while the other man, Sanar Ghanim, 34, was seriously wounded and had been taken to hospital, Arif said. 'We are currently investigating the scene to find out the motive of this attack,' he said. Arif said, according to witnesses including Radmanovic's wife, the perpetrators who fled the scene after the attack were speaking in English with a thick Australian accent.
