Aeroflot cancels over 40 flights after tech failure sparks airport chaos
The national carrier did not provide further details about the cause of the problem or how long it would take to resolve.
Since Russia launched the warin Ukraine in February 2022, travellers in Russia have become accustomed to flight disruptions. However, those delays have usually been caused by temporary airport closures after drone attacks.
Aeroflot said that 'specialists are currently working to minimize the impact on the flight schedule and to restore normal service operations'.
On Telegram, it listed more than 40 cancelled flights to destinations across Russia, as well as to the Belarusian capital Minsk and the Armenian capital Yerevan.
Aeroflot urged passengers whose flights from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport had been cancelled to retrieve their checked-in luggage and leave.
News outlet Baza reported scenes of chaos at the airport, with logjams forming as passengers queued just to get out.
Aeroflot, which despite sanctions imposed on Russia for its war in Ukraine that have drastically limited travel and routes, remains among the top 20 airlines worldwide by passenger numbers.
In 2024, passenger traffic of the Aeroflot Group reached 55.3 million passengers, according to a statement on the airline's website. — Reuters

Microsoft launches AI-based Copilot Mode in Edge browser

Copilot Mode can help carry out tasks, organize browsing into topic-based queries and compare results across all open tabs without requiring users to switch between them, Microsoft said. The update comes at a time when tech companies have rolled out several AI-powered online search tools. Nvidia-backed startup Perplexity AI launched its Comet browser earlier this month, while Reuters reported on OpenAI's upcoming AI browser. Rival Alphabet earlier this year launched "AI Mode", an AI-only search feature on Google, and last week reported improvements in user engagement on such features. Microsoft said, under the new feature, users will see a page with a single input box combining chat, search and web navigation features. Copilot will also support voice navigation for browsing in Edge, the company added. The users will also soon be able to give Copilot permission to access additional browser context, such as user history and credentials, to take more concrete actions like making bookings or managing errands. Copilot will only be able to access browsing content when users enable it, and will provide visual cues to let users know when it is active in the background, Microsoft said. The feature will be available for free across Copilot markets in Windows and Mac PCs for a limited time and users can choose to opt out of it through Edge settings. Oil prices rise on EU trade deal and US-China tariff truce talks
SINGAPORE: Oil prices climbed on Tuesday as market sentiment improved following a US-EU trade agreement and discussions to extend the US-China tariff truce. Brent crude futures rose 24 cents, or 0.34%, to $70.28 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude increased 22 cents, or 0.33%, to $66.93. Both benchmarks had surged over 2% in the previous session, with Brent hitting its highest level since July 18. The US-EU trade deal, which imposes a 15% tariff on most EU goods, avoided a full-scale trade war that could have disrupted nearly a third of global trade and weakened fuel demand forecasts. Further supporting prices were reports of potential progress in US-China trade talks. Senior economic officials from both nations met for over five hours in Stockholm on Monday, with discussions set to continue on Tuesday. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions added to market volatility. US President Donald Trump issued a new 10 to 12-day deadline for Russia to show progress in ending the Ukraine war or face sanctions. Trump warned of penalties on Russia and buyers of its oil exports if no progress is made.
