UFL 2025: Every Touchdown from Defenders-Panthers Championship Game
In the end, the DC Defenders took down the Michigan Panthers at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis on Saturday in an action-packed game that featured 13 touchdowns and three field goals.
Jordan Ta'amu and the Defenders' offense put on a show, scoring a UFL record 58 points.
Let's take a look at every touchdown scored in Saturday's title game! DC Defenders 58, Michigan Panthers 34
Michigan got on the board first, going 67 yards in six plays on the game's opening drive to kick things off with a bang. Nate McCrary broke through a huge crease, beat his opponents to the sideline and turned on the jets for a 35-yard touchdown in the first few minutes of regulation. Just like that, the Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
The Defenders answered on their first drive of the game, knotting things up at 6-all with a touchdown drive that took twice as long — 12 plays and over six minutes. Facing a third-and-10 from Michigan's 26-yard line, Ta'amu dropped back and found Jayden Mickens wide open on a seam route. Ta'amu lofted a pass into the bread basket, and Mickens corralled it with ease.
The tie was short-lived, however, as Michigan scored again on a creative play-action pass on its second drive of the game just before the end of the first quarter. QB Bryce Perkins baited the Defenders' defense with a fake hand off to RB Toa Taua, which allowed WR Saiosi Mariner to break wide open on the right sideline. Without a defensive back in sight, Perkins lofted a softball to Mariner, who ran it in for an uncontested 8-yard touchdown and a 13-6 lead.
The second quarter was pure fireworks. After the Defenders added a field goal first thing to close the gap slightly, 13-9, the Panthers went three-and-out on the following drive. That swung the momentum toward the Defenders, who went on to score 22 unanswered points and grab a double-digit lead in the process, 31-13.
The first score was on a nice corner route from Cornell Powell. Ta'amu showed off his accuracy, lofting a pass to the spot where Powell would end up, and the receiver ran a perfect route to secure the 27-yard touchdown. A fumble by the Panthers on the ensuing kickoff gave the ball right back to the Defenders deep in the red zone. Ta'amu & Co. only needed four plays and roughly two minutes to hit paydirt, with the quarterback cashing in for the rushing score. Michigan went three-and-out on their next drive, and just like that, the Defenders were back on the field. Ta'amu led his squad downfield, and RB Deon Jackson finished things off with a 5-yard touchdown.
The Panthers scored on the following drive, going 84 yards in just two plays to keep things close, 31-19. The drive was highlighted by Perkins' short pass to WR Malik Turner, who turned it into a dazzling 71-yard touchdown.
What's better than a 71-yard score? A 73-yard score. The Defenders did just that, one-upping the Panthers with a jaw-dropping score of their own on the very next drive, as Ta'amu connected with WR Ty Scott to make it a 37-19 game at halftime.
The Defenders opened the second-half scoring with a field goal to put them ahead by 20-plus points, but after the Panthers coughed the ball up on their first drive of the third quarter, DC was back in the driver's seat. Jackson picked up his second rushing score of the day, this time from 17 yards out, to make it 46-19 midway through the third quarter.
DC opened the fourth quarter with another explosive scoring play. Ta'amu led his team downfield, capping off a lengthy 10-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to TE Briley Moore. With that, the Defenders were leading 52-19.
The Panthers scored back-to-back touchdowns — both coming from the dynamic duo of Perkins and Turner — after opting to go for an alternative kickoff. With those scores and a field goal, they were able to pull within 18 points, 52-34, midway through the fourth quarter.
It was too little too late, however, as the Defenders added one last score for good measure. With 3:40 to play, RB Chris Rowland punched in a 19-yard touchdown to seal the game, 58-34.

Panthers STC Tracy Smith is asked about the team's kicker competition
Are the Carolina Panthers closer to finding their kicker for the 2025 season? Well . . . Special teams coordinator Tracy Smith spoke on Tuesday following the team's latest outing of training camp. He told reporters that the kicking competition between veteran journeyman Matthew Wright and undrafted rookie Ryan Fitzgerald is going "great." "Both guys are doin' a really nice job," Smith stated. "Both made their kicks in the game—that's the most important part of it. And we're gonna keep going forward in the same way until it's time to figure it out." Friday's preseason opener, a 30-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, saw Wright boot through his extra point try in the first quarter. Fitzgerald would later convert on his lone attempt, a 32-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. Smith was then asked how long he thinks the competition will go on for. "Oh, I would go to the Super Bowl," he replied jokingly. "The more kickers we can have, the better. Just keep 'em going. I don't have a date on it. Let's have as much information as we can possibly can have and go forward. As long as we have space on the roster to have as many kickers as possible, I'm all for it." Smith later added, when asked if he thinks Wright or Fitzgerald is the answer, that he believes the Panthers have "NFL kickers" on their team. NFL preseason: Parsing through overreactions to Week 1's storylines, starting with Shedeur Sanders
The first week of the NFL preseason is in the books, leading to a slew of rational, not-insane-at-all opinions as people get their first taste of football this season. There are a lot of things causing people to have wild overreactions to the first week of the preseason, but we all already know where an overreactions piece on the NFL has to start. Let the process play out with Shedeur Sanders Shedeur Sanders had a good start to his rookie year with a solid showing against the Panthers in his first preseason game. Sanders played the bulk of the snaps in the game, throwing two touchdowns and having some other nice throws. It wasn't a perfect game from him and he definitely needs to continue to adjust to the speed of the NFL, but it did show that he deserves a real chance to compete for a roster spot as the Browns make some tough decisions as to how many quarterbacks they carry on the roster this season. However, now there's people saying (of course) Shedeur Sanders should be getting to practice with the first-team offense for the Browns. All of sudden, two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski is some clueless bum who doesn't know how to run his team. In the name of a fifth-round quarterback. Now, Sanders very well might not be the worst quarterback on the team — third-round pick Dillon Gabriel has yet to make his preseason debut — but he still has a ways to go before he cements his roster spot. Just take the positives as they come and remember, the preseason is a different ball game. A couple of years ago, current Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett lit up the preseason causing people to buy in on his prospect as a potential star quarterback. Now, he's in the same battle for his career as Sanders. Be easy, remember the preseason is the preseason. Let the process play out. Anthony Richardson isn't doomed just yet Hey, not a great start for a guy trying to salvage his career as a starting quarterback and former first-round pick. Anthony Richardson's attempt to continue being the starting quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts got off to a horrible start when he was knocked out of their preseason opener after taking a big hit from Ravens pass rusher David Ojabo on a protection bust between himself and the offensive line. There have been a bunch of reactions surrounding the hit, namely that this is just another piece of data that suggests Richardson is not ready for the opportunity that has been placed in front of him. Daniel Jones will start the next preseason game, but that was planned even before Richardson was hurt. While this definitely does hurt his chances to be the opening day starter for the Colts, it doesn't mean that the book is necessarily closed. The best chance for head coach Shane Steichen and others to keep their job is still Richardson becoming the quarterback that they hoped they were getting back in 2023. He is still fairly far away from that goal, but it doesn't mean that all hope is lost. There's still time to learn and his competition for the job isn't exactly fierce with Jones being his primary opposition. Again, just take these things day by day in the preseason. There's not much correlation here in regard to regular season success. Jets look to be buying in Perhaps this is a reminder to myself to not overreact to stuff, but it looks like Aaron Glenn is really starting to figure things out with the Jets already. For a team that looked so unbelievably lifeless toward the end of last season, it was incredible to see the fire and physicality that they played with in their preseason opener. They had a strong performance from the offensive line, had some great performances from a couple running backs and Justin Fields was able to make a couple big plays to inspire confidence. On the other side of the field, the Jets' first-team defense was flying around with Sauce Gardner making some of the best plays that he has in a year. Their first preseason game was a reminder that the Jets, for all their faults last year, are not a team that has no talent to speak of. They look like they'll be a tough out for a lot of teams this year, but, like I've said in the first couple sections, it's just the first week of the preseason. Cam Ward looks like the real deal The last one will be another reminder to myself that the preseason is just the preseason, but the oft-forgotten first overall pick, Cam Ward of the Tennessee Titans, will be making his NFL debut this year and looks like he can take this offense to a more credible level than where they were last year. Ward looked comfortable operating the offense and let it rip a couple times into tight coverage. He showed off his trademark playmaking ability out of the pocket and was generally more competent than anything the Titans have had under center in a long time. Now, there's still a ways to go until Ward can be considered a bonafide franchise quarterback, but his Titans debut certainly showed the framework is there.
