A hero uncle drowned at a beauty spot waterfall while trying to rescue his two nieces as they cooled off on a sunny day, an inquest heard. Mohananeethan Muruganantharajah, 27, known as Mohan, was on a family day out in the Brecon Beacons when the tragedy unfolded. An inquest heard the family were cooling off at the stunning Sgwd Y Pannwr waterfall in Ystradfellte, Wales on September 1, 2023 when they began to get into difficulty. Qualified pilot Mohan - who ran an off-licence in Swansea - rushed to help and heroically saved his two nieces from the water. But he was tragically dragged below the surface himself and was later found dead. Coroner Patricia Morgan said: 'The purpose of the visit was to walk and enjoy the scenery. 'When arriving at the waterfall, a number of members of his family decided to enter the water as the weather was pleasant. 'Due to a number of Mohananeethan's family getting into some difficulty, he assisted them to safety. However, sadly Mohananeethan was pulled under the water and did not resurface. Coroner Patricia Morgan returned a conclusion of accidental death. Mohan was located using underwater cameras but could not be recovered until the following morning. Two arrests over student's murder in Cambridge
Two men have been arrested in connection with a student's murder. The 20-year-old, who attended the EF International Language Campuses Cambridge, was assaulted and later pronounced dead on Friday evening. Police were called to Mill Park in Cambridge at 11.27pm on Friday as witnesses described hearing 'screaming'. On Saturday, Cambridgeshire Police said a 21-year-old man from Cambridge had been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 50-year-old man, also from the city, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both men remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station. EF International Language Campuses Cambridge said it understood the attack was 'carried out by a member of the public in an isolated incident'. Floral tributes have been left at the scene for the 20-year-old, who is yet to be named, while EF said it was 'deeply saddened by the loss'. EF International Language Campuses Cambridge told The Telegraph: 'We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our adult students was fatally injured last night in a public space. 'Emergency services responded immediately, but the student tragically passed away. 'We are working closely with the local police, who are investigating the incident and have confirmed they made arrests. 'The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. We are providing support to all students and staff affected by this tragic event and have organised counselling sessions. 'Our thoughts are with the student's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we have offered our full support. 'We will not be commenting further while the investigation is ongoing.' Det Insp Dale Mepstead, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: 'The investigation remains ongoing, and we continue to urge anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact us.'

Desperate search for missing teen last seen in historic town two days ago as anyone who sees her urged to call cops
COPS have launched a desperate appeal to find a missing teenager who was last seen two days ago. Alishea, 17, was reported missing from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday evening. The teen is described as being 5ft 4in with long, light brown hair. It is believed she was wearing a black puffer jacket, leggings and black trainers when she disappeared. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that she was last seen in the area at around 6pm. A statement from the force said: "Have you seen missing Alishea? "We are concerned for her safety and urgently want to hear from anyone who has seen her.
