The journey to this achievement began with the United Nations General Assembly declaring 2023 as the 'International Year of Millets,' a testament to India's persistent efforts.
Following this, the Ministry of Home Affairs mandated on 04.05.2023 the inclusion of millets in the daily diet of all Central Armed Police Forces for the financial year 2023-24, with a specific target of 30 per cent Shri Anna in the daily diet of jawans for 2024-25, added the statement further.
Through daily roll calls, briefings, Sainik Sammelans and other meetings, jawans were consistently educated about the benefits of millets. Welfare activities actively involve family members, encouraging them to embrace Shri Anna in their home diets. Millet-based dishes are also making their way into government functions as healthy refreshments.
In a testament to innovative promotion, CISF has launched a unique booklet titled 'Shri Anna Sarathi.' This comprehensive guide features diverse millet recipes from across India, highlights the Forces' efforts, includes feedback from cooks and even shares inspiring stories of health improvements among Force members who have adopted millets. A digital version is readily available on the CISF website, ensuring wide accessibility.
100 per cent of CISF cooks have been trained in preparing delicious millet dishes. The Force has organised an astounding 1,110 seminars, webinars and workshops, alongside 662 lectures by dietitians and doctors, to impart knowledge and dispel misconceptions.
CISF units have organised 335 highly successful exhibitions, or 'Millet Melas,' offering the public and CISF families a practical demonstration of how easy it is to incorporate millets into their diets. These melas provided a crucial opportunity for people to taste a variety of millet-based dishes, effectively clearing any doubts and encouraging wider adoption.
Millet products are now readily available in Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar (Central Police Welfare Store) outlets to further facilitate consumption.
Millets, often hailed as 'the first crops' and 'crops of the future,' are nutritional powerhouses. These climate-smart grains require minimal water, fertilisers, or pesticides and are incredibly resilient to drought and insects.
While challenges like inconsistent supply chains and limited public awareness have historically hindered millet adoption, CISF's extraordinary efforts are actively breaking down these barriers.
By leading through example and empowering its personnel and their families with knowledge and delicious options, CISF is playing a pivotal role in the Government of India's vision of promoting millets for the benefit of cultivators, consumers and the climate.

Muddied faces covered with blood, signs of physical injuries, and deeper mental trauma — which will take longer to heal — were evident in visuals of those rescued after ash floods triggered by a cloudburst devastated Chositi village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on over 1,000 people estimated to have been at the cloudburst site, the Army, disaster relief forces, and locals are racing against time to pull the injured from piles of slush and rocks and rush them to victims were unaware of what had befallen least 44 people, including two CISF personnel, have died, officials said. The toll is expected to rise as rescue teams uncover more victims. So far, 167 people have been rescued, with 38 in critical condition. It is the worst situation, and the death toll could rise."Medical facilities in the area are overwhelmed, with patients being treated on the floor due to bed shortages. Medical staff from nearby regions are assisting at Atholi Hospital, where injuries include broken ribs and limbs. As one medical staff noted, "Most have severe injuries — some to the chest, some on the head, others on the legs." The medical teams are doing their utmost to provide care under these difficult cloudburst unleashed a torrent of water and debris, sweeping away vehicles and destroying a community kitchen set up for pilgrims. A pilgrim from Jammu recounted, "It was a sudden cloudburst. We had left the shop close to langar (community kitchen) and had walked almost a kilometre when hell broke out. Flash flood decimated everything that came in their way. While the campus has gradually picked up pieces to start afresh, the unprovoked mob attack continues to haunt doctors, nurses and health workers on the campus. As organisations replayed another 'Reclaim the Night' on Thursday, the RG Kar campus saw an increase in security to prevent a repeat of the mob running amok in the hospital. Doctors and many civil society organisations said they would keep the vigil up until they are satisfied that "justice" has been done to the rape-murder victim. Many junior doctors took part in the 'Reclaim the Night' on Thursday as a gesture of protest against the vandalism and the rape-murder. "'Reclaim the Night' was aimed at demanding justice for Abhaya and ensuring women's safety. We need to keep the vigil up against such heinous crimes and also the mob attack to silence the protest," said a junior doctor. Their presence has kept the campus free of any violence for a year now. Since Aug 9, 2024, security has been increased on the campus. "The night of the mob attack continues to haunt me when doctors, nurses, other healthcare workers, along with patients, had to flee for their lives from the emergency department. Presence of CISF has made the campus trouble-free now," said an emergency medical officer. On Thursday, senior doctor organisations like Service Doctors' Forum, Medical Service Centre, and Nurses Unity, along with various civil society organisations, held a convention at Yuba Kendra Moulali, pledging to keep the vigil up by setting up an organisation — 'Voice of Abhaya, Voice of Women'. Other senior doctor bodies like Joint Platform of Doctors, which is a part of 'Abhaya Mancha', took part in the 'Reclaim the Night', where representatives of West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front also participated.
