Soldier on Army helicopter in deadly DC crash graduated from Gwinnett County high school
One of those soldiers on board a military helicopter when it crashed into a commercial plane in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night is a graduate of a Gwinnett County High School.
The Parkview High School JROTC confirmed that Ryan O'Hara, who graduated from the school in 2014, was the Crew Chief on board the Black Hawk helicopter.
'Ryan is fondly remembered as a guy who would fix things around the ROTC gym as well as a vital member of the Rifle Team. Ryan leaves behind a wife and 1-year-old son,' they wrote in a statement.

Three soldiers were on the helicopter conducting a training flight while 64 passengers and crew members were on American Airlines Flight 5342, operated by PSA Airlines.
On Thursday morning, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the soldiers were completing an annual proficiency training flight.
'It was a fairly experienced crew that was doing an annual required night evaluation,' and 'they did have night vision goggles,' Hegseth said.

President Donald Trump confirmed the NTSB, the U.S. military and other federal agencies would do a comprehensive investigation into the crash to 'figure out exactly what happened.'
Within about 12 hours after the crash, at least 28 bodies were pulled from the Potomac River.
Several members of the U.S. Figure Skating Association were on board the flight, the organization confirmed.
The skaters were from the Skating Club of Boston and included the skaters, coaches and family members who were at a development camp after the U.S. Figure Skating Championship.
Many of the victims' identities have not yet been released.

Soldier jailed for nine years for rape
An "evil" soldier who raped a woman in a dark alleyway has been sentenced to nine years in prison. Pte John Harvey, 25, of Clive Barracks in Tern Hill, Shropshire, had previously admitted carrying out the attack in the early hours of 6 July in the Mardol area of Shrewsbury. A statement from the victim, read out at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, said she had suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and anxiety since the attack, and rarely went out with friends now. She said she had been motivated to see the trial through to the end to prevent Harvey attacking anyone else, but as a result had been "forced to relive the worst moment of my life repeatedly". The court heard the incident, in which she was raped twice and sexually assaulted, had lasted about 20 minutes. Det Con Sam Jones said he had "committed a purely evil crime". In passing his sentence, Judge Richard McConaghy told Harvey: "You were drunk and had clearly been looking for sex. "She was not interested in you, but you did not care." After the attack, the victim called the police, and the judge said the call had been "harrowing to listen to". Despite making full admissions to officers when he was arrested, Harvey chose to go to trial and contest the allegations. Det Con Jones said as a result of changing his story, he had subjected "his victim and her loved ones to sit through a trial and relive that awful night". The victim's statement, read by prosecutor Caroline Harris, said: "This man has no regard for women." He was found guilty in February by a jury following a nine-day trial. Clive Barracks is the long-term home of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment, but a statement from the Army did not confirm details of Harvey's unit. The judge said he was "an educated man with a degree" and a "respectable career". "You had the capacity to make something of your life," the judge told him. He sentenced Harvey to nine years for each of the charges of rape, to run concurrently, and seven years for the sexual assault, also to run concurrently. The judge said he must also serve three years on extended licence once his sentence was complete, be placed on the sex offenders register for life and must not contact victim directly or indirectly. President Donald Trump is getting the military parade he's long wanted this year, as the U.S. Army plans to mark its 250th anniversary with a pomp-filled procession through the streets of the nation's capital, a date coinciding with the president's birthday. "The event is designed not only to showcase the Army's modern capabilities but also to inspire a new generation to embrace the spirit of service, resilience, and leadership that defines the United States," according to a May 21 statement on event organizer's website. "The parade will trace the Army's evolution from the Revolutionary War through to the U.S. Army of Tomorrow." Here's what to know about the parade's route and when it takes place. The military parade is slated for Saturday, June 14, in the heart of Washington, D.C., spanning six blocks and bisecting the National Mall. Celebrations and associated events are set to take place throughout the day, starting with a fitness competition at 9:30 a.m. ET, and an assortment of military demonstrations, equipment displays and live music performances throughout the day. Visitors can expect kid zones, more than 50 vendor and experience booths, and meet-and-greats with "Army soldiers, NFL players, influencers and celebrities," according to the U.S. Army event page.
