Ed Sheeran says he classes his culture as Irish
Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has said he identifies culturally as Irish despite being born and raised in England.Brought up in Suffolk, the Galway Girl singer's dad hails from Belfast."I class my culture as Irish. I think that's what I grew up with," he told The Louis Theroux Podcast."My dad's family is... he's got seven brothers and sisters. We'd spend all of our holidays in Ireland. My first musical experiences were in Ireland, I grew up with trad music in the house. So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain."
"I don't overthink it but I do feel like my culture is something that I'm really proud of and grew up with and want to express," he added."And I feel like just because I was born in Britain doesn't necessarily mean that I have to just be (British), there's loads of people I know that are half this or quarter this."He added: "I don't think there's any rules to it. It should be how you feel and how you were raised and what you lean into."Asked if he gets "a lot of love" in Ireland, he said: "I'd say it's basically my second home, musically. I'd say Ireland is the place that I am most successful musically."

Sheeran is married to Cherry Seaborn and the couple have two children. He also spoke to Theroux about the difficulties of fame and having to have security for his family.He said that for him personally, "it's kind of the part of the normal of being in the public eye" but that is was different when it came to his wife and children."I'm very, very private about my children's image... I can't take them to zoos or parks or anything really without someone trying to film them."There are times where the normal parts of life I kind of mourn for and wish I could push my kind on a swing in a public park and it not be weird, you know?"He said: "People go, well that's the trade-off. But my kids have not signed up to that."He added it was sometimes tricky when he was flying as he usually travels on commercial flights due to environmental concerns."We're flying back on Ryanair from a gig in Italy last year but all of my fans who'd been at the gig were flying back!"I like the environment, I like trees. I'd find it hard to justify. No one's perfect. When we're doing intense promo trips, there will be the odd time [taking a private jet]", he told Theroux.
Speaking about his music, Sheeran said: "The two joys of my life professionally are writing songs and performing. I hate releasing music. I find the whole process quite stressful."You love the songs so much and then suddenly you're putting them out there, and that might change your relationship with them if other people don't like them. And I'm trying my hardest not to let that happen."He also mused on his relationship with success."I kind of feel I had my peak with [the album] Divide and I'm kind of coasting now. I don't know if I'll ever get back up there again but [when I had] that level of fame, that was my unhappiest [time]."I'm much happier with the balance I've got now."After releasing two acoustic albums in 2023, Sheeran's upcoming pop album, Play, his eighth studio album, will be released in September.

Beyond The Pale, three days of music, arts, food and wellbeing nestled in Co Wicklow, takes place this weekend, after some 'will they, won't they' last weekend. The Beyond the Pale campsite will open on Friday at 11am, closing at 4pm on Monday. The arena will open at 4.30pm on Friday, and 11.45am on Saturday and Sunday. If you are bringing a car, the car park is open from 11am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but while the carpark closes at 10pm on Friday and Saturday, it closes at 8pm on Sunday. All vehicles must be off site by 4pm on Monday. If you are bringing a campervan or campervan, entry is open on Friday from 9am until 10pm. On Saturday and Sunday, entry opens at 11am. There is free parking available to those driving to the festival, and it is located as close to the front entrance as possible, about a 10-minute walk from the campsite. Organisers highly encourage carpooling. For those driving campervans, with families or wheelchair accessible, enter Annamoe into your satnav and follow the festival signage to enter via the main gate at Annamoe. The Annamoe entrance is also what will be used for pickups at the end of the night. How accessible is it? Organisers have endeavoured to make the site as accessible as possible, but the festival takes place predominantly on grass and some uneven ground, so the appropriate mobility devices are recommended. There will be no ATMs on the site, so it is advisable to bring some cash with you. What's the story with security? Beyond The Pale is an over-21s event, except for children under 12, who can go but must be accompanied by a paying parent or guardian over 21. People aged 13-20 are not allowed entry to the festival site. Alcohol can be brought onto the site at the time of first entry only, and there is no re-entry with alcohol once wristbanded. There are no glass containers permitted on-site whatsoever, so ensure you decant your alcohol into a reusable bottle before arrival. You can bring alcohol from the campsite into the arena, but it must be open when you are going in. Weekend camping ticket holders can bring 24 cans or one litre of spirits, or 1.5 litres of wine onsite for personal consumption. However, day ticket holders are not permitted to bring alcohol. Searches will be conducted upon entry to the festival and anyone found carrying illicit items will have them confiscated and may be removed from the festival and passed over to gardaí as a result. Fireworks, Chinese lanterns, flares, high-power torches, naked flames, barbecues, illicit drugs, legal highs or nitrous oxide, glass, animals (except assistance dogs), anything that could be considered an offensive weapon, drones, umbrellas, garden furniture, megaphones, bikes, high-vis clothing and gas canisters are among some of, but not all, the items prohibited. Can I bring my own reusable bottle and coffee cup to the festival? Yes, you can. Organisers highly encourage it. There are free water refilling stations across the site, just remember that no glass containers are permitted. What's the weather forecast? At the time of writing, light rain is expected on Friday, with temperatures between 10 and 17 degrees. On Saturday, much the same is expected with slightly more sun than Friday. Sunday is forecast to be dry with temperatures also expected to be between 11 and 17 degrees, but cloudy. Remember that we are in Ireland though, and the festival takes place predominantly on grass, so when packing - especially packing footwear - bear that in mind.

Sun Racing told you that legendary 14-time champion trainer Paul is enabling the help of Meg at the auctions this year. 1 The pair hit up the Goffs Arkle sale in Ireland on Tuesday and got the cheque book out in style - snapping up three hugely promising sorts. The pick of the bunch was a £130,000 gelding by champion jumps sire Walk In The Park, whose mum Lackaneen Leader was placed in a Grade 1. Meg, who combines her role as an ITV pundit with sourcing top talent, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to get him. "We got our three top picks, and thought we might have had to stretch a bit more for the Walk In The Park. "Dad actually loved him from the moment he came out of his box. "His eyes lit up really, the horse had that bit of class about him. "He's really athletic, and we can't wait to get him back and get him going. "We knew he would make this sort of money – he really is classy, he had that swagger about him, and he's by the right sire. "We've been fighting hard against some big stables and as I have got older I've found it easier to work alongside Dad! "To get some pretty smart horses at what we valued them at - I'm delighted. Now we need to find the right owners for them." The pair also bought £78,000 L'Ami Pierrot, who is related to Nicky Henderson's former multiple Grade 1 winner L'Ami Serge. Being by Nirvana Du Berlais, he also shares a sire with Lulamba, so expect him to be a speedy sort capable over hurdles. He said: "I've been hearing all sorts of rumours, Tom and I are good mates but there has never been any contract between us. "He's a freelance and he buys plenty for me, so do several others. "I'm going to work with everybody, but Megan is going to get quite a bit more involved for me. "Results could have gone better over the last few years but that's the way things are, it's very hard buying these days. "I'll keep all avenues open, but more so than ever I'd like to get Megan much more involved on that front."
