SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspected gunman has been arrested months after an 18-year-old was shot dead in Sun City Center, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies found Brandon Clark dead from a gunshot wound around 10:43 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2024, after receiving reports of gunfire near Camp Island Avenue.

Authorities said shots rang out that night after an 'altercation' at a community center in the area, and Clark was struck by the gunfire.
After months of interviewing witnesses and neighbors to try to piece together what happened, and other extensive investigative efforts, the sheriff's office said it all pinpointed to one suspect.
Malachi Higgs, 18, was taken into custody on May 23 on multiple charges. The charges against him include:
Murder in the first degree while engaged in robbery
Robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon less than $750
Carrying a concealed firearm
Minor in possession of a firearm
'This arrest is the result of the tireless work by our detectives and a commitment to seeking justice,' said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. 'While nothing can undo the loss suffered by this young man's family, we hope this development brings a measure of closure.'

Former Heat employee pleads guilty to selling stolen jerseys, memorabilia

Former Miami Heat security officer Marcos Thomas Perez pleaded guilty Tuesday to transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. Perez, 62, stole more than 400 jerseys and other memorabilia from a secured equipment room and sold them on online marketplaces. The U.S. Attorney's Office said in a release that Perez sold more than 100 stolen items for $1.9 million over three years and shipped them across state lines, often at prices below their market value. The items included a game-worn LeBron James jersey from Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals, which later sold for nearly $3.7 million in a 2023 Sotheby's auction. Advertisement Perez, a retired member of the Miami Police Department, worked as a security officer with the Heat from 2016 to 2021 and later served as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025. While working on game days at the team's Kaseya Center, Perez had access to an equipment room that stored hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia intended for a future Heat museum, according to the release. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Perez's home in April and seized almost 300 items that the Heat confirmed had been stolen from their arena. Earlier this month, Perez appeared in federal court and was charged with transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce. The charges are reminiscent of those faced by former Augusta National employee Richard Brendan Globensky, who pleaded guilty to stealing items worth an estimated $5.3 million from the country club, including Arnold Palmer's green jacket, which was intercepted in an FBI sting operation in 2022. Globensky received a 12-month prison sentence in March. Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle

Teenager faces murder charge in deadly Henderson marijuana robbery

HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) — An 18-year-old faces charges including murder for the shooting death of a 19-year-old during what police suspect was a marijuana robbery gone wrong. John Mancuso is accused of killing Treyvon Jackson on July 22 at an apartment complex near Warm Springs Road and Green Valley Parkway. Jackson died from a gunshot wound to his torso, the coroner's office ruled. A witness first told police she and Jackson arrived at the complex to buy an electric bike, documents said. She told police that during the sale, a man wearing a ski mask jumped out from behind a car and shot Jackson. Through subsequent investigation, police determined the sale actually involved marijuana and possibly trading marijuana for a bike, documents said. '[The witness] knew that [Jackson] had made an agreement to sell the marijuana for $700, but she did not know if they were going to trade for the bike or if Treyvon would be receiving cash for the purchase,' police said. 'Treyvon had the marijuana stored inside [a] backpack, which, when located at the crime scene, was empty and there was no marijuana inside.' The witness later identified Jackson as a man she and Jackson met in the parking lot for the marijuana sale before the shooting, documents said. The FBI Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Mancuso on July 28, records said. In addition to open murder with a deadly weapon, Mancuso faces charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. It was not immediately clear if police suspected there were outstanding individuals connected to the case. At the time of the release of their investigation press release, Henderson police said 'no suspects' were identified. Police did not issue a follow-up press release for Mancuso's arrest. Mancuso remained detained without bail at the Clark County Detention Center as of Monday. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday. The shooting marked Henderson's fourth homicide for 2025.
