Amit Shah urges youth to make India No.1 by 2047, hails legacy of tribal hero Govind Guru
AHMEDABAD: In a rousing call to action, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday urged the youth to commit themselves to making India a global leader by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
Linking the nation's future to its proud past, he paid tribute to tribal icon Govind Guru, crediting him with igniting public consciousness against British rule.
Speaking via video link during a development programme in Gujarat's Panchmahal district, Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward Govind Guru's vision with a mission to build a 'Viksit Bharat'. The occasion also marked the launch of Rs 125 crore worth of infrastructure works at Shri Govind Guru University.
Addressing the event virtually due to bad weather, Shah emphasised the significance of the tribal leader's contributions during British rule. 'Govind Guru awakened the conscience of the people during the colonial era. He was a valiant hero of India's freedom movement,' Shah said, recalling the Mangadh uprising, where 1,512 tribal men and women were martyred fighting British forces, an event that turned Mangadh into a landmark in India's independence history.

EOW intensifies probe into ‘Salar Jung family's Rs 150-crore land gift to Sena MP's driver'
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar city police has intensified its probe into a complaint by a lawyer in Parbhani alleging that the driver of a Shiv Sena MP was illegally gifted a three-acre land worth nearly Rs 150 crore, a prime property in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, by Hyderabad's Salar Jung family. The complaint was filed by lawyer Mujahid Khan, who alleged fraud in the gift deed effecting transfer of the three acres from the Salar Jung family to Javed Shaikh, driver of Shiv Sena MP Sandipan Bhumre, whose son Vikas Bhumre is an MLA. Speaking to The Indian Express, the investigation officer of the case and EOW inspector Sambhaji Pawar said the EOW received the complaint around two months back and since then an inquiry has been going on into the matter, and that recently the inquiry has been expedited. As per the complaint filed with the EOW, the three-acre land in question is in the Dawoodpura area on Jalna Road in Aurangabad and is part of a 12-acre land belonging to the Salar Jung family. Shaikh has claimed he knows the Salar Jung family well. The lawyer, however, has questioned as to why would the Salar Jung family give such a high-value land to a driver. Khan also claimed that for the same land, the Salar Jung family fought a long legal battle with the revenue department and claimed it in 2023. 'We are checking the legality of the land transfer gift deed. We have already recorded some statements and have summoned other people concerned, including the kin of the Salar family,' Pawar said. 'We have summoned Shaikh in the past. He told us he would come with some documents but did not turn up again. We again served him summons recently. Similarly, kin of the Salar Jung family have also been asked to remain present for the inquiry with relevant documents,' Pawar added. The police have so far not registered any FIR in the case and are checking if a cognisable offence was committed. When asked if the police have recorded the statements of Vikas Bhumre and his father Sandipan Bhumre, the investigation officer said the inquiry is at a preliminary stage and for now they have not been found connected to the alleged irregularities; hence, they have not been summoned yet. Vikas Bhumre reportedly denied any link of his family with their driver Shaikh's land gift deed.

Centre to strengthen mining infrastructure in North East states: Kishan Reddy
Guwahati: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy reaffirmed the Central Government's full support to the mineral and coal-rich North Eastern states at a Mining Ministers' Conclave held here on Saturday. Addressing the gathering on the second day of the event, the Minister highlighted the Centre's commitment to strengthening mining infrastructure, fast-track project approvals, and promoting sustainable mining practices in the region. He stated that the development of the North East is central to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with the eight states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim—rightfully celebrated as Ashta Lakshmi. Reddy said that enhanced Centre-State coordination is key to generating employment, attracting investment, and driving inclusive economic growth through mineral and coal sector development. During the conclave, representatives from all eight northeastern states presented their roadmaps for advancing the mining and coal sectors. Ministers from Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, along with the Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, outlined state-specific strategies, achievements, and future plans. They shared progress in block auctions, exploration of critical minerals, revival of coal mines, development of minor minerals, and adoption of sustainable mining models. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to balancing environmental safeguards with economic growth. States also called for greater central assistance to overcome regional challenges and realise their full resource potential. Addressing the conclave, Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, emphasised the need to significantly scale up exploration efforts across the country. He urged the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), and State Governments to work in close coordination and adopt modern, targeted, and time-bound exploration practices, especially for critical and strategic minerals. He added that the Government of India has provided unprecedented policy and budgetary support to boost exploration activities, and now is the time to translate that momentum into action on the ground. On the sidelines of the conclave, Reddy inaugurated the new regional office of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) in Guwahati. The inauguration was held in the presence of Assam Minister for Mines Kaushik Rai and senior officials. The new IBM office is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening regulatory oversight, technical support, and facilitation services for the mining sector in the North East. The two-day conclave served as a vital platform for aligning regional mining strategies with the national agenda of sustainable development, energy security, and economic transformation.

The footage of O'Hanna displaying the flag came to light after the trio projected pro-Palestinian messages on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California in April, ending with: "Fuck Israel. Free Palestine." Kneecap, whose other members have the stage names Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí, have said they do not support Hamas or Hezbollah. O'Hanna said on Friday the group were "playing characters" on stage, and it was up to the audience to interpret their messages.
