Al-Arabi exits the AFC Challenge League after a heavy defeat to Arkadag
Despite entering the match with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, secured through goals by Hamza Khaba and Salman Al-Awadhi, the "Greens" failed to maintain their advantage.
Coach Nasser Al-Shatti fielded a lineup that included Suleiman Abdul Ghafoor in goal, a backline of Hamad Al-Qallaf, Hassan Hamdan, Sofiane Bouchar, and Jumaa Aboud, with Kamil Al-Aswad, Hussein Ashkanani, and Ali Khalaf in midfield, and Hamza Khaba, Wanayo Iwala, and Christopher John up front.
Disaster struck early for Al-Arabi when defender Hassan Hamdan suffered an injury in the first minute following a rough challenge. Play was paused for five minutes before Hamdan was stretchered off, and Mohammed Khaled came on as his replacement.
Arkadag capitalized on the disruption, scoring its opening goal in the 7th minute through Shenzar Turkishov, who fired a powerful shot into the bottom left corner past Abdul Ghafoor.
Al-Arabi tried to respond with attacking efforts, but they struggled to break through Arkadag's organized defense. Meanwhile, the home team continued to threaten with aerial balls and crosses, keeping the pressure on until halftime.
In the second half, Arkadag maintained its dominance. They doubled their lead in the 58th minute when substitute Anadiev pounced on a rebound from Turkishov's shot that hit both the post and Abdul Ghafoor before slotting it home.
Seven minutes later, Bazgilich Gurbanov nearly made it 3-0, but Abdul Ghafoor produced a crucial save. Al-Shatti then brought on Youssef Majed and Salman Al-Awadhi in an attempt to turn the tide. Al-Arabi's performance improved, and they created several chances, including a clear one-on-one opportunity for Al-Awadhi in the 88th minute, but Rustam Ahaliev blocked the shot.
Arkadag sealed the match just before the final whistle, when Anadiev sent in a low cross that Turkishov tapped into the net unmarked, completing his brace and confirming Al-Arabi's elimination from the tournament.

Al-Shatti praises Salmiya players after strong start to preseason camp
ISTANBUL, Aug 18: Kuwait's clubs are stepping up preparations for the new season with training camps abroad, highlighted by Qadisiya's ongoing schedule in Turkey, Salmiya's strong start in Cyprus, and Arabi's recent arrival in Dubai. Qadisya will face Saudi side Al-Wehda this evening in its fourth friendly match of the camp. The team previously drew 2-2 with Al-Faisaly, lost narrowly 1-0 to Al-Okhdood, and bounced back with a 2-0 win over Fujairah of the UAE. The team will next meet Bahrain's Sitra on Saturday, a side it is also set to face in the group stage of the Gulf Champions League beginning September 30, before closing out the camp against Al-Orouba of Saudi Arabia on August 28. The camp was hit by sad news as Algerian defender Sofiane Bouchar departed to return home following the death of his mother. Meanwhile, Salmiya got off to a winning start in Turkey, defeating Cyprus' Magusa Turk Gucu 4-1 in its opening friendly. Goals came from Brazilian Alex Lima, Libyan forward Sanousi Al-Hadi, and Fawaz Ayed, who scored twice. Head coach Nasser Al-Shatti praised his players for their discipline and commitment in training, stressing that their focus has allowed the preparation program to run smoothly. He expressed satisfaction with the team's display in the first friendly, noting that the players executed the tactics well and benefited from the test. Salmiya is set to play two more friendlies against Turkey's Serik Spor (August 21) and Antalyaspor (August 27). In Dubai, Al-Arabi launched its training camp yesterday as it prepares for the new season. The team will remain in the UAE until August 29 and is scheduled to play two friendlies before returning to Kuwait in early September. Al-Arabi will open its Zain Premier League campaign against Al-Shabab on September 12.

Explosive start to the 2025 Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong
HONG KONG, Aug 18: The 2025 Saudi Super Cup kicks off today in Hong Kong, running from August 19 to 23, featuring Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, Qadsia, and Al-Ahli. The tournament opens with a clash between Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, followed tomorrow by Qadsia taking on Al-Ahli. The winners of both matches will advance to the final on August 23. Al-Ahli was included in this year's Super Cup after Al-Hilal withdrew from the competition. The Saudi Football Federation promptly decided to replace Al-Hilal with Al-Ahli, who finished fifth in the Roshen League. Al-Riyadiya reported that the federation recently approved an urgent amendment to its competition regulations, introducing a clause on withdrawals. The new rule allows the federation to seek financial compensation from any club that withdraws for damages caused. This decision follows Al-Hilal's official withdrawal in July. While the federation accepted the club's apology, the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee imposed a ban on Al-Hilal from participating in the 2026-2027 Super Cup and fined the club 500,000 Saudi Riyals. With Al-Ahli stepping in, the 2025 Saudi Super Cup promises an exciting showdown as the tournament gets underway in Hong Kong.
