There should be plenty of quality schoolboy rugby action on offer this weekend. Picture: Supplied
It's King Price Derby time, but also the Noordvaal series (cup division), so there's plenty of quality schoolboy rugby to look forward to this weekend.
A number of teams have only had a few days off following the Wildeklawer rugby tournament in Kimberley last week and they're back in action on Saturday.
In the new King Price Derby series there are four hugely exciting matches taking place on Saturday.
Matches in Western and Eastern Cape
Down in the Western Cape, two big rivalries are happening.
In Paarl, Paarl Boys High host Grey College from Bloemfontein at 2pm, while in Stellenbosch Paul Roos Gimnasium host Paarl Gimnasium, the current number one team in the country, also at 2pm.
Boys High have in their coaching ranks the likes of Sean Erasmus and Neil de Bruin, both men who've worked with the Lions in Joburg, while former Irish Test star CJ Stander is also involved in the coaching staff. The Paarl team recently beat Monument from Krugersdorp 85-0.
The last four meetings between Boys High and Grey have all belonged to the boys from Bloemfontein. In their coaching team are the likes of former Boks Wian du Preez and Helgard Muller.
There are also two big derbies in the Eastern Cape. Dale College host Queen's College (3.30pm) and Grey High host Wynberg Boys High (5pm).
Noordvaal matches
In the Noordvaal series upcountry, there are five matches on the go on Saturday.
Transvalia host Rustenburg, Monument entertain EG Jansen, Helpmekaar welcome Noordheuwel, Menlopark take on Nelspruit while Pretoria rivals Garsfontein and Waterkloof clash at the former team's home field.
Garsfontein are currently ranked sixth in the country, while Waterkloof are 20th.
Kickoff times for these matches are not available.

Rassie full of praise for Joe Schmidt, talks up Wallabies' chances in Rugby Championship
'Everyone is talking about the belief he brought back. The fight for the jersey is back. We have a lot of respect for that and also the squad he is building.' Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said the Wallabies will be out to honour their coach, Joe Schmidt, with an emphatic display in the Rugby Championship, adding that it is in their hands to win it all. Erasmus expressed his own admiration for the outgoing coach, having worked with Schmidt during his time in Ireland. Rassie: Wallabies are clicking The Wallabies take on the Springboks in their first two Rugby Championship matches, first in Johannesburg this Saturday and then in Cape Town the following weekend. Australia have not won at Ellis Park since 2009 but they are coming from an encouraging performance in their home series against the British & Irish Lions. They lost the series 2–1 but only due to a controversial refereeing decision in the dying minutes of the second game. The Wallabies won the final match emphatically, 22–12, and have spoken about carrying that momentum into the Rugby Championship. Erasmus, who in a friendly wager with his fellow coaches thought the Wallabies would win the second Lions Test, was again full of praise for their resurgence in world rugby, after they came last in the last two Rugby Championships and failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 2023. 'We are under no illusions that the moment you start clicking, start understanding each other and the real belief is there – it is not plastic belief – people don't just talk it up but they play it up,' Erasmus said, after naming his squad for the first match. 'I think they are currently playing it up on the field. So I think this Rugby Championship is very open to all four teams.' Still, the Springbok coach said it was hard to know the level an opposition team was at physically and mentally until they actually played them. Springbok coach lauds work done by Schmidt Erasmus applauded the work done by Schmidt, who will be replaced by Les Kiss next season. He said that while coaching Munster from 2017 to 2019, he actually reported to Joe Schmidt, who was coaching Ireland at the time, because of the organisational structure in Irish rugby. 'Joe is a great coach. He is a very particular guy, a very detail-driven guy. He certainly knows what he wants.' Erasmus said Schmidt would like to finish on a high, and the Wallabies have respect for him. 'Everyone is talking about the belief he brought back. The fight for the jersey is back. We have a lot of respect for that and also the squad he is building.'

Wallabies' Max Jorgensen pumped to face ‘bloody good' Springboks
The 20-year-old utility back Max Jorgensen made his Test debut against South Africa in Perth during last year's Rugby Championship. Now, coach Joe Schmidt is set to unleash his raw pace and composure in back-to-back clashes against the world champions in Johannesburg and Cape Town. 'All the boys are pretty pumped after our last win against the [British & Irish] Lions, we've built a bit of confidence there,' Jorgensen said ahead of the team's departure for South Africa. ALSO: Boks brace for 'psyched-up' Wallabies 'But South Africa are a bloody good team so we've got to really take it to them, bring the physicality and hopefully come out with a win.' Jorgensen warned against reading too much into that morale-boosting victory over the Lions. 'We've got to stick to the process. We've got to keep building the days. We're still building, we're still a work in progress – we're not perfect. We've got to take the learnings from our last game and keep building into that, building into South Africa and all through the Rugby Championship.' For Jorgensen, the Boks represent the ultimate test. 'It's who you want to play against,' he said. 'You don't want to play against the lower tier nations. You really want to play against those high tier nations with strong players, strong teams because it really challenges you as a team and as a player personally.' Where is 'absent' Juarno Augustus after Springbok call-up?
When Juarno Augustus emerged as the standout Junior Springbok star and Player of the Tournament in the 2017 U20 Championship, very few would have predicted that he would remain uncapped at Springbok level at the age of 27. Nevertheless, his outstanding form for the Northampton Saints last season did not go unnoticed, and he finally received his first call-up to a Springbok alignment camp earlier this year. With the likes of Cameron Hanekom and Elrigh Louw injured, it appeared to the be the perfect opportunity for Augustus to make his senior Springbok debut after gaining some all-important experience overseas. Yet, Augustus was ultimately unable to report for duty with the Springboks, and the powerful loose forward remained out of the picture when Rassie Erasmus revealed the squad for the start of the Rugby Championship? Unfortunately, matters have become complicated at club level after Augustus took the difficult decision to leave Northampton and make a move to Irish club Ulster. Augustus needed to be cleared by Northampton Saints to join Irish team Ulster, but he failed his exit medical, and ultimately SA Rugby cannot interfere with this process until it is cleared up. Although his exact injury has not been specified, it also appears that it is perhaps more serious than first thought. 'He's struggling with his back, if I remember correctly,' Erasmus told the media recently .'He's also between two clubs now. We can't bring him in with an injury and do the rehabilitation, but he's still with Ulster. So it's a bit of a technical one.' It now appears unlikely that Augustus will feature in the Rugby Championship, and he may need to once again rediscover some form and fitness at club level before finally getting his long-awaited opportunity with the Springboks.
