Marcos: Partido Federal now a formidable force
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. said Monday that his political party, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), has become a formidable force in public service.
The President, in a statement made more than a month after the May 12 midterm polls, said the PFP members are now 'agents of meaningful growth and progress in the country.'
'I convey my most heartfelt greetings to my fellow members of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Thank you all for your continued support, unwavering commitment, and solidarity in uplifting the lives of Filipinos. I am truly proud of what we have accomplished in the past years. Because of our concerted efforts, we have become a formidable force in public service,' he said in a video message.
'This is proof that our vision and everything we stand for as a movement and as a party resonate loudly with our people. That is why we must continue to sustain the party's brand of governance that Filipinos have come to expect from us and make sure that our actions are transparent, effective, and responsive to the needs of our citizens,' Marcos added.
He then called on his party mates to serve their terms with renewed vigor and strength towards realizing Bagong Pilipinas 'where every individual is empowered with greater opportunities.'
'Let us commit ourselves to a higher level of excellent leadership and be the visionaries, the trailblazers, and changemakers that society calls for and deserves,' he said.
In the May elections, PFP fielded three Senate bets but all of them lost: former Senator and Filipino boxing Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, Senator Francis Tolentino and former Secretary Benhur Abalos of the Department of Interior and Local Government. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

Comelec eyes implementing e-registration for BSKE voter registration
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is mulling to implement e-register or online registration in October should the Baranggay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) be formally postponed. Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia made the remarks on Monday following reports of some registrants fainting during the ten-day nationwide voter registration last week. 'Dapat meron na tayong online registration,' Garcia said. 'Mayroon na tayong mandato na kaya lang di siguro na-highlight. Amin pong patitibayin at paiigtingin ang e-register natin.' (We already have the online registration system as well as the mandate for it. However, it was not highlighted. We will reinforce and strengthen it.) Under the e-registration system, Garcia said applicants will submit their forms online. They will then be provided with a scheduled date to visit their local Comelec offices and have their photos, fingerprints, and oath taken. 'Almost sure na ito ay ipapatupad natin, 'yung e-register. Subalit kailangan pa rin pumunta sa local Comelec para lang magpa-picture, sign, at kuhanan ng fingerprints,' he said. (It is almost sure that we will implement the e-register but they still need to visit their local Comelec offices for photos, signature, and fingerprints.) 'Kailangan namin yun para sa biometrics at maikumpara namin sa existing registration,' Garcia added. (We need that for biometrics and to compare them with the existing registration.) More than 2.7 million Filipinos registered during the voter registration for the 2025 Baranggay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) — higher than the number of applications for the recent polls. Garcia reiterated this is 'the most successful voter registration in history' and said 65%-67% of the registrants were youth. 'Overall, generally peaceful ang ating registration. Napaka-matagumpay po ito. Again, inuulit natin, ito ang pinakamatagumpay na registration sa kasaysayan ng buong Commission, ng registration, ng ating election,' he said. (Overall, the registration period [was] generally peaceful. It is a victory for us. It is also, again, the most successful registration in the history of the Comelec, our registration, and our elections.) 'Nakakatuwa, sampung araw almost 2.8M ang nagpa-rehistro…Nalagpasan pa ang registration na ginawa namin nitong nakaraang taon,' he added. (We're happy that almost 2.8M registered during the ten-day period. That surpasses our registration last year.) The ten-day nationwide voter registration for the 2025 BSKE started on Friday, August 1 until Sunday, August 10. However, voter registration in SRAP sites was opened until Thursday, August 7. Earlier, the Comelec said it will resume the voter registration in October to July next year should the BSKE be formally moved following the signing of a proposed bill seeking to extend the term of office for the barangay and SK officials from three to four years, and postpone the elections to the first Monday of November 2026. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced he will sign the proposed measure. The 2025 BSKE is initially set on December 1, 2025. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday disclosed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget of flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors. ''This is another disturbing assessment, statistic: 20% of the entire P545 billion budget napunta lang sa 15 na contractor. Five of these 15 contracts have projects in almost all regions nationwide,'' he added. The 15 contractors were the following: 1. Legacy Construction Corporation 2. Alpha & Omega Gen. Contractor & Development Corp. 3. St. Timothy Construction Corporation 4. QM Builders 5. EGB Construction Corporation 6. Topnotch Catalyst Builders Inc. 7. Centerways Construction and Development Inc. 8. Sunwest, Inc. 9. Hi-Tone Construction & Development Corp. 10. Triple 8 Construction & Supply, Inc. 11. Royal Crown Monarch Construction & Supplies Corp. 12. Wawao Builders 13. MG Samidan Construction 14. L.R. Tiqui Builders, Inc. 15. Road Edge Trading & Development Services Marcos said the five contractors with projects in almost all regions across the country include Legacy Construction Corporation, Alpha & Omega Gen. Contractor & Development Corp., St. Timothy Construction Corporation, EGB Construction Corporation, and Road Edge Trading & Development Services. Asked if these contractors have links to sitting government executives and officials, Marcos said the administration is still looking into it. ''We will still go through every single one. And we still have to see what really is – what really is credible and what needs to be acted upon,'' Marcos said. In his last State of the Nation Address, the President vowed to ensure that those involved in anomalous flood control projects would be held accountable. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Marcos vows PH will never back out after latest WPS water cannon incident
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday said Philippine assets would never back out, after a Chinese vessel fired a water cannon at a Philippine vessel in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). Marcos was referring to the Philippine Coast Guard's (PCG) vessel BRP Suluan which was on a mission to aid Filipino fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc when the incident occurred on Monday morning. ''We have never instructed any of our vessels to back out,'' Marcos said at a press briefing. ''Never, never. But we have to always – we do not back out because natakot tayo, umatras tayo. Alam mo, I don't know about other places, pero dito sa – dito sa gobyernong ito, hindi tayo umaatras sa laban (We do not back out just because we are scared. In this government, we will not back out.),'' he added. ''We don't – we don't… We are brave. Filipinos are brave,'' the President said. Marcos said the country's uniformed personnel have been doing their duty and mission of defending the Philippines, noting that ''we will not stop doing it.'' Earlier, Philippine vessels and fishermen encountered hazardous maneuvers and blocking actions from other vessels in the vicinity, according to PCG spokesperson for WPS Commodore Jay Tarriela. 'In particular, the MRRV 4406 (BRP Suluan) was targeted with a water cannon, but the seamanship skills by PCG crew members allowed the vessel to successfully evade from getting hit,' Tarriela said. He said the PCG has deployed the BRP Teresa Magbanua and BRP Suluan, along with MV Pamamalakaya, to carry out the 'Kadiwa Para sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda (KBBM)' initiative. According to Marcos, there is an increased tension in the region due to his remarks last week, wherein he was accused by China of playing with fire. To recall, China lodged "serious protests" against the Philippines after Marcos stated the country may be drawn into a conflict between the United States and China over Taiwan. In defense, Marcos said he was perplexed with China's accusation, adding that he was only stating facts. 'Playing with fire? I was just stating facts," he said. Marcos vowed that his administration would continue to exercise the country's sovereignty in the region. ''We will continue to be present. We will continue to defend our territory. We will continue to exercise our sovereign rights. And despite any opposition from anyone, we will continue to do that as we have done in the past three years,'' Marcos said. GMA News Online asked the Chinese Embassy for comment but it has yet to issue a statement as of posting time. —KG, GMA Integrated News
