2025 Minnesota Football Predictions: Golden Gophers Ranked 69th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

This isn't your average college football ranking.
My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list:
Who do I think is good?
Why do I think they're good?
What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations?
Here is a look at where Minnesota lands in my Ultimate 136.
Minnesota ranking: 69
Last year's ranking: 72
Top player: DB Koi Perich: Two-way player who played in all 13 games as a true freshman; he is the only FBS freshman to have recorded more than 100 punt return yards, 100 kick return yards and 5 interceptions in a season since at least 1976.

RJ's take: Off the rip, seeing the Golden Gophers must travel to Ohio State, Oregon and Iowa makes the schedule one that isn't exactly friendly. But it is not so diabolical that they play Michigan or Penn State this season.

Given that P.J. Fleck has won eight or more games in three out of the last four years, it's within reason to believe the Gophers can reach that mark again.
But no one in Minneapolis should be under the impression that Minnesota will find its way into the College Football Playoff's top 25 for the first time in six years unless Fleck catches lightning in a bottle. A lot will be riding on Drake Lindsey, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound redshirt freshman QB who hasn't lost a game he's started since 2023 — when he was a junior in high school.

Vikings WR/PR Rondale Moore to miss second consecutive season due to preseason knee injury
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore got heartbreaking news this week. The Vikings announced Tuesday he'll miss the 2025 season with a left-knee injury that he sustained during Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans. Moore will now miss the entirety of a second consecutive season. Moore previously sustained a season-ending injury to his right knee during a preseason practice in 2024 as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. The Vikings didn't disclose the precise nature of his injury, but noted that it is "season-ending." He won't play in another until the 2026 season, at the earliest. Moore, 25, has played three NFL seasons since being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, all of them with the Arizona Cardinals. He was slated to return punts and work as a backup wide receiver for the Vikings this season. Moore played in 39 games, including 23 starts in Arizona from 2021-23. He's tallied 135 catches for 1,201 yards yards and three touchdowns in the NFL. He's also carried the ball 28 times for 178 yards (6.4 ypc) and a touchdown. As a returner, Moore has returned 22 punts for 182 yards (8.3 ypr) and 13 kicks for 291 yards (22.4 ypr). Moore sustained the injury while returning a punt in the second quarter of Saturday's game. He was tackled from behind by Houston linebacker Jamal Hill and immediately clutched his knee in pain. Trainers tended to Moore on the field. Moore eventually left the field on a cart with a towel draped over his head. After the game, Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell called Moore's injury "pretty significant" and announced that he would undergo an MRI to diagnose it. Moore signed with the Vikings in the offseason on a one-year, $2 million contract with $250,000 guaranteed. His injury will leave the Vikings in search of a punt return specialist and depth at wide receiver behind starters Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Addison will start the season serving a three-game suspension due to a plea deal connected to a DUI arrest from 2024.
