Social boycott of Dalits by Kapu community at Mallam village in Kakinada district withdrawn after peace committee's intervention
The social boycott of Dalits by the members of Kapu community has been withdrawn by the latter on Monday after the peace committee succeeded in convincing both the communities at Mallam village of Pithapuram Mandal in Kakinada district.
On April 16, the death of a 38-year-old electrician belonging to Dalit community sparked tension in the village, leading to the social boycott of the Dalits by the members of the Kapu community.
Kakinada District Collector Sagili Shan Mohan said that both the parties came to an understanding to live in harmony during the pact signed between them under the aegis of the peace committee. Headed by Kakinada Revenue Divisional Officer S. Mallibabu, the peace committee secured a written commitment from both the groups to live in harmony and withdrawal of the social boycott with immediate effect.
Each group was represented by the six members of the respective community. The representatives of the group are liable to maintain peace in the village. 'Any challenge pertaining to social harmony emerging from the village should be discussed in the presence of the peace committee, which is represented by people from both the communities, Revenue Department, Police and the Department of Social Welfare, and violators of the pact are liable for legal actions', said Mr. Shan Mohan in an official release.

Delhi: 'Raped' minor girl dies after being stuffed in a bag
A minor girl died after she was allegedly raped and stuffed into a suitcase in a bleeding condition in Delhi's Dayalpur area, a police official said on Sunday. The suitcase, in which the girl was found in an unconscious state, was found on the second floor of flat in Nehru Vihar on Saturday evening, hours after her family launched a hunt for her following her disappearance, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), Ashish Mishra, said, "At around 8.40 p.m. last night, a PCR call was received regarding a nine-year-old minor girl found in an injured condition." "Upon reaching the location at Gali No. 2 in Nehru Vihar, the Dayalpur police team found that a minor girl in an unconscious state had been taken to hospital by her father," he added. "Our team also reached the hospital, where doctors, after the preliminary examination, declared her dead. Signs of sexual assault were found," he said. A case has been registered at Dayalpur police station under Sections 103(1), among others, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with murder and Section 6 of the POCSO Act that deals with aggravated sexual assault, the police said. Soon after the detection of the suitcase, crime and forensic science laboratory teams inspected the spot, and multiple teams were deployed to trace the accused using CCTV footage collected from the area, the police added. The father of the deceased girl said, "We have not received any information yet. Now we are going to the mortuary for the child's post-mortem. We will find out more when we get there, as the police have called us." Earlier, the girl's family members raised an alarm when she failed to return after delivering ice at her aunt's place on Saturday afternoon. The girl's father said that inquiries in the colony revealed that a man had taken her to his flat, the police said. When the family reached the flat it was found locked. The house owner said the keys of the flat were with his brother, the police added. After the lock was broken open, the disrobed girl, in an unconscious state, was found in the suitcase, the police said.

The event was attended by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Legislative Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, State Ministers, several MPs, MLCs, MLAs, government advisors, corporation chairpersons, and senior officials. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasised the government's commitment to social justice and inclusiveness by inducting leaders from marginalised communities. He was elected as an MP from Peddapalli in 2009 and played a prominent role in the Telangana statehood movement, actively raising the issue in Parliament. Vivek's political journey saw him move between Congress, BRS, and BJP before returning to the Congress and winning from Chennur in 2023. His son Gaddam Vamsi is currently the Congress MP from Peddapalli. Adluri Laxman Kumar, currently representing the Dharmapuri constituency, has been associated with the Congress since his student days. He served in various capacities in NSUI and Youth Congress, including as General Secretary at the state level. Though he faced several electoral defeats, including in 1999, 2009, 2010, 2014, and 2018, he remained active in public life and party organisation. In 2023, he won from Dharmapuri with a majority of 22,039 votes over former minister Koppula Eshwar and was later appointed as the Government Whip.
