'Ice Cream Man,' Eli Roth's new horror film, has sold several key international rights to StudioCanal's Sixth Dimension.
The acquisition marks the first major transaction for the film out of the Cannes market, and grants StudioCanal distribution rights across the U.K., Germany, France, Benelux, Poland, Australia and New Zealand. Media Capital Technologies (MCT) and the Horror Section are fully financing and producing the movie about an idyllic summer town that descends into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results.

The Horror Section, Roth's new company, has U.S. rights to the film. It is planning to give 'Ice Cream Man' a wide theatrical release during the second quarter of 2026.
WME Independent is representing international rights to 'Ice Cream Man' and introduced it to buyers in Cannes this week.
The deal was negotiated by WME Independent and Andrew Kramer of Willkie Farr & Gallagher on behalf of the film.
'The debut of 'Ice Cream Man' at Cannes is off to a strong start, and with this kind of momentum, we're confident that this is just the beginning of an exciting journey ahead,' said MCT principals Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh. 'StudioCanal is the perfect home for what we believe to be the next great horror franchise, and we are thrilled to partner with them as we move into production.'
'When we launched Sixth Dimension at StudioCanal last year, the challenge was to find bold zeitgeisty genre movies to surprise and thrill audiences. Then along comes horror maestro Eli Roth, who StudioCanal last worked with on 'The Last Exorcism,' with his gleefully twisted 'Ice Cream Man' and leaves us helpless to resist that familiar jingle,' said Jed Benedict, head of Sixth Dimension. 'We can't wait to work with Eli Roth, MCT and The Horror Section to help build 'Ice Cream Man' into a new horror franchise.'
'Ice Cream Man' marks MCT's debut as a financier of independent film projects, an expansion from its role as Lionsgate's primary slate co-financing partner on films such a 'Saw X' and 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,' as well as the upcoming John Wick spinoff 'Ballerina' and 'The Housemaid.'
MCT is a specialty finance company focused on strategic investments in premium content. The company provides capital to media and entertainment businesses, including motion picture studios, independent production companies and other rights-holders. A range of institutional investors, including MassMutual, support the company and its investment activities.
Roth, in partnership with MCT, launched the Horror Section as a media company focused on building a strong library of intellectual property and creating a premier horror brand.
MCT is represented by CAA. Eli Roth is represented by WME.

Live Update: Trump and Musk Attack Each Other in Remarkable Break

Pinned Elon Musk and President Trump openly feuded over the Republican domestic policy bill on Thursday, with Mr. Trump criticizing Mr. Musk during an Oval Office meeting with the chancellor of Germany, and Mr. Musk replying in kind on his X, the social media platform he owns. President Trump and Elon Musk's alliance dissolved into open acrimony on Thursday, as the two men hurled personal attacks at each other after the billionaire had unleashed broadsides against the president's signature domestic policy bill. While meeting with Friedrich Merz, Germany's new chancellor, in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump broke days of uncharacteristic silence and unloaded on Mr. Musk, who until last week was a top presidential adviser. 'I'm very disappointed in Elon,' Mr. Trump said. 'I've helped Elon a lot.' As the president criticized Mr. Musk, the billionaire responded in real time on X, the social media platform he owns. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Mr. Musk wrote. 'Such ingratitude,' he added. Mr. Musk had been careful in recent days to train his ire on Republicans in Congress, not Mr. Trump himself. But he discarded with that caution on Thursday, ridiculing the president in a pattern familiar to the many previous Trump advisers who have fallen by the wayside. What started as simply a fight over the domestic policy bill sharply escalated in just a few hours. Within minutes of one another, Mr. Trump was making fun of Mr. Musk's unwillingness to wear makeup to cover a recent black eye, and Mr. Musk was raising questions about Mr. Trump's competency as president. The public break comes after a remarkable partnership between the two men. Mr. Musk deployed hundreds of millions of dollars to support Mr. Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, and after Mr. Trump won, he gave Mr. Musk free rein to slash the federal work force. And just last week, Mr. Trump gave Mr. Musk a personal send-off in the Oval Office. The president praised Mr. Musk as 'one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced' and gave him a golden key emblazoned with the White House insignia. Mr. Musk promised to remain a 'friend and adviser to the president.' But now Mr. Musk, who has left his temporary role, has turned into the most prominent critic of a top presidential priority. Mr. Musk has lashed out against the far-reaching policy bill in numerous posts on X. He has called it a 'disgusting abomination,' argued that the bill would undo all the work he did to cut government spending and hinted that he would target Republican members of Congress who backed the legislation in next year's midterm elections. Mr. Trump on Thursday said Mr. Musk's criticism of the bill was entirely self-interested, saying he only opposed the legislation after Republicans took out the electric vehicle mandate, which would benefit Tesla, Mr. Musk's electric vehicle company. (Mr. Musk has previously called for an end to those subsidies.) The president also downplayed Mr. Musk's financial support for him during the campaign, arguing he would have won Pennsylvania without Mr. Musk, who poured much of his money and time into the critical battleground state. Mr. Musk also on Thursday rebutted Mr. Trump's statement that Mr. Musk 'knew the inner workings of the bill better than anybody sitting here.' 'False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!' Mr. Musk wrote, sharing a video of Mr. Trump saying he was disappointed in Mr. Musk.

Twin Cities weekend: Giant pencil sharpening, Edina Art Fair, Prince celebration

It's that time of year again: The giant pencil at Lake of the Isles is getting its birthday sharpening. Context: Since its creation in 2022, owner John Higgins has thrown a massive annual party for the community to celebrate the 16-foot-tall pencil sculpture, carved from a tree in Higgins' front yard by chainsaw sculptor Curtis Ingvoldstad. Previous years have included "human pencil" dancers, a drum line, T-shirt cannons, professional pencil sharpener David Rees, speeches on scrolls presented by barristers and free ice cream. What to expect: The 4-foot-long giant pencil sharpener will make an appearance, but the rest of the programming is largely a mystery — though according to Higgins, the customary complimentary pencils handed out at the event will be purple in honor of Prince's birthday. 📍 Details: Saturday, June 7 from 1-2:30pm at 2217 E. Lake of the Isles Parkway, Minneapolis, rain or shine. Free! More things to do ... 💜 Remember Prince's legacy at Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis' Celebration 2025 Thursday-Sunday. This year's event honors "the vibrant era of 1985" and includes access to panels, concerts, dance parties, exclusive listening sessions of unreleased audio and more. Packages for the four-day festival start at $752.75 🎨 The Edina Art Fair returns Friday-Sunday at 50th & France with over 250 local and national artists alongside live music, three beer and wine gardens, plenty of food trucks and a specialty culinary artisan marketplace. 🌈 Kick off Pride month in the suburbs this Saturday as Golden Valley and Anoka both hold their city-wide celebrations.
