'We're becoming a team now'

BBC News12-03-2025

Luton Town are gelling and becoming a team, according to midfielder Thelo Aasgaard. The Norwegian scored his first goal for the club in Tuesday's Championship win at Cardiff, having arrived from Wigan Athletic in January. "It's hard to sum up in words but it's an unbelievable result and the lads carried out the game plan really well," Aasgaard told BBC Three Counties Radio."We knew before it was a big game but we approached it really calmly and even going 1-0 down we showed great character to stay in it and show our quality in the end."The Hatters' second victory in their past three games moves them to within two points of safety and Aasgaard feels they have shown they are more than capable of escaping the drop."The message at half-time was to 'go for it, believe in yourselves'. We got the ball in the final third but it wasn't quite there with the final pass, final cross and so it was to believe in ourselves a bit more and we did."If you get too emotionally attached during a game you can get too down but we were really calm and there's such great character in this group, we're gelling really well and we're really becoming a team now and have picked up some important wins."Luton host eighth-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday.

It's being reported that Hearts have put forward an offer to sign Uchenna Ogundu from Turkish second-tier side Sanliurfaspor. The Edinburgh Evening News claims the 19-year-old is wanted by a host of clubs across Europe, both on the continent and in the UK. Hull City, Sturm Graz, Fortuna Sittard and Gornik Zabrze have all been mentioned as interested parties. Turkish giants Fenerbahce and fellow Super Lig outfit Samsunspor have also been credited with interest. It's claimed that Fenerbahce would view him as more of a project and could potentially let the player leave on loan, keeping the door open for a move to Hearts. Ogundu has two years remaining on his contract at Sanliurfaspor. The same outlet also reported that the Jambos are in talks with Portuguese striker Claudio Braga. He could cost around in excess of £400,000 from Norwegian second-tier side Aalesund FK. Ogundu moved to Turkey last August from Diamond Academy in his native Nigeria. Robbie Neilson Released by Rangers, finding a home at Hearts, and splitting the Old Firm He scoring six goals and provided two assists in 19 appearances for Sanliurfaspor after making his debut in January. The Jambos' recruitment partner Jamestown Analytics have reportedly been monitoring the striker for some time. Ogundu stands at 6ft 2in tall and can also play as a right winger. SunSport also understands McInnes is close to completing a deal for trusted defender Stuart Findlay. The big centre-back started his career at Celtic as a youngster before heading down south to join Newcastle in 2016 - after loan spells at Morton, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock. He then became a key player under McInnes over the last two years. Hearts have already pushed through the signings of Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek wide man Alexandros Kyziridis and Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee, whilst making Belgian striker Elton Kabangu's loan a permanent transfer. Newcastle in transfer talks for Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Burnley stars

Newcastle United are looking to make a significant number of signings this summer, currently in talks to buy Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Burnley stars. The Magpies have been quiet in recent transfer windows, but after winning the Carabao Cup and earning themselves a return to the Champions League they are making moves again. Eddie Howe is hoping to strengthen a string of positions, with the forward line particularly being looked at. The left flank is covered as Howe has Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes at his disposal, but he wants competition for Alexander Isak through the middle and for Jacob Murphy on the right. The Daily Mail report that the Magpies are 'pursuing a deal' for Forest winger Anthony Elanga after an impressive season for the Sweden international. Still just 23 years old, Elanga scored six goals in 43 appearances in all competitions for Forest as they enjoyed a surprisingly good season competing in the top half of the Premier League. The Telegraph report that Newcastle are 'aware of a price for Elanga' but there has been little movement yet on a possible move. The Swede only cost Forest £15m when he joined from Manchester United in 2023, but they would likely be looking for over £50m to sell him now. Speaking to Swedish media over the international break, Elanga said: 'There is a lot of talk. 'I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.' 2024/25 Premier League stats Anthony Elanga Apps: 38Goals: 6 Assists: 11 Jacob Murphy Apps: 35Goals: 8 Assists: 12 Callum Wilson is leaving the club on a free transfer this summer so Newcastle are in need of a new striker as back-up and competition for Isak. Brighton's Joao Pedro has been touted as that man, with the Telegraph's report stating that the Brazilian is interested in a move north to St James' Park. The 23-year-old scored 10 goals in 27 Premier League games over the last campaign after netting nine times the previous season. The Seagulls are open to a sale, but have set an asking price of around £59m for the former Watford forward. At the other end of the pitch, Newcastle are interested in a new goalkeeper and want Burnley's James Trafford. Whether he would be able to displace Nick Pope straight away is not clear, but the Magpies have reportedly opened talks for the 22-year-old who was in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad. More Trending The stopper signed for Burnley from Manchester City for £15m in 2023 and has made 73 appearances for the Clarets, firstly in the Premier League and last season in the Championship as they bounced straight back to the top flight. Burnley want over £30m for their goalkeeper, with Newcastle unwilling to pay that amount, but discussions continue. Trafford had an incredible season with Burnley as they finished second in the Championship with a scarcely believable defensive record. The goalkeeper kept 29 clean sheets in 45 games, conceding just 16 goals. New Tynecastle head coach Derek McInnes is eager to add centre-forwards to his squad for next season and Ogundu is wanted alongside the Portuguese Claudio Braga. The Oxford United centre-back Stuart Findlay also close to finalising a move to Edinburgh. Ogundu, 19, played with the Turkish second-tier side Sanliurfaspor last season but is wanted by Super Lig clubs Fenerbahce and Samsunspor. Hearts have put forward an offer to sign Ogundu, although they face further competition for his signature. The player also has interest from Hull City, Sturm Graz, Fortuna Sittard and Gornik Zabrze. He is keen to play at the highest level and Fenerbahce officials have discussed signing him with a view to an immediate loan, which could also appeal to Hearts and others. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad He would bring speed and power to the Tynecastle forward line. He is 6ft 2in tall and can operate as a central striker or wide on the right. He moved to Turkey last August from Diamond Academy in his native Nigeria, scoring six goals and claiming two assists in 19 appearances for Sanliurfaspor since making his senior debut in January. His performances captured attention from scouts and his data ranked well when assessed by Hearts' recruitment partner, Jamestown Analytics. McInnes is in the midst of rebuilding the first-team squad at Riccarton. Four signings are already in place in the shape of Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis, Belgian striker Elton Kabangu and Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee. McInnes hopes to add both Braga and Ogundu to his attack and is still awaiting a final decision on whether Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland intends to extend his contract. Teenage Scotland internationalist James Wilson is also part of the squad and will compete for game time next season. Latest news on Hearts transfer targets - Arzani and Chesnokov deals In addition to players mentioned above, Hearts have made an approach to sign the Australian international winger Daniel Arzani. He has interest from other clubs in Europe and Asia. Negotiations are continuing as Hearts try to sign the Kazakhstan international forward Islam Chesnokov. He is willing to sign a pre-contract agreement to move to Edinburgh in November but Tynecastle management would prefer a quick deal this summer. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad McInnes has already stated that he sees Wilson as a player who can develop further having watched him emerge from the Riccarton youth academy and play regularly under previous Hearts managers Steven Naismith and Neil Critchley. 'He's one of a few academy products that have come through at the club,' said McInnes. 'Credit to Naisy and Neil who played him. 'Obviously, being involved in the Scotland set-up elevates him. I remember playing a closed-door game against Naisy's team at Rugby Park a while back. The boy came on and I liked him right away. His movement is really top-class in and around the box. He works in tight spaces and he's proven that he's a good footballer. 'He can see that and he knows his way to goal. So the more goal threats you have, the better. It's getting that balance, having the right type of strikers. I want to work with four or five strikers at the top end of the pitch and everybody's got to be able to give something a wee bit different. I think James is one of the boys that's got a lot to offer.'
