Soaps Shocker: Erika Slezak Joins General Hospital! Here's What We Know So Far

Daytime-TV royalty is returning home. The great Erika Slezak — a record-holding six-time Daytime Emmy winner for her run as One Life to Live's Viki (and sometimes Niki et al) — has inked a short-term deal to appear on ABC's General Hospital. More from TVLine The Pitt Season 2 Adds Four, Including a Familiar Face From Breaking Bad Roseanne Barr Claims The Conners Wanted Her Back - Here's What the EPs Told Us About a Possible Cameo Chris Robinson, of General Hospital and Bold and Beautiful, Dead at 86 The jaw-dropping news was delivered via Slezak's longtime fan club president, Walter Miller. 'Erika has just informed me she has signed a short-term contract with ABC's General Hospital,' Miller posted to on Thursday. 'At this time, Erika does not know which character she will be playing or when her scenes will air, but [she] is excited to be working again with executive producer Frank Valentini and the cast of GH!' Valentini was the boss at OLTL from 2003 until its very end. 'I am thrilled to confirm that my dear friend and former One Life to Live colleague, Erika Slezak, will appear on General Hospital this fall,' Valentini confirmed via X. 'Stay tuned as we prepare to introduce another daytime legend to Port Charles.' The daughter of Tony Award-winning Austrian actor Walter Slezak (but no relation to TVLine alumni Michael), Slezak famously first auditioned for All My Children and the role of nurse Mary Kennicott back in 1971 — albeit unsuccessfully. Instead, and fortuitously, she was offered the role of OLTL's Victoria 'Viki' Lord Riley. She made her OLTL debut in 1971, and stuck with it until 2013 — including as part of the show's short-lived, dying breath on Prospect Park's The Online Network. Slezak earned her first Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 1983, grabbed gold for the first time the following year, and then claimed Emmys again in 1986, 1992, 1995 and 1996. (Yes, she holds the record for most wins in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.) Since OLTL's true and sincere end, Slezak has been spotted guest-starring on primetime series including Blue Bloods and The Resident. Who do think Slezak will be playing on ? Is CGI-Heavy Big Bang Theory Spinoff Poised to Be a Superhero Satire?

The latest Big Bang Theory universe expansion has the potential to look and feel unlike any offshoot that came before it — and based on several clues, I'm beginning to think it will. Whereas Young Sheldon served as a prequel chronicling Sheldon Cooper's childhood, and sequel-to-the-prequel Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has continued that story but shifted focus to Sheldon's older brother and sister-in-law, HBO Max's Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will serve as a direct continuation, and pick up after the events of Big Bang's 2019 series finale. More from TVLine Mayim Bialik Talks Reuniting With Melissa Rauch on Night Court and the Possibility of Reprising Amy on New Big Bang Theory Spinoff Big Bang Theory Spinoff Cast Unites for First Table Read in New Photos — Here's Everything We Know So Far And Just Like That EP Talks Working With Season 3's Top Scene Stealer: Carrie's Cat As previously reported, Kevin Sussman (aka Stuart) will be joined on the show by fellow franchise vets Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler) and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) — a quartet that, with the exception of Sussman and Lapkus, rarely (if ever) interacted. And while plot details remain under wraps, we do know that Season 1 has already been written ahead of an official series order, and screenwriter Zak Penn — whose myriad credits include The Avengers, Ready Player One and Free Guy — wrote all 10 episodes with original series co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. Earlier this week, Lorre let slip that Stuart Fails… will feature 'a lot of CGI' — and that piece of intel, combined with the prospective series' title, leads me to believe that this new show won't be rooted in reality, per se. Instead, it will see the perpetually down-on-his-luck comic book store owner conceive of his own graphic novel centered on a B-team Justice League — a motley crew of underestimated superheroes who look a lot like Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke, and who all have started to believe what everyone else thinks of them: that they're incapable of greatness. But all that will change once the future of humanity is called into question by an otherworldly threat, and the actual Justice League is preoccupied/unable to save the day. And perhaps Stuart will narrate, borrowing a narrative device from Young Sheldon (whose series finale revealed that Dr. Cooper was recounting his East Texas upbringing as part of his memoir). So, that's my working (Big Bang) theory! TVLine will keep you posted as we learn more about Stuart Fails to Save the Universe — and whether my prediction is right. But for now, leave a comment and let me know what sort of spinoff you're anticipating.
