Tom Daley says you're storing knitwear wrong and shares 'no-stretch' method
Olympic diver and knitting enthusiast Tom Daley has shared the best way to store your knitwear without risking them stretching or misshapen when you hang them in your wardrobe - and people are impressed Former Olympic diver Tom Daley has become known for taking his knitting hobby with him to competitions. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Daley was often seen knitting or crocheting when he was sitting on the stands, waiting for his turn. Speaking on the Kelly Clarkson show about where he got the idea to try knitting and crocheting, Tom revealed it had been his husband, director Dustin Lance Black's idea. He revealed: "My coach said to me that I'm so bad at just sitting still and resting and recovering on the weekend. So it was my husband who said, 'some people on film sets just knit or crochet to pass the time' and I was like, 'I'll try that'." Since first been seen knitting in March 2020, Tom was often seen working on a new crochet or knitting project when he attends competitions, even when he competed in the Olympics. And because of people's interest in his knitting projects, the former diver decided to start his own knitwear clothing line as well as his yarn The Cottony One, which is made from a plant-powered cotton blend rather than a sheep's wool. Because of this, you could say that Tom has become somewhat of an expert in knitwear and everything that comes with it. And to share his knowledge, he took to social media to urge people to change the way they're storing their knitted clothes. "All these years, you've probably been hanging your knitwear wrong," Tom said in his video. "I'm going to show you how to hang your knitwear, whether its handmade or not, so it doesn't get misshapen." Holding up his infamous 'don't drink and dive' jumper that he made himself, Tom went on to show what he claims is the best way to store your knitted jumpers between wears. "First, you're going to take your jumper, fold it in half so that the sleeves are touching," he explained as he folded his jumper. "Then, you're going to take your hanger, put it in the armpit like that. Then you're going to fold one side over the other side over." As he said this, he showed how he but the hanger so that the hook was poking out by the 'armpits' of the jumper. He then folded the bottom part of the jumper to meet the neckline. Finally, he folded the sleeves over the rest of the jumper before lifting it up with the hanger. "And then it hangs like that," he said. "And you'll never get your knits to be misshapen ever again." People soon took to the comments to share their thoughts on Tom's hack, with many saying they were 'too scared' to hang their knitted clothes on hangers in case they stretch or get misshapen. One person commented: "I just fold them and keep them on a shelf, too scared of the stitches stretching if I hang them in any sort of way lol." "Hanging clothing lets the air circulate better around it, keeps it fresher than folding," another person said. However, others were eager to try the folding method, as another viewer said: "I've been doing it right! yesssss!!!! I didn't know you could do this with handmade knits though! thank you Tom!!"

Will Young: 'When I came out in the 00s being threatened was a given'
Will Young is synonymous with 00s Britain, having won the first series of Pop Idol in 2002. Through the show, Will, now 46, earned pop superstar status with his debut track Anything is Possible, and with his nine albums that followed, he became a household name and LGBTQ+ legend. While many fans will recall the huge explosion of media interest when he came out as gay shortly after the show, if it were to happen today, Will is happy to say no one would care. 'I mean, it's like chalk and cheese now,' Will tells Metro this Pride Month. 'I don't often really remember the sort of mini traumas that would occur being openly gay and a public figure in the early 2000s. It was so different then.' Will, then, a charming 22-year-old adjusting his eyes to the spotlight, wouldn't have thought it was possible to be where we are in 2025. 'There was no legal support, you couldn't get married. You just operated within how it was then, which was like, 'Well, I'm going to get shouted out, I'm going to get threatened. No one's gonna care.' That was a given, which seems bonkers now to think like that,' he says. When Will reflects on this time, he does so with even more respect for those who came before him in the 80s and 90s; the likes of singer Jimmy Somerville, Erasure's Andy Bell, Pet Shop Boys star Neil Tennant, and actor Ian McKellen. With thousands of members from all over the world, our vibrant LGBTQ+ WhatsApp channel is a hub for all the latest news and important issues that face the LGBTQ+ community. Simply click on this link, select 'Join Chat' and you're in! Don't forget to turn on notifications! 'We have to remember those people and those before them, because they were pretty seminal,' Will says. Our chat comes just as the international human rights group ILGA-Europe ranked 49 countries on their legal and policy practices for LGBTQ+ people. The results found the UK, twice top of the ranking in 2011 and 2015, has dropped to 22nd, from 16th place last year. Has Will noticed this shift? 'Wow, that's so interesting,' he says, thinking: 'I mean, I don't think I have… That rather surprises me. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was focusing on the T part of that.' More Trending Here, Will refers to the treatment of the trans community in the UK, who are often the subject of intense political scrutiny and are more likely to be subject to harassment and violence than cis people. 'You know, that's just horrific,' Will says of the UK's treatment of trans people, with a twang of exasperation. 'That's horrific across the board, how it's been politicised. It's ridiculous. It's 0.5% of people, and it's but it's always in the top 10 of anything political. It's typical marginalisation.' Will's advocacy knows no bounds, and he recently revealed how he's considering fostering children or becoming a school counsellor, putting his parental instincts to good use. Got a story? Rylan says Celebrity Gogglebox had to cut out 'career-ending' conversations'
Rylan Clark has revealed how Celebrity Gogglebox editors have had to cut potentially 'career-ending' conversations out of his appearances with mum Linda. The former X Factor contestant, 36, and his mother, 72, first appeared on the celebrity edition of the popular Channel 4 programme in 2019. Since then, they have become one of its most popular pairings due to their affectionate, humourous relationship – with many calling for them to have their own spin-off show. With series seven airing this month, Rylan and Linda join a line-up which also includes the likes of Dani and Danny Dyer, Martin and Roman Kemp, James and Clair Buckley, and Shaun Ryder and Bez. To celebrate, Rylan and Linda joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on a very different sofa, to appear on This Morning. As they opened up about their Gogglebox appearances, Rylan shared how he and Linda often had to beg editors to leave out more risqué conversations. Of her son's acerbic wit, Linda said: 'When he mucks about, I go, 'Please don't put that bit in.'' 'We're lucky that the editors clearly like us, because the stuff they've had to cut out is career-ending,' Rylan agreed. '[I say] 'Don't you dare say what I just said,'' Linda revealed. 'We're like, 'Yeah, can we not use that, please',' the Big Brother's Bit on the Side host laughed. Earlier this month, fans celebrated Rylan and Linda's return to Celebrity Gogglebox, with RebelDiamond writing on X: 'I adore #Rylan & his mum!! 😂😂❤️' 'Rylan's mum cracks me up! 😂' exclaimed Samanth22356123. 'YESSS!!! Rylan n Linda back on gogglebox😍🥰' ChloeGunn1798 cheered. During their time on the show, audiences have particularly enjoyed Linda getting to grips with some raunchier material while a mortified Rylan looks on. One such incident in 2020 saw mother and son settle down to watch the 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct. As police detective Nick (Michael Douglas) inspected a crime scene in the film, Linda misheard one particularly raunchy line – leaving Rylan in stitches. 'Gum stains? Did he say gum stains?' asked a confused Linda after Nick was informed that there had been 'c** stains all over the sheets.' 'What did he say? Gum stains? What did he say?' In a fit of giggles, Rylan screamed: 'No! Shut up! Not gum…' To which she replied: 'Oh! Not 'c**' Did he say that? I thought he said gum.' Other fan favourite moments from the pair include a less X-rated incident from the Platinum Jubilee… in which Rylan was forced to explain that Paddington isn't a real bear. For anyone saying im horrible to mum please get a sense of humour, she got her sushi…. Also built her a house, whatever she asks for, and a new hedge trimmer this week….. she's good . Look after your mums, and also have a laugh with them x until next year x — R Y L A N (@Rylan) July 15, 2022 In 2022, Rylan hit back at claims that he was 'horrible' to his mum, defending a clip where he'd mocked her pronunciation of the word 'sushi' (or 'suchet,' as she says it). More Trending 'For anyone saying im horrible to mum please get a sense of humour, she got her sushi….' the Radio 2 host clapped back on X.
