CM Yogi Adityanath slams SP: ‘Turned education sector into cheating hub'

CHIEF MINISTER Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday hit out at the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying that they are 'now criticising genuine reform although during their rule, the education sector had been turned into a hub of malpractice, chaos and caste politics.' Adityanath was addressing a gathering after inaugurating an Atal Residential School in Moradabad. His remarks came amid ongoing protests by the SP against the state government's pairing policy of schools by organising 'PDA pathshalas' in several districts. Calling the SP 'Kaurav Dal,' the CM went on to say that SP intends to teach children 'Ga se gadha' instead of 'ga se Ganpati.' He said that those who earlier 'came to power through appeasement politics now find themselves politically irrelevant — neither connected to society nor concerned about future generations.' The CM said, 'Power was once treated as a platform for appeasement, turning education into a hub of cheating, chaos, and caste politics.' He added, 'Today, those same people are suddenly concerned about public satisfaction.' Adityanath also questioned SP leaders' claims about 'PDA', citing that party's 'poor track record' in the education sector. He claimed that during the late Kalyan Singh's government, when students were taught 'ga se Ganesha', SP leaders objected to this and demanded that it be changed to 'ga se gadha'. 'This reflects their mindset,' said the CM, pointing out that while the BJP seeks to instill Indian culture and values in children, 'SP leaders had no qualms about insulting deities such as Lord Ganesha.' Adityanath said, 'When they were in power, timely recruitment of teachers was not done nor were any serious efforts to improve educational standards. The entire administrative and academic ecosystem was crippled by nepotism and caste-based politics in the past.' He also said that earlier, criminal elements operated with impunity in almost every district, dragging the state into an era of anarchy and communal unrest. 'For them, mass cheating was a right, not a crime. They gambled with the future of our youths through systematic exam fraud,' he added. Dedicating the new school to the children of labourers' families in the Moradabad division, Adityanath described it as a 'temple of education' established in the memory of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during his birth centenary year. Till date, 18 Atal Residential Schools have been established across Uttar Pradesh, providing free, high-quality education to over 18,000 children of labourers and orphans. Lucknow: Calling the Kanwar Yatra a 'symbol of unity', Adityanath on Wednesday hit out at opposition parties for doing 'politics of appeasement', pointing out that certain anti-social elements had conspired to tarnish the image of the Kanwar Yatra but 'such attempts failed due to proactive administrative efforts as well as the alertness and awareness of the society.' He was addressing a gathering during his visit to Bareilly, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 545 development projects worth Rs 2,264 crore. The CM said, 'Some individuals had tried to insult public sentiments and defame the Kanwar Yatra, but the alertness of society and the state's strong law-and-order machinery foiled such efforts.' 'The BJP government is committed to blending heritage with development. Bareilly, which in the past saw frequent communal riots before 2017, is now gaining fame for the Nath Corridor and spiritual tourism,' he added. ENS

From uncle-nephew era to Kanwar Yatra, Yogi Adityanath fires salvos in Bareilly

Accusing the previous regime of running a 'jobs-for-family' model, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday asserted that the so-called 'uncle-nephew' era of recruitment had ended and had been replaced with a transparent and merit-driven system. (HT Photo) He also said that attempts to defame the Kanwar Yatra had repeatedly failed due to the vigilance of society and the proactive stance of the administration. Adityanath, who was addressing a public gathering at Bareilly college ground after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore, also said that the yatra is now a symbol of unity and devotion. He also handed over appointment letters to over 6,000 youth during the Rozgar Mela. 'Before 2017, government jobs were distributed like personal inheritance—limited to the circles of uncles, nephews, and family loyalists,' the chief minister said. 'Today, youth from every corner, caste, and community are getting jobs based purely on merit.' Over 8.5 lakh government jobs have been given in the last eight years, Yogi noted. He underscored the state's improved law-and-order situation. 'Earlier, districts were handed out to mafias like property. Today, each district has its identity shaped by progress — through initiatives like One District One Medical College and One District One Product,' he said. Reflecting on Bareilly's transformation, Adityanath said, 'This city once made headlines for riots. Today, it's being recognised for the Nath Corridor, Jalabhishek and spiritual tourism.' About the Kanwar Yatra, he said, 'Attempts were made to hurt people's sentiments and defame the yatra, but the resolve of an awakened society and effective law and order crushed those intentions. Today, lakhs of devotees perform jalabhishek in Bareilly's Nath Corridor - this is becoming the new identity of the city. Now, the Yatra stands for unity.' Temples like Alakhnath, Tripathinath, Gopeshwarnath and Pashupatinath are being developed into major spiritual destinations under the Nath Corridor plan, drawing lakhs of devotees and creating allied opportunities in hospitality, transport and retail. During the Rozgar Mela, the chief minister urged the youth to be role models. He also advised elected leaders to publicly honour these newly recruited youth, to ignite aspirations in others. He promoted the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Yojana, under which youth can avail interest-free, collateral-free loans starting from ₹5 lakh and going up to ₹10 lakh upon timely repayment. 'Opportunities are no longer for the few, but for every deserving young citizen,' he said. The chief minister's visit also saw the inauguration of 222 projects worth ₹1,258 crore and the foundation-laying of 323 more worth ₹1,004 crore. These span road-widening, flood protection, power and municipal infrastructure, rural drinking water supply, and the Nath Corridor. Projects like the Unani Medical College, Ramganga Flood Protection, and upgraded road networks are expected to generate both direct and indirect employment while boosting connectivity and services in the region. Reiterating the motto of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, the CM said his government ensures that every scheme, from housing to employment, reaches all sections without discrimination. 'This is not a government of caste and vote banks. This is a government of performance,' he said. The chief minister announced free bus travel for women on August 8, 9, and 10 on the occasion of Rakshabandhan — applicable to both UPSRTC and city transport buses. Women passengers will also be allowed to take along one co-traveller for free. Ahead of Independence Day and Janmashtami, the CM called for a statewide cleanliness campaign, urging citizens to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. In a meeting with public representatives of Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and Budaun, Yogi said that future project priorities would be aligned with local needs.

Janmashtami to be celebrated at every police station: Yogi

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said Janmashtami would be celebrated at every police station and police training institute in the state on Aug 16. "The occasion would provide trainees with an opportunity to showcase their cultural and artistic talents, making the festival a symbol of cultural unity," Yogi made this announcement during his visit to Moradabad where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 87 development projects worth Rs 1,172 crore. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of having tried to restrict Janmashtami celebrations when it was in power, Yogi said his govt would ensure grand celebrations across the state. Referring to the result of the Kundarki bypoll held in Nov 2024, where BJP trumped the SP candidate in a Muslim majority area, the CM called it Moradabad's rejection of SP's and Congress' divisive politics. "The public chose satisfaction over appeasement, leading to the forfeiture of SP-Congress deposits," he said. Highlighting the global recognition which Moradabad's handicraft are getting, the CM said "It was the commitment of BJP's double-engine government to elevate the city and its products on the world stage. Once known for chaos and hooliganism, Moradabad is now renowned for its excellent handicrafts and brass items under the ODOP scheme, exporting products worth Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 crore." He added that Moradabad's artists, including one who received a Padma award, are working tirelessly to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India.
