Babbar Khalsa International linked grenade attack at ex-Punjab Minister Kalia's house: NIA raids 18 places in Punjab, Haryana, UP
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): As part of its ongoing investigation in the recent Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) linked grenade attack at the residence of former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted a series of searches across the state as well as in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the agency said.
NIA teams carried out searches at 18 locations in the three northern states this morning, and seized various incriminating materials, including mobiles and digital devices and documents.
As per the NIA, the searches were conducted at the premises of suspects linked with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Kulbir Sidhu, US-based gangster Manish alias Kaka Rana, and their nodes based in India and various other countries.
Kulbir Sidhu, originally from Yamunanagar in Haryana, is currently in Germany and is a key aide of designated terrorist and BKI chief, Pakistan-based Wadhawa Singh Babbar. Sidhu is also an accused in a case related to the murder of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in Nangal, Punjab, in April 2024.
The terror attack on the Punjab ex-minister's house in Jalandhar was committed on the night of April 7, 2025 by accused Saidul Ameen, who was arrested by the state police on April 12. This was one of the series of grenade attacks carried out by BKI operatives in the state of Punjab, on the directions of foreign-based handlers of the proscribed terrorist organisation.
While in Punjab, today's searches were carried out in Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Mansa districts, in Haryana the NIA teams cracked down in the districts of Kurukshetra, Yamuna Nagar, Karnal and Ambala. Extensive searches were also conducted in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.
NIA, which took over the probe from Punjab Police on April 12, 2025, is continuing with its investigation in the case. (ANI)

UP govt expedites process to recover Rs 650cr dues from toll collection firms
1 2 Lucknow: The UP govt has to recover more than Rs 650 crore dues from the highway toll management companies. Following the Bhadohi case — where a Delhi-based firm secured lease for toll collection in UP by paying just Rs 100 stamp duty instead of Rs 63 cores — the stamp and registration department carried out an audit to find the status of all pending recovery cases. The stamp and registration department has started reaching out to the district administration in 31 districts to expedite the recovery process. A total of 95 cases pertaining to evasion of stamp duty by toll companies have been detected. While the majority of cases are pending with operators who entered into an agreement with the National Highways Authority of India, operators engaged by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority for toll collection over expressways are also yet to make payments. Among the 95 cases, 23 cases are sub-judice while 72 cases are pending before collectors in various districts. Among the 72, recovery proceedings have been initiated against the promoters of 17 private agencies engaged for toll collection. While the company engaged by NHAI to manage the Meerut expressway has the highest stamp duty dues of around Rs 26 crore, the one managing the Lucknow–Rae Bareli national highway has to pay Rs 10 crore. Interestingly, 15 out of 95 toll operators had entered into an agreement with NHAI on stamp paper worth Rs 100, whereas, as per the estimates prepared by the department, such companies need to cough up Rs 130.40 crore. Though in some cases the procedure to recover the amount was initiated more than five years ago, the matter picked pace only from Oct last year after the state govt urged the district collectors to expedite the process. Uttarakhand CM directs officials to run special campaigns to resolve pending complaints
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 26 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to run a special campaign to resolve complaints pending for more than 180 days in the CM Helpline 1905. Expressing displeasure, the Chief Minister issued strict instructions to the officials, stating that action would be taken against officers who failed to dispose of the cases promptly. While instructing not to close public complaints unnecessarily, he stated that more effective efforts should be made to bring the CM Helpline up to the best practices of the state. While reviewing CM Helpline 1905 in the Secretariat on Thursday, the Chief Minister directed officials to organise Tehsil Diwas across the entire state on a single day. The Chief Minister directed all District Magistrates to organise Janta Darshan, Tehsil Diwas, and BDC meetings regularly for the speedy resolution of public problems. 'Encroachment and verification campaigns should be run more effectively by the police and administration together. Work should be done rapidly towards making two villages in each district as Adarsh Gram, for this, nodal officers should be appointed in all the districts soon,' CM Dhami said. The Chief Minister directed that wherever the condition of electricity poles and transformers is bad in the state, they should be replaced immediately. 'Safety audit of all transformers should also be done. It should be ensured that there is no problem of low voltage and hanging electricity wires; if such cases are found, strict action will be taken against the concerned officers,' he said. The Chief Minister directed the officers associated with all the authorities to ensure that there is no pendency in passing the maps of people's houses. He said that the three districts that become TB-free first will be honoured. The Chief Minister praised the Transport, Agriculture, Social Welfare, Excise, and Energy Departments for their efforts in resolving complaints through the CM Helpline. The Chief Minister directed the Public Works Department, Geology and Mining, Revenue, Home, and Finance Departments to expedite the redressal of complaints further. The CM Helpline is receiving more complaints related to drinking water, street light maintenance, connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, power cuts, and electricity bills. The Chief Minister also spoke to the complainants of the CM Helpline during the meeting. On the complaint of Upendra Singh Rawat of Uttarkashi regarding the drinking water line, the Chief Minister directed the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi to resolve his problem within a week. Alam from Haridwar had complained about street lights; his problem has been resolved. Hridesh Negi of Dehradun said that work has started on his complaint regarding the construction of a culvert. Gaurav Nautiyal of Chamoli's complaint regarding drinking water has also been resolved. Devendra's complaint about low voltage from Nainital has also been resolved. (ANI)

India's oil import from Iran
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs clarified India's position on importing crude oil from Iran on thursday, stating that energy purchases are based on 'market factors and the prevailing global situation.' 'Our energy requirements, or the energy purchases we make, are based on market factors and the prevailing global situation,' MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in THEIR weekly briefing. Further, the Ministry also expressed deep concerns about the situation in West Asia, including the Israeli attacks on nuclear scientists and certain universities in Iran. In response to a question about targeting science students and scientists, the MEA spokesperson emphasised India's commitment to peace and diplomacy. 'As you would have seen in our statement earlier as well, we expressed deep concerns about the recent escalation of the situation in West Asia, including the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities. Subsequently, we have welcomed the ceasefire, as you would have seen,' Jaiswal stated. The MEA spokesperson noted that India is closely monitoring updates from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the radiation levels at the affected sites. 'India is closely following updates from the IAEA about the radiation levels in the affected sites,' the spokesperson said. 'We have noted that so far, IAEA has reported that the targeted facilities either confirmed no nuclear material or small quantities of natural or low-enriched uranium, and that radioactive contamination has been limited to the buildings affected by the strikes. We urge a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy for an early restoration of regional peace, security, and stability,' Jaiswal affirmed. (ANI)
