And Mr Trump is understood to be set to meet John Swinney this morning - before flying home at around 4pm. It will be the first time the President and Mr Swinney have met since they clashed in November last year when the SNP leader called on US voters to back his Democratic rival Kamala Harris in the US Presidential election - leading his UK-based business to slam the endorsement as an 'insult'. The President will open the 'new course' at Trump International in Menie, just north of Aberdeen, at a 'grand opening' ceremony from 10am. Trump International's 'new course' is the second at the venue since the newly named 'old course' opened in 2012. The new 18 holes measures 7,589 yards - with Trump International now self-styled as the 'greatest 36 holes in golf'. Mr Trump will make a short speech on the first tee of the course before playing a round. He will speak in front of gathered press and select VIPs before formally opening the new course. The President's son, Eric Trump, led the design process, with the course including the world's largest natural bunker, 'mountainous dune formations' and so-called 'infinity-style greens'. The course states: 'The New Course incorporates a variety of natural Scottish landscapes, including some of the country's largest sand dunes, heathlands and wetland areas. 'The New Course is the result of a design process led by Eric Trump, supported by a team of experienced golf architects, engineers, agronomists, and environmental consultants. 'The project builds on the original links masterplan developed by renowned golf architect Dr Martin Hawtree.' On Monday, Mr Trump hosted an 80-minute televised press conference with the Prime Minister after meeting with Sir Keir Starmer at his other golf course at Turnberry, Ayrshire. In it, he blasted wind power - slamming wind turbines as 'ugly monsters' - and urged more drilling in the North Sea. And he poured cold water on the possibility of a second independence referendum within the next '50 or 75 years'. Mr Trump also called on the Prime Minister to cut taxes and crack down on illegal immigration to beat the challenge of Reform UK's leader Nigel Farage. He also spoke of his love for Scotland due to his late mother's birthplace being in the Isle of Lewis and said: 'My mother loved Scotland. This is a part of the world I want to see thrive.' The second course at Trump International is expected to be dedicated to the president's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who was born on the Isle of Lewis. Critics say the Trump developments in Scotland have not delivered as many jobs as promised and work at the Menie site has caused environmental damage.

Scottish bus company unveils major deal in 'key market'
Leeds-based Tetley's Motor Services operates from a large depot which it owns in the centre of the Yorkshire city, FirstGroup noted as it announced the purchase of this business. The [[Aberdeen]] group, noting Tetley's is a "profitable" business in a "key" market, observed this depot is 'adjacent to the…existing First Bus Hunslet Park depot'. Tetley's has a fleet of 55 coaches and buses and 'a diverse portfolio of high-capacity adjacent services contracts including for schools, universities, workplace shuttles and private hire in central Leeds and throughout the West Yorkshire Combined Authority area', FirstGroup observed. The Scottish company added that a 'high proportion' of the contract portfolio of Tetley's has recently been renewed. For the 12 months to March 31, 2024, Tetley's reported revenues of £5.3 million and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of £1.4m. FirstGroup said that Ian Tetley, managing director of Tetley's, will 'remain with the business as a director while it is integrated into First Bus'. At the end of February, it completed the purchase of RATP Dev Transit London Limited and its subsidiaries, declaring that the acquisition of this major operator owned by the French government facilitated 'the group's entry into the London bus market with a strong position and supports the group's strategy of growing and diversifying its revenue base'. Also in February, FirstGroup announced the purchase of a family-owned coach and bus operator in Ireland founded about three decades ago, Matthews Coach Hire.

Berlusconi-backed MFE lifts bid for Germany's ProSieben in European TV drama
MILAN/MUNICH, July 28 (Reuters) - MFE-MediaForEurope (MFE) ( opens new tab, the TV group controlled by Italy's Berlusconi family, on Monday improved its cash-and-share offer for German peer ProSiebenSat.1 ( opens new tab as it pursues plans to build an advertising-funded pan-European broadcaster. With streaming giants such as Netflix (NFLX.O), opens new tab and Amazon Prime Video (AMZN.O), opens new tab encroaching upon legacy broadcasters, MFE sees cross-border deals as vital to withstand competition. "What is needed is a push to build what is still lacking: a strong, locally rooted European group of sufficient size to compete globally," MFE Chief Executive Pier Silvio Berlusconi said in a statement. MFE boosted the share component of its initial bid, which had been pitched at the minimum price allowed by law, and is now offering 1.3 billion euros ($1.5 billion) for the 70% of ProSieben it doesn't already own, with a 45% increase in the bid's value based on Friday's closing prices. The improved offer is higher than an all-cash counter-bid by ProSieben's second largest investor PPF. MFE is now offering 1.3 MFE A shares for each ProSieben share tendered, with the cash component unchanged at 4.48 euros. Shares in ProSieben jumped 11% on Monday to 7.87 euros, while MFE A shares fell 5.6%, which implies the bid values each ProSieben share at 7.94 euros. Czech conglomerate PPF, which owns private TV stations across six Eastern European countries, in May offered 7 euros to double its stake in the German broadcaster to up to 29.99%. A source familiar with PPF's thinking said MFE's bid remained unattractive for many ProSieben investors, given it contained just more shares and with lower voting rights compared with MFE's privileged shares. PPF declined to comment. Take-up of both offers has been negligible so far. MFE's bid for Munich-based ProSieben has drawn scrutiny from the German government. "A majority shareholding by MFE should not lead to a restriction of journalistic and economic independence and should not jeopardise Germany as a business location," a German government spokesperson said on Monday, echoing concerns expressed by Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer. In announcing the improved offer on Monday, the MFE CEO, the son of the late former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, said the group would stick to pluralism, freedom of information and employment protection. Berlusconi is due to meet the culture minister in Berlin after the summer break to discuss ProSieben. A person familiar with the matter said MFE had informed Berlin of its plan to raise its bid ahead of a weekend board meeting. MFE, which first invested in ProSieben in 2019, runs commercial TV operations in Italy and Spain. In an analyst presentation seen by Reuters, MFE pegged up to 419 million euros of additional operating profit within four years. Revenue initiatives, such as building a common platform for global advertisers, would generate nearly 46% of the upside. In a battle to catch up with U.S. heavyweights, European broadcaster RTL, which has large TV operations in Germany, last month announced an agreement to buy the local operations of pay TV group Sky. ProSieben, which has so far strived to remain independent, on Monday welcomed MFE's improved offer, adding its board would formulate a proper opinion in due course. CEO Bert Habets said the company is supportive of "a pan-European project, working closely together also with MFE", adding it would assess value creation potential mentioned by MFE.
