Thousands witness celestial wedding of Renuka Yellamma at Balkampet
The Kalyanam was held at 11.55 am. The Endowments Minister Konda Surekha offered silk clothes to the goddesses. Kalyanam is orgainsed on the first Tuesday of Ashada Masam.
The devotees were lined up before the temple from 5 am on Tuesday. The temple authorities organised queue lines and VIP entries. A large number of devotees and Shiva Sattulu thronged to the temple premises to witness the wedding.
The rush was so huge that it took five hours for the devotees to have darshan. The Kalyanotsavam are taken up for three days. On the first day there will be 'Edurukolu', Kalyanam on second day and Rathotsavam on the third day.
Minister Konda Surekha said that Balkampet Yellamma is the deity who relieves the sufferings of the people of Hyderabad. She reminded that there was a buzz of Bonalu in the areas around Hyderabad during the month of Ashadham.
The minister said that the Bonalu culture came during a time when a pandemic was raging here in the past. It is the belief of the people here that when a disaster struck the great city of Hyderabad and hundreds of people were dying, Balkampet Yellamma saved the lives of many people by protecting them. She said that the Bonalu festival has become a great celebration for the people here.
The Minister said that this time, the government led by CM A Revanth Reddy allocated Rs 20 crores and ensured that there was no problem anywhere. He reminded that lakhs of devotees come to see the goddess every year... All arrangements have been made for that.
She said that she was very lucky to have the opportunity to offer silk clothes to the goddess on behalf of the state government. She prayed to the goddess for good rains and good health for the crops.
The traffic police imposed traffic restricts on the Balkampet road. The city police commissioner CV Anand supervised the arrangements. He inspected the control room and cctv surveillance center and accessed overall preparedness to ensure effective crowd management and public safety.
Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, City Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi, Hyderabad Collector Hari Chandana and others participated in this program.

India Has Seen 157 ‘Consequential' Train Accidents Since 2021-22: Railways
The ministry said that in 2025-26, up to June, three consequential train accidents have been reported on the Indian Railways network—about one per month on average Indian Railways has reported an average of three 'consequential" train accidents per month since 2021-22, as the country reported 157 such mishaps in the last 51 months, data analysed by News18 shows. Train accidents can be broadly divided into two categories: consequential and non-consequential. Consequential are those with serious repercussions in terms of loss of human life or injury, damage to railway property, or interruption to rail traffic of laid-down threshold levels and values. These include collisions, fire, derailment, and accidents at the level crossings. A total of 35 consequential train accidents—about three per month—were reported in 2021-22, the railway ministry told Rajya Sabha on Friday. In 2022-23, it increased to 48, about four per month on average. The next year, 2023-24, India saw 40 consequential train accidents, more than three per month on average. In the last financial year, 2024-25, there were 31 consequential train accidents, about three (2.6) accidents per month. The inquiry committees, after due deliberations, submit their findings and recommendations on various accidents. Appropriate action is taken by the respective railway administration for the implementation of the recommendations suggested by the agencies in their report. 'Safety is accorded the highest priority on Indian Railways. As a consequence of various safety measures taken over the years, there has been a steep decline in the number of accidents," the ministry said. Listing the efforts made by the ministry to ensure safety, the reply said that Kavach is a highly technology-intensive system, which requires safety certification of the highest order. 'Kavach was adopted as a National ATP system in July 2020. Kavach is provided progressively in a phased manner…Kavach has been successfully commissioned over the Kota-Mathura section (Delhi-Mumbai route) covering 324 Route Kilometres on July 30," the ministry said. It added that Kavach has already been deployed on 1,548 RKm on South Central Railway and North Central Railway. India undertook plantations over 93.7 lakh ha of land in last 5 years: Govt
New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI) India untertook plantations over 93.7 lakh hectares of land in the last five years under various schemes, with Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat recording the highest plantation areas, the Centre said on Thursday. Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Environment, Kirti Vardhan Singh, said the government is currently carrying out afforestation and tree plantation under the overarching theme of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign launched on June 5, 2024. The initiative aims to increase the country's green cover through voluntary planting of trees involving a 'Whole of Government" and 'Whole of Society" approach. Singh said afforestation is being implemented through the existing schemes such as the National Mission for Green India, Nagar Van Yojana, Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitat and Tangible Benefits (MISHTI), and the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), along with specific state-funded programmes. 'There is no new scheme on the anvil," Singh said. According to official data, Uttar Pradesh led the country by conducting plantations over 23.49 lakh hectares from 2020-21 to 2024-25, followed by Telangana with 15.50 lakh hectares and Gujarat with 11.38 lakh hectares. The other major contributors included Odisha (5.03 lakh hectares), Andhra Pradesh (5.86 lakh hectares), Rajasthan (3.78 lakh hectares) and Madhya Pradesh (4.05 lakh hectares). The total plantation area across all states and UTs stood at 93.77 lakh hectares during the period. Singh said the survival rate of the planted trees is 'dynamic" and depends on factors such as soil quality, climatic conditions, water availability, grazing, fire, pest attacks and post-plantation care. Regular assessments are carried out by the state forest departments, with corrective maintenance measures taken when necessary. A comparison of forest and tree cover between the India State of Forest Reports 2019 and 2023 shows an increase of 20,080.95 sq km in the country, he said. On whether any mandatory rule is being considered for tree plantation during building construction approvals, Singh said the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006, and its amendments already mandate tree plantation for certain categories of projects. The terms of reference for EIA study require a greenbelt and landscaping plan, while environmental clearances include binding conditions for greenbelt development in addition to compensatory planting for any trees removed, he said. The ministry, along with states and UTs, also encourages voluntary plantations and provides necessary support wherever applicable. The minister said tree plantation, including those carried out on special occasions, is monitored through a multi-tiered mechanism involving both state and Central agencies. States and UTs conduct physical verification and submit geo-tagged photographs and .kml files of the plantation sites to the ministry. Jogulamba Temple set to get facelift with Rs 383 cr funds
Hyderabad: Telangana government would be taking up a comprehensive development of Jogulamba temple at Alampur, as Rs 382.5 crore have been allocated for the planned development. Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha stressed on the need for the complete and planned development of the historic Jogulamba Temple at Alampur. She chaired a review meeting on the temple's master plan at the Secretariat along with key officials including Planning Commission Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy, Endowments Department Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar and others. During the meeting, Surekha made it clear that the state government was fully committed to the development of temples, especially the Jogulamba Shakti Peetham, located at the sacred confluence of the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. The principal deities at the Jogulamba temple are Jogulamba and Balabrahmeshwara. Goddess Jogulamba is considered the 5th Shakti Peeth among 18 Shakti peeths in the country. Here, Goddess Jogulamba is seen seated on a corpse with scorpion, frog, and lizard on the head. Jogulamba is an Avatar of fierce goddess that grants Siddhi in Yoga and hence called Jogulamba. This word is a changed form of 'Yogula Amma' in Telugu which means Mother of Yogis. The popular temple stands as a testimony to Chalukya art and culture. The Tungabhadra and Krishna are seen in a confluence near Alampur, and hence it is also known as Dakshina Kailasam. It is also said that Brahma had performed a great penance at today's Alampur for thousands of years, and he pleased Lord Siva who conferred the powers of creation for him. Hence, the deity is also called Brahmeswara and the goddess as Yogini or Jogulamba, a synonym for mother Parvathi. The Minister stated that the temple would be developed in three phases with a total budget of Rs 382.5 crore. The Minister instructed officials to prepare infrastructure that can handle a large influx of devotees, tourists, and visitors in the future. She reaffirmed that no compromise would be made when it comes to preserving and enhancing the spiritual, cultural, and architectural glory of this ancient temple.
