A BRACE from teenage forward Michael Noonan helped the league leaders ease to victory over basement club Cork City in Tallaght last night.
In their third game in seven days Shamrock Rovers' star-studded squad showed their strength in depth as they made it 11 unbeaten.

In a one-sided first half, Noonan's fifth and sixth league goals sandwiched either side of a Roberto Lopes bullet header had the Hoops cruising at the break.
Rory Gaffney put the game to bed just after the break, with Alex Nolan grabbing a consolation.
Still searching for his first win as City boss, Ger Nash made three changes to the side that lost at home to Bohs last week.

And it was the visitors who threatened first when Djenairo Daniels fired high and wide following some neat build-up. But with only six minutes on the clock, Noonan showed great feet cutting inside two defenders before reversing the ball under keeper Tein Troost.
To their credit the visitors continued to play some tidy
football
, with Kitt Nelson and Daniels finding good positions to shoot from distance, although Ed McGinty was not troubled by either effort.
Rovers doubled their lead shortly after Cathal O'Sullivan was penalised for a challenge on Trevor Clarke despite

Two minutes later, the hosts struck again to make it three after Clarke picked up the ball on the left and curled a wonderful ball around
the City
defence and into Noonan's path.

What's at stake as Shamrock Rovers bid for another UEFA prize money bonanza

Having banked over €7million in UEFA prize money last year on their historic league phase run, and being among the final 24 teams in the Conference League, Shamrock Rovers hope once again to be in contention when the big money is on the line. And that is definitely the case once you get to the league phase of the competition, where a minimum of €3.8million is on offer. After that, it's up to how you do results-wise and how far you go. Last year, the Hoops picked up three wins, two draws and just one defeat - in their final league phase game away to Chelsea. Those results brought in an extra €1.2million for the wins (€400,000 per win), and €266,000 for the draws (€133,000 per draw), while their 10th place finish in a 36-team table added an extra €700,000 to their coffers, and progress to the play-offs after the league phase was worth another €200,000. Finally, they received another healthy sum when UEFA distributed TV money, taking their earnings last season over the €7million mark. This time around, UEFA have earmarked just over €300million in prize money for the Conference League - and once again Rovers can add to their bank balance if they qualify for the league phase by picking up wins and draws. As was the case last year, a win is worth an additional €400,000 and a draw will see clubs bank €133,000. Looking beyond the league phase, and making the post-Christmas play-offs would bring in another €200,000 and going straight to the last-16 is worth €800,000. A place in the quarter-finals is worth €1.3million, it's an additional €2.5million for the semi-finals, and getting to the final is worth either €4million (runner-up) or €7million. In total, last year's Conference League winners Chelsea cleared around €21million in prize money. Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email .

What time and channel is Santa Clara v Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League?

Shamrock Rovers are 180 minutes away from a return to league phase football, a year after their historic run in the Europa Conference League. Stephen Bradley's men made it all the way to the post-Christmas play-off round - and they came agonisingly close to securing an automatic spot in the last-16. The Hoops finished 10th in the 36-team league phase, and missed out on a top-eight finish on goal-difference, and they banked over €7million in UEFA prize money. Can they do that all over again? After seeing off St Joseph's of Gibraltar 4-0 on aggregate and then Kosovan side Ballkani 4-1 over two legs, they now face the team that finished fifth in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The only teams that finished ahead of Santa Clara were Braga, Porto, Benfica and champions Sporting. But that doesn't tell the full story about the club that is based in the Azores, halfway across the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, it's been an emotional week for Rovers boss Stephen Bradley, whose son Josh's three-year battle with leukaemia came to a triumphant end when he rang the bell in Crumlin Children's Hospital on Tuesday. Here's all you need to know about Rovers' game on Sao Miguel, the biggest of the Azores islands: Where is the game being played? The 12,500 Estadio de Sao Miguel, a bowl-shaped ground high up in the hills outside Ponta Delgada, is the stage for Thursday's clash. Click this link or scan the QR code to receive the latest League of Ireland news and top stories from the Irish Mirror. If you don't like our community, you can check out any time you like. If you're curious, you can read our Privacy Notice . What time is kick-off? The travelling Shamrock Rovers fans - around 150 are expected, including the 125 that made the club charter - should be in their seats for 7pm. For those watching from home, an hour ahead of the Azores, kick-off is 8pm Irish time. Is the game on TV? No, RTE are busy showing live coverage of Shelbourne's bid for league phase football, when they host Linfield. Can I stream the game live? Yes, Shamrock Rovers announced this week that the club secured streaming rights, with LOITV hosting the game as a PPV event for €10. Betting odds Santa Clara are favourites to win the first-leg, at odds of around 8/15, while some bookies are offering as much as 13/2 for a Shamrock Rovers win. A draw is 13/5. Team news Shamrock Rovers' new midfielder Connor Malley hurt his knee late in last week's 4-0 second-leg win over Ballkani, so he misses out. Jack Byrne once again has not been included in the squad, as the fallout from a row with manager Stephen Bradley shows no sign of letting up. Other than that, the Hoops are at full strength. Rovers boss Stephen Bradley is focused on his side's bid for progress in Europe, but he would love to see two Irish clubs competing in the league phase, with Shelbourne also in play-off action. 'Obviously I am (in a Rovers mindset), but the bigger picture is, I'd love to see two Irish teams in the group stages,' he said on the eve of the Santa Clara game. 'We were saying that the aim is to keep pushing and make the league better on and off the pitch. I think we've made great strides in that, I think we all agree. 'Everyone's played their part in that, on and off the pitch. 'But you think, where's the next step? For us on the pitch as teams, can we go and get two teams in group stages?' As for wing-back Danny Grant, he expects a tough shift on a pitch that he says is 15 yards longer than Rovers' Tallaght Stadium surface. 'It's probably one of the toughest games that I'll have, I'd say, especially looking at the pitch. It looks massive,' he said ahead of Wednesday night's training. I'm GAA star who worked with Ger Brennan in his first inter-county job – he was destined to be Dublin football manager

'BIG COUP' I'm GAA star who worked with Ger Brennan in his first inter-county job – he was destined to be Dublin football manager AS Dublin look to Ger Brennan to be their messiah, the new Sky Blues boss has already shown that God is in the details. Brennan's first inter-county role was with Carlow, where he served as coach following Niall Carew's appointment as manager in 2020. 2 Ger Brennan's first inter-county job was as a coach with Carlow Credit: Matt Browne/Sportsfile 2 Darragh Foley has fond memories of that time Credit: Matt Browne/Sportsfile Advertisement And Barrowsiders stalwart Darragh Foley has fond memories of working with the man who recently succeeded Dessie Farrell as Dubs gaffer. Foley told SunSport: 'It was very enjoyable with Ger, even though it was only for a year. 'You could tell by the standards he set and the way he went about things that he was always destined for big jobs. 'Ger would never have said it but I'd imagine the Dublin gig is one he had his eyes on from a long time out. He's earned that job and I think he'll be a big success. Advertisement 'He's a fella who does well in anything he turns his hand to.' Brennan was persuaded to get involved with Carlow by Carew, who first encountered the former Dublin defender when he played under the Kildare native at Maynooth University. Foley continued: 'It was a big coup from Niall to get someone like Ger in as a coach. 'You could tell it was something he was really buying into and he was always ultra- professional. He was just very detail-oriented. Advertisement 'Going into every session, you knew what it was going to entail before you got there. 'You were sent the details of it that day and that kind of thing is great for players when you know exactly what you're going to be facing. Henry Shefflin among GAA stars at Oasis gigs where Man City tradition made its Croke Park debut 'That was my first experience of that, where you got that information beforehand. 'He's also hungry to be successful. He's a winner, it's in his character and that rubs off on lads too. I'm delighted he got a big job and I'd say he'll do very well.' Carlow's all-time top scorer first crossed paths with Brennan — who had just won the first of his two All-Ireland SFC medals — in a win for Dublin in the 2012 O'Byrne Cup. Advertisement And Foley, 34, recalled: 'We were actually marking each other, which was an experience in itself! 'Ger was an unbelievable footballer but he was tough as nails as well. To be coached by him then later on in my career was great. 'He was really good at dealing with players especially. He'd always touch base with you during the week just to make sure everything was good. 'Even since Ger stepped away, any time we got a good result with Carlow or if there were personal things, he'd always drop you a text. 'Ger is so busy in his own life but those little touches are a testament to the man he is.' Advertisement 'INTERESTING' Brennan's stock in management rose this summer when he led Louth to a first Leinster SFC title 68 years. But bringing glory to Dublin is his next assignment. Foley added: 'Ger comes from St Vincent's, which is one of the traditionally strongest clubs in Dublin. 'Their ethos is very much about letting the ball do the work and that would have been his message to us in Carlow as well. 'Louth were more of a counter-attacking team but that just shows his strength. He's able to adapt to the players available to him. Advertisement 'I'm sure for Ger, the backroom team he puts together with Dublin and the players he has, their aim will be to get back and win All-Irelands. 'There have probably been at least four or five teams in that mix over the last couple of years. 'It will make for a very interesting 2026, to see how it plays out.'
