advertisementThe directive defines prime time as shows scheduled between 3 pm and 9 pm. This means every screen, regardless of its programming schedule, must allocate one prime time slot daily to a Bengali-language film.
Key highlights of the order:At least one Bengali film show per day in every cinema hall and multiplex across the state.A total of 365 prime time screenings (between 3 pm and 9 pm) to be held throughout the year, ensuring Bengali cinema is accessible to audiences year-round.Amendments to the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation of Public Exhibitions) Rules, 1956 will be made in due course to incorporate this mandate. The order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further instructions are issued. The move is aimed at promoting regional cinema and ensuring greater visibility for Bengali films in an era dominated by Hindi, South and international releases. The state government has previously introduced incentives for Bengali film production, but this is the first time such a strict exhibition requirement has been implemented. However, this might raise concerns over scheduling flexibility among theatre owners.- EndsTune InYou May Also Like
