I thought maybe it was like a terror attack,' said Carter, who delivers customer orders from Walmart. 'And then it was fear, disbelief, shock. And that was, it was just amazing. And it all happened fast. Like he was totally subdued on the ground by the time police arrived.' Article content Article content Emergency vehicles and uniformed first responders gathered in the parking lot of the shopping center that houses several other retail stores. Authorities also were seen interviewing employees, still wearing blue uniform vests and name tags, nearby as the response gave way to an investigation. Article content Article content Tiffany DeFell, 36, who lives in Honor, about 25 miles (40 kilometres) from Traverse City, said she was in the store's parking lot when she saw chaos erupt around her. It's not what you expect to see where you're living.' Article content Munson Healthcare said via social media that 11 people were being treated at the region's largest hospital in northern Michigan. Spokesperson Megan Brown said all were stabbing victims. As of Sunday morning, Brown said, four of the victims were in serious condition, and seven were in fair condition. 'We've have seen encouraging signs of recovery among our patients,' Brown said. Article content Sheriff Michael Shea said the weapon involved appeared to be a folding-style knife. Shea said the suspect is believed to be a Michigan resident but declined to share further details. Michigan State Police had said earlier in the day that the suspect was in authorities' custody.

York police are searching for 32-year-old Ryan Vandenakker, of Newmarket, who is convicted of three counts of sexual assault involving separate victims. Police say they've located a man from Newmarket who had gone missing after being convicted of multiple sexual assaults. In a release on Sunday, investigators with York police say 32-year-old Ryan Vandenakker was convicted of three counts of sexual assault involving separate victims. The offences occurred between 2018 and 2021, according to police. They say Vandenakker was reported missing on July 24 after failing to appear at the Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket for his sentencing. Despite his absence, police say Vandenakker was sentenced to seven years in prison. Police had issued a warrant of committal, along with a warrant in the first for his arrest. They say Vandenakker was found on Sunday in Orangeville. He's now facing additional charges of fail to appear and fail to comply with a release order.

Grande Prairie residents charged after RCMP seize drugs, weapons, contraband cigarettes
Two people have been charged after Grande Prairie RCMP executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of drugs, weapons and contraband cigarettes from a residence. On July 17, officers executed the warrant at a duplex in Scenic Ridge in Grande Prairie, where they seized 900 grams of suspected cocaine, 100 grams of suspected mushrooms, 11 firearms (including three prohibited firearms that were loaded), over 15,000 rounds of ammunition, four prohibited devices, 16,000 contraband cigarettes and materials consistent with drug trafficking. A 50 year old man and a 36 year old woman, both residents of Grande Prairie face a total of 17 charges including two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, careless use or storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and fraud. Following a bail hearing, both were released on conditions. They're scheduled to appear in court in Grande Prairie on July 28. 'The combination of drugs and firearms is a bad mix for any community," said Cst. Satbir Sall in a media release. 'We are thankful that as a result of this investigation, those drugs are firearms are no longer on the streets of Grande Prairie. 'Grande Prairie RCMP remains fully committed in building safer communities by working in partnership with our community, as well as through investigative and enforcement efforts, to achieve this goal.'
