Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' Director to Helm Remake of 'The Bodyguard': Report
The director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Sam Wrench, reportedly has his eyes on another pop star project.
The 34-year-old Grammy-nominated and Emmy award-winning director, who gave Swifties the 2023 concert tour documentary, will be working with Warner Bros. to remake 1992's The Bodyguard, Deadline reported on Friday, April 11. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety also reported the news.
Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairman and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy first shared the news with Deadline.
In The Bodyguard, former secret service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) was tasked with keeping best-selling pop star Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston) safe from a dangerous stalker. Eventually, Frank and Rachel developed a romantic interest in one another.

The original film went on to earn $411 million worldwide at the box office. It was directed by Mick Jackson and written by Lawrence Kasdan.
Much of The Bodyguard's success was due to its best-selling soundtrack, which featured Houston's recording of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" and other songs by the late R&B star. Two songs, "I Have Nothing" and "Run to You," were nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar.
Earlier this year, Costner paid tribute to his costar in an Instagram post marking his 70th birthday.
'This photo reminds me of how lucky I am to be getting another birthday," he wrote on a behind-the-scenes photo of them together when The Bodyguard was being filmed. 'We lost such a light when we lost Whitney.'
The 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)' singer died in 2012 at age 48.
Casting has not yet been revealed for the remake, but Deadline reported that Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams is writing the script.
Wrench's work has proved successful, with Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) becoming the most-watched music film on Disney+ of all time when it arrived on the streaming service in March 2024.
The documentary chronicling the pop star's most recent tour contains four additional main show songs not shown in theaters. There is also an acoustic collection after the credits featuring previously unseen performances of "Death by a Thousand Cuts," "I Can See You," "Maroon" and "You Are in Love."
Welch's mega-hit with the 'Shake It Off' singer had the highest-grossing opening of a concert film in history, making it one of the highest-earning concert films of all time — second only to Michael Jackson's 2009 documentary This Is It.

At this point, Mindy Kaling is an undeniable multihyphenate. From Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls to Velma and Running Point, it honestly feels like we've gotten a show that she's created or written every time we switch on our TVs. Mindy's been so ever-present behind the scenes that it's honestly been easy to forget that we were all introduced to her as an actor — especially in the classic NBC TV show The Office (which, to be clear, she also wrote for). These days, however, Mindy isn't in front of the camera all that often. She's done some voice work on Velma and Monsters at Work, and she's made the occasional appearance on The Morning Show, but that's about it. During a recent public appearance (via The Hollywood Reporter), Mindy addressed her recent absence as an actor — especially when it came to making a cameo on Never Have I Ever, which she ultimately decided not to do. 'A show literally about an Indian American family in Southern California, and if I wasn't on that—what's wrong with me?' she joked. 'I think there is a part of me that feels a little superstitious,' she continued. 'I'm like, these seem to have gone well and I'm not in them so maybe I'll wait.' Mindy also admitted that she does "miss" acting, and that she "would like to write or co-create a show for me to act in soon" — particularly because doing so would be 'unbelievably fun and it's so efficient.' 'I would love to do that again,' she said. 'That's the thing that maybe in the next couple years, when I launch a couple other things that are earlier in the pipeline, that would be something that would be fun to do again.' We'll see what happens!
